I get impatient sometimes because my viewing list is so long - also I have a bad habit of starting a new drama at the drop of a hat, so then I look up and I'm in the middle of 10 different shows, oops. 😅

No because I'm the exact same... I only discovered asian dramas in 2022 and it always feels like I'm trying to catch up with the  veteran watchers xD It doesn't help that I have awful adhd AND I'm a mood watcher. But oh well, I try not to look at my 700+ ptw list and just take it one drama at a time :)

For this + RR, I'd recommend: Dong Lan Xue (antihero couple, vvv RR) & The Legend of Zhuohua (spoiler) Well-written female villain and her ride-or-die BF

I'll do you one better, I have a list (because of course I do) xD Non-comedy RR (I'm so sad I could only find 17 titles out of like the 120 that I watched... like, cmon T_T The ones that were more serious still joked a lot about the RR aspect so like bruv)

Hilariously enough some of my favourite titles are in this list. 

Secrets of the Shadow Sect, Zhang Gong Zhu Zai Shang, and Dong Lan Xue are very solid mini watches with thorough RR. Secret of Three Kingdoms is my favourite but it's also historical RR so there'll still be traditional elements as well (heavy on the politics but romance still played a big part).

Yuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuupppp, it's actually surprisingly hard to find RR in this trope... My disappointment with reverse harem stories never quite ended. I now avoid them as much as harem stories T_T

I don't know if I've heard this phrase before, but does it mean you need the EXACT RIGHT drama for the mood that you're in right now? Because oh BOY, is that me. Another big problem for me is that I'll anxiety-pause at tense moments, and then maybe go find something else to watch to calm down, except basically all shows have SOME tense moments, so the next thing you know I have like twelve shows that are all paused directly at the most fraught/embarrassing/scary point. 🤦‍♀️

But thank you VERY much for the non-comedy list and specific recs! I had seen your main RR list but not that one. Is it weird that even though I've just complained so much about not finishing shows and having too much to watch...I still get so excited to add new stuff? I even have a big spreadsheet because MDL's watchlist was inadequate for my indexing needs, lol

I will just double down on The Glory, I suppose - although, as you probably already know, the romance is just a teeny tiny piece of the show, it's mostly revenge stuff (which is also great, though really harrowing and many TWs). I also got recced Perfect Marriage Revenge when talking about The Glory, and I've been watching that and liking it, and it does have some RR elements - kind of a sworn loyalty/service thing from him to her - BUT I found specifically the sex scene really frustrating from both an RR and a consent perspective, and I had to take a break for a while after that. I guess I could also mention Meet Yourself, for a serious high-quality romance drama with a het dynamic that I actually liked? but it's not super RR, it's just like, what if he really respected her and listened to her even when she called him out on being overbearing, and otherwise it's just a really fantastic show. Oh also, I was curious about Love Scout so I asked in the comments if the romance itself had role reversal elements, as well as just their regular lives, and someone replied and said it does, which was very nice to hear!

Yes, it really reminded me of "Zhang Gong Zhu Zai Shang", but the execution is not as good.  This is where I see the value of a 2 mn drama in comparison to other drama with more budget but poorly executed. 

However I was happy to watch a story like this one. The slave was cute. If "Revenge of Royal Princess"  had more budget, It would feature better stunts, camera work. This would make a huge difference. That being said, it hooked me and I wanted to know the rest of the story. So that's good.
