Topbrand Union has released this ranking for seven consecutive years. Its evaluation criteria include industry influence, social influence, sense of social responsibility, public image, and public attention, based on a sample of more than 5,000 brand figures from various fields.
It is not based on fan votes or traffic data, but on a comprehensive brand value assessment system. This ranking is not distinguished by age or profession.
Xiao Zhan was placed among many well-known figures, including Li Ning (46th) and Jay Chou (79th), on a list that mainly includes prominent business leaders. He was also among the highest-ranked entertainers on the list.
The Top 500 China Brand Figures is an annual ranking released by Topbrand Union. With the theme "Who has brought respect to China", the ranking is announced each year at the China Brand Figures Annual Conference.
It is an academic, public-interest research ranking that aims to objectively reflect the current status of Chinese brand figures, including those from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan.
The selection process is based on big data concerning individuals recognized by various government ministries and commissions as advanced individuals, as well as those who made outstanding contributions to major national events during the year. The sample included more than 5,000 influential brand figures. Their "Brand Figure Index" was then assessed comprehensively based on factors such as industry influence, social impact, sense of social responsibility, public image, and public attention. The ranking then included the top 500 brand figures.
The selection process sets a general eligibility criterion of having "a certain degree of influence or a leading role within one's industry," and also includes weighted criteria such as "making outstanding contributions to public welfare and charitable causes."
The ranking has been released annually since 2019. In previous editions, Ren Zhengfei (CEO of Huawei) has topped the ranking multiple times, while other businesspeople, including Dong Mingzhu (President of Gree Electric), Lei Jun (CEO of Xiaomi), and Wang Chuanfu (CEO of BYD Company), have also frequently ranked near the top.
