My club. He was amazing in the Battle in Pingrong scene. My man deserves his flowers for real. 😩

Is anyone else confused on why people hate CGH and simp for Nan Heng. Like honestly, what did CGH do that was wrong. For example, his suspicions on LSL is justified considering what NH is searching for, Duan Dao Zhi Fa, is a family secret and important to national security. He's also not going to suddenly believe SYM that there will be a fire accident out of the blue. Other than that, he has been nothing but loving and caring for SYM. He's understandably confused and upset when the girl he's loved for 18 years, exchanged thousands of letters with, and promised to wait for him ghosts him for a guy that could be linked to his mortal enemy and suspicious of trying to steal his family secrets. Honestly, if I were him, I'd already crash out.

It's ironic how everyone is pressed at him for being reluctant on SYM's sudden refusal to reject his love but are perfectly fine with: NH trying to kill her multiple times, using her to steal CGH's family secrets, spreading false rumors about SYM's relationship with him, slandering CGH's reputation, finding excuses to ruin or kill CGH solely for political gain, breaking up SYM's marriage to force her to marry him, threatening her with LSL, and continuously lying about his dual identities to keep using SYM. Don't forget the future major events in which he cheats on SYM with SYT, kills the emperor (ok i guess), NR, and CGH, shoots at SYM again and holds her hostage. NH fans will try to cope and say the script has changed or SGH will disguise himself as LSL but it's already been proven that no matter what, the characters, dialogue, and actions of major events never change, just different process in how they reach their respective results.

Worst thing CGH did was get heated at NH for forcefully embracing his fiance and shot an arrow at him which, in my opinion, feels reasonable during that circumstance. Another thing to note, when choosing who to get whipped in place of SYM's dad and give up their military power, CGH was going to stand up first but NR stopped him for plot convenience to allow NH to shine. Apparently NH is upset at CGH for abandoning him earlier but cmon bro, at the time, he's literally 7 or smth LMAO, what do you want him to do?

NH is a massive red flag, not just because of her manipulative, toxic personality but also because he has trash parents including a trash abusive dad (no explanation needed) and a sly mom who forced SYM without her consent to sleep with NH, prime example to use "no" means "no". Meanwhile, CGH is a green forest with his only flaw of not being the main character.

Tbh at this point I'm not entirely sure where ADwaD screenwriter decided to go with our general story (for me after ep 17). Imo it's definitely start new arc for him. But how exactly he will be written in this story.. I definitely hope he start develop as his own person in the opposite direction from original script. But who knows. Atm this story more about mains romance and not so much about story world building.

I'm fast-forwarding this drama now. I have run out of patience for this romance plot :-(

 Playset9656:

Yes! His first arc centered on his long-standing romance with the FL—hope, heartbreak, and holding onto what they had before the script swallowed them. Now, we seem to be entering a second arc: betrayal, disillusionment, and maybe the start of him questioning the system he once served so loyally. That flashback to his father felt like a turning point.

Yes, the turning point was where he recalled what his father had said.

He does!

@mutt

I'm confused. When I looked at all this from Chu's perspective, the female lead's behavior was suspicious, cruel, inconsistent, and insincerity. However, Chu didn't hold a grudge against her at all. He merely believed that his girl had been deceived and used by Nan Heng/Li Shiliu, and tried every possible way to protect her. He didn't even say a word of accusation to her. This was his entire reaction to the sudden betrayal of his fiancee with whom he had been in love with for eighteen years. If this isn't true love, then what is true love? What else should he do to be considered a good person? Help those two people prepare for their wedding?

I think the reason why many viewers hate him is that he is not as powerful as the male lead but wants to marry the female lead (oh what a heinous crime). But come on, he and Song got engaged eighteen years ago and have been deeply in love ever since. Besides, when he returned to the capital, the female lead clearly told him she wanted to marry him. So why can't he want to marry her? Could it be that the female lead herself initially wanted to use her marriage with him to get rid of Nan Heng, but later suddenly began to believe in love above all else and went back on her word, causing all this? What did he do wrong??

With the latest story developments I decided put this drama on hold for now. Tbh It seems scriptwriter makes the same mistake as in 'Story of Kunning palace' again. Fanservice can be very useful in storytelling, but it can't be main tool imo. And I really don't want to see CGH transformation to main villain just so scriptwriter could patch this story flow up. So I wait for ep 40 and than decide whether I want to see it all or not. But I'm really glad that CGH have his own discussion here. Imo he absolutely deserves it. Very interesting and well-played character. Hope to see Wang You Shuo in new project soon.

That's my plan too. I will keep an eye on Wang Youshuo's subsequent works. I heard that the "The Days of Seclusion and Love" he was currently filming has been put on hold due to financial issues. Poor boy...

I feel so bad for him when the ML burned the book which is his father only belonging left for him, even prevent him to retrieve it until it was completely burned to ashes, the despair look in his eyes.

It's very frustrating for me to be behind on episodes because I'm watching on Viki.  Especially given the bashing has started on the comment board, and I'm not sure if it is warranted or not.  lol

Plus I'm reading and scrolling to avoid spoilers, here and there.

Not that I care.  I love watching WYS, and I already suspected he might not be as spotless as he was portrayed early on.

I never had high hopes for that, and thought he would be wasted there.

The first thing I saw WYS in was Song of the Moon, and he was an awesome second lead there.  Plus, Rile Wang was his brother who caused him no end of grief, but they were great there together, and appeared to have fun on the set too.  The bad news is that the rest of Song of the Moon was a mess.  They filmed two endings and just dropped them as the last two episodes with no explanation.  I was so confused and then mad.  lol

I've watched a few other dramas where WYS was the lead, but they were Mango costume dramas, and not high production.

Someone said Young Blood was good, though it's an ensemble drama.

Tbh I had hopes for a better plot development here. I hoped that ADwaD  would abandon classic clichés of this genre. After all they started with obvious parody of them. But no. Drama for now became exactly what they laughed at. Although maybe I'm wrong and the ending will surprise me in a good way.

WYS imo really talented and versatil actor. I've seen him in several projects, loved him in Towards the Truth - imo very underrated drama with great potential. But I heard that eng sub for this one done poorly unfortunately so.

I really don't expect Chinese costume dramas to abandon their cliches and tropes.  I just hope they are executed well.  ;p

Yes, the English subs on iQiyi for Towards the Truth are AI or something.  I only watched the first episodes of that.  I'm definitely going to finish it when I resub.  But I find WYS very watchable, and he hooks me emotionally most the time, even when the production isn't good.  His eye acting is top notch.  But I agree, he is underrated and has potential.  I keep hoping he'll get that break out role.

I get why people are angry with Chu Gui Gong —his actions are painful to watch. But I wonder if we’re overlooking how much he’s unraveling emotionally. His fixation on Nan Heng seems less like hatred and more like fear or unresolved pain. He knows he’s crossing a line, and maybe that’s the tragedy—he sees it, but can’t stop himself. I don’t see him as vile, just lost.

I can't say for everyone, but I'm not angry with his character development. Moreover, his behavior imo is easily explained - for him this is definitely darkest timline. Again and again he loses everything that was dear to him. His rage understandable. Not excusable but understandable. I just hope he will not lose himself and his life in the end for plot convenience.

I def kinda disappointed with this story development. I was hoping our heroes unite and together will fight this scripted world rules. Investigate together who  behind emperor wife murder and all that. But who knows, maybe there is still hope for this to happen. Or not)

So from now on I'l wait all eps and binge ADwaD later.
