Kim Sae Ron's posthumous film 'Everyday, We' confirmed to premiere in 2026
Super Junior member Sung Min on The Return of Superman why he became less active in the industry after getting married.
Super Junior's Sung Min and his family, including his son Do Yoon, appeared on the special Chuseok broadcast of The Return of Superman on October 7. On the program, Sung Min introduced his family, shared updates on his life, and discussed his ten-year career hiatus.
Sung Min recalled the time he announced his sudden marriage in 2014. He shared, "Being the first idol to get married, I was concerned about fan reactions and was unsure how to announce it. However, news and rumors spread before I could address them. The negative comments made me feel like everyone was against me, causing me to stay home. I was scared of losing my career, as singing was the only profession I knew."
He also revealed he chose marriage to protect his wife, Kim Sa Eun, a decision that ultimately caused his long career hiatus. He expressed guilt over the situation, as his wife became the family's main breadwinner.
The birth of his son, Do Yoon, offered Sung Min new hope after a 10-year career break. Though his initial attempts to succeed as a trot singer failed in competitions, his determination led him to spend four years diligently learning the genre from composer Lee Ho Seop.
On the program, Sung Min was featured attending trot lessons and rehearsing for an upcoming show. He also showcased his special connection with his son by spending time with him and preparing his food.
Sung Min concluded and stated, "Even as a 20-year veteran, I am embarking on a new journey as a rookie trot singer. I hope people will not hate me too much and will show me love and support."

In 2014, Sung Min faced fan backlash after announcing his marriage to musical actress Kim Sa Eun. He began his military service in 2015 and has not participated in official Super Junior activities since, though he never formally left the group. This year, he ended his 20-year relationship with SM Entertainment.
Meanwhile, Sung Min temporarily reunited with the Super Junior group members in 2024 when they all attended Kim Ryeo Wook's wedding.
Best wishes for your new chapter, Sung Min!
