Being heavily triggered by Lady Yulou’s character? 🤔 Let’s break it down!

We all have that one character who gets under our skin, and for many, it’s Lady Yulou. But why? Why do certain characters provoke such a strong reaction?

Here’s an interesting way to look at it—there are three reasons why we might dislike someone, and I think it applies perfectly to Lady Yulou:

1️⃣ They do things you would never dare to do.
For example, her manipulative schemes and devious plans might be too much for some to stomach because it's so far from their own moral compass.

2️⃣ They do things you used to do, but don’t anymore.
Maybe Lady Yulou reminds you of a time when you were a little more ruthless or scheming, and seeing that in her triggers old memories of behavior you’ve left behind.

3️⃣ They do things you also do, but you feel ashamed of.
This one might hit hard. Maybe you see yourself in her manipulation, but you don’t want to admit it. That feeling of shame can create an intense dislike because it forces you to confront parts of yourself that are hard to face.

So, which one are you? Why does Lady Yulou’s character get under your skin?  🧠💭

Madam Yulou is going to lose her nose in Episode28!

I really don’t think it goes that deep. As viewers we root for the leads and want them to be happy. She tries to manipulate them and lies to them for her own ends so naturally we hate her the same way we would hate anyone who treats the people we like poorly. Plus she’s really not pretty enough to be such a bitch. It’s not like Charlize Theron in Snow White where yes she’s evil but at the same time I can’t help but marvel at how stunning she is.

Her lies have caused Grandma Wei a deep distress and Wie Yan leaving for Bianzhou so Wei Shao is definitely furious.

Wei Shao has an explosive temper!

I guess #1 would be the closest if I really had to choose, but "you would never dare to do" implies I'm even tempted. Personally, I think she just has "empress syndrome." Her whole goal in life was to become empress and have that power. She may have loved her husband, but she seemed more disappointed that he didn't agree to take in the foster child, like she wanted so that the line of succession would be controlled by her.

She placed a Huadian on herself and made it in seem like it meant she was somehow god-blessed, manipulating so many people by this alone.

She was a master manipulator, making Chuyu think it was her idea to ruin the wheat seeds when it was Lady Yulou and her cousin whispering in her ear all along. Then, convincing Lady Zhu to take the blame was yet genius level deception, knowing the investigation will end there.

#1

Because she targets other women.

Patriarchy survives to this day,  because women don't stand in solidarity with one another.

Yes, "master manipulator" and "genius level deception" are a quite accurate descriptions :D

Food for thoughts...

I thought her punishment was brutal.

Wei Shao certainly knew how to cancel this woman's ambition.  His brother really loved this woman but the Wei State was lucky not to have this woman as their Duchess.

Yes, corporal punishment is always brutal. Not only did it fail to quash her ambitions, but it also fueled her hatred even more.

In a way, Lady YuLou is also a victim of circumstances. We are fed bits and pieces of information of her life and experiences that shaped her the way she is now. We know that her family was the one who created the lie about her huadian birthmark and forced her to live a lie, but she also clearly had mutual love with Wei Bao (BoGong). When Wei Bao died, her family immediately changed her marriage partner to Chen Xiang. Although Chen Xiang treated her well, she didn't love him, and we can see she still had feelings for Wei Bao after all these years. Chen Pang disliked her, forcing her to scheme and manipulate in order to protect herself and survive, since she cannot count on her maiden family in this regard.

Years of scheming eventually made her ruthless, very different from the girl Wei Bao loved. Everything she did to Wei Shao and Xiao Qiao was wrong, and the only reason she kept her life is because of Wei Shao's promise to Wei Bao.  If Wei Bao had survived and she had married him, I doubt she would've became as twisted as she is now, because Wei Bao's straight morals and love will keep her grounded. Unfortunately, things are the way it is and she lost her path, falling to the point of no return.

Victim mentality so bad that when her fiancé and husband loved her, still said she's

,she's unlucky. The type that don't appreciate anything as sincerity and gratitude are lacking.

She should have remained unmarried and got involved in business to be financially independent of her family.  Instead, she chose power using her fake mu dan tattoo.

She should have remained in the Wei State and lived quietly until her old age knowing that Wei Shao will forever take care of her.

Now, she has lost her nose tip and beauty.  Her ending was pitiful in the novel.

She can't let go of grudges unlike ML. A small and closed heart .God help those who help themselves. She don't help herself for gratitude is not in her. Don't appreciate that her life was spared. From her my takeaway is gratitude in every little  things everyday good or bad, to be joyful  for nothing is permanent !
