Does anyone know if My Bossy Sweet Wife (2024) is an RR title? It doesn't have a synopsis (although someone posted a short one in the comments) or tags that indicate it might be except for the older woman/younger man one. The poster looks RR, though. Has anyone watched it?
I haven't watched it yet and the trailer didn't really help me much with picking up vibes (to me it's giving trad or egal with trad leaning). All I can say is that the lead actress tends to go more for egal projects

I remember watching this movie on Netflix in 2018 because of the premise, and waiting to feel something, but I never did and ended up dropping it 😭 The Other Half of Me and You did it better even though I haven't finished it yet.

I don't think any of these 'fixing the misogynist' tropes will ever beat TOHoMaY for me. I think it also helps that he wasn't an irredeemable chauvinistic misogynistic POS to begin with (like he was still not a good person, but he was mostly a playboy?), so his redemption arc and eventual romance actually felt easier to root for. Save for the matriarchy trope, these two movies didn't seem all that appealing to me. But I'll still prolly check out at least one of them, cuz kinda... how can I not? XD
And I had this whole bit written about the MLs and specifically the intentional casting choices for these movies that I omitted from my review of Better Man, but I also think plays a part in rubbing me the wrong way. Let me just say that the women are still the beautiful, sexy one and the men are.... not. 😭

I'm skimming through the available episodes rn (gonna go back and watch more carefully for the plot and its clues) and there is definitely some good RR stuff here at least so far! She's very domineering and aggressive at first and then a little ways in, she's also protective of ML, flustering him in some cute ways 🤭 Definitely think I'll keep watching, it seems fun :)

I also skimmed it and the first ep alone is already giving me a lot of things I love to see!! FL that actually has aura (the actress is so good), a neck grab, kidnapping, captivity?! I'M SO IN!!! I'll clear my CW list a bit first before diving in, but it's exciting!

Girl, I wasn’t gonna say anything, but as usual you did for me. How’re you gonna make a matriarchy movie with no eye candy for women?? The eye candy is still for the men LOL. (ML from TOHoMaY was adorable though. I just couldn’t stand the costume designer because their idea of men dressing slutty was…shorts. Unflattering shorts with collared shirts and all sorts of tops that didn’t make sense. They needed the person in charge of XLOV’s wardrobe or at least someone similar. Hell, hire ME. I swear those outfits would’ve been cute and slutty as hell. I can do makeup on men so well their fathers will be disappointed LOL).

There's definitely a difference, and I think the commentary the social commentary matriarchies are trying to make would hit harder if they applied the same beauty standards actresses usually have to deal with to the actors they cast. Or if they want to cast an actor who doesn't fit those standards, make it something he agonizes over in the drama. Make him obsessive about skin care and cosmetics, struggle with an ED, and even consider plastic surgery. That's what most women battle in real life. But nope. Just put him in an apron while he continues to use a 5-in-1 body wash.
Meanwhile, in non-matriachy dramas:
The Great Gwen
Context: FL was used to being the only one who put any kind of effort into her appearance in her previous relationship and laments that it's "what women do" while it's socially acceptable for men to be relatively unkempt. She takes her new boyfriend to an important work event, and she's surprised when he revealed that it took him hours to do his hair and choose the right suit because he wanted to look good for her, and not embarrass her in front of her colleagues. FL wasn't used to this at all since her ex showed up to her last work event looking homeless while she was in a gown. So she boldly admits to her current boyfriend that she likes the fact that he wants to look good for her (which is fair). The entire scene was awesome social commentary about what women usually have to worry about, and what it looks like reciprocated.
Now that I think about it, this drama's the closest I've gotten to a modern reverse harem :-o Girlie had three suitors, and she never picked one...

If you were the costume designer for TOHoMaY, what kind of outfits would you put the ML and other male characters in? We're talking cute, stylish, slutty (as much as you can get away with) outfits that fit the tone of the drama that would still allow it to air. Spam me with some pictures/a vision board and I'll do the same 😊
