After completing I'm watching Against the Current and Spring of the Blade, I decided on Moonlit Reunion as my next watch. Although I'm enjoying each episode, I'm finding the pace slower than expected. I'm thinking of adding The Road to Splendor to my already-long CW list. Has anyone seen it and would recommend it?
I would absolutely recommend The Road to Splendor. It's in my top 5 c-dramas of this year.
Awesome!

I would absolutely recommend it! if you finished SoTB, you are a hero!
I've watched 5 episodes of The Lament of Autumn. I had time to check out a few points; the title had the word "lament," that means it's likely will have bad ending, the novel synopsis told about a man who got everything but felt the emptiness of having the one he love gone forever. So unless there's a big change, I expect it to have bad ending.
Spoiler:
The romance part was pretty cliche for a republican drama or should I said generic; it has enemies to lovers troupe, the damsel in distress met a rich powerful young master who's a fake playboy (I can't imagine Cheng Lei as a playboy seriously, it's not suitable with his public image) but secretly a capable military man, the female lead had a decent studious fiancee who's studying abroad (in Japan? Kinda miss it), the female lead was set-up by the male lead to work for him to reach his goal but otw he fell for female lead because she's strong, kind, smart, different (fresh meat) and compassionate which remind him of his big brother (likely Mingxuan).
(I could mention/spell wrong name so iirc, cmiiw) From political plot, there's two sides fighting for an important position in the government; incumbent prime minister Rui whose image currently bad and third master Cheng. ML and his father supported the third master Cheng. His father tried to ally with Chu because he got a(n empty) promise of a place in Cheng's new cabinet. ML was a master of strategy so he prevent his father to ally with Chu and ally with Yang and also got a promise from Tao to be in neutral when Yu (ML's family) and Mu (Tao's previous ally) in fight by giving Tao many benefit regarding business and profit also promising to not hurting Tao dapughter who like ML very much. And he also tried to take over his father's position.
Suspicious people: ML's third brother in-law and ML's father's favorite concubine seemed suspicious and may have from the same side (spies). ML's third older sister was a typical young mistress who's spoiled and treated her husband like a doormat and may have crush towards a plant shop owner/herbologist? which could also be a suspicious people. I don't believe in coincidence though that coincidence was created by that spoiled third sister.
I hope it won't go downhill, but I now keep my expectation low since the plot was pretty average and the direction of the drama seemed to balance the romance part and the political part. How I wish it leaned more towards one of the two.
Where the Mask Ends has started airing yesterday. It's very theatrical like a stage play. So many interesting Chinese drama airing these days, I feel like I can't catch up but I'll do my best. Just completed a modern office drama yesterday and still watching Cheng Lei's republican drama, one modern law drama and adding Where the Mask Ends to watch them all daily.
Tian Xi Wei was on dual role as a noblewoman and a poor woman transporting human waste. Because ML was dying after being stabbed with poisonous weapon on the battlefield, FL (the noblewoman) as his fiancee (that he hate because of previous incident involving a royal tutor's granddaughter) was pressured into marrying him to bring good luck. Unwilling to marry a comatose man, she asked her aunt to search for a body double thus this aunty found a woman who's about to get beheaded because she murdered the man who tried to rape her and her family has no means to pay to get her out. So she wedded ML in exchange of money for her family with the promise if ML wake up, she'll be the one to enjoy the fortune. Unexpectedly, just one night after the wedding, ML woke up and hate that he already married to FL so he attempted to divorce her, but after a few incidents they made a promise to keep this marriage for 1 year only because she brought up the marriage prospect of her "family" daughters.
It's really fast-paced and full of tension, by episode 4 there's already a few corpses and multiple crimes. Though this took the route of the princess and the pauper, it seemed like there's a chance the two FLs were twins or cousins, looking at the auntie's reaction. ML was smart and experienced so he saw everything clearly after touching her hand and when they visited FL's house, he confirmed it.

I just started this (finished ep. 1), and I like that the FL is super smart. I hope they don't dumb her down in later episodes. The ML seems unusually cruel, so we'll see if I can stomach it.
I finished The Road to Splendor and really enjoyed it. Lots of political machinations, which can be intriguing.

FL was too idealistic and brave without caution. Without ML or if ML didn't love her, she could be killed for any false accusation, seriously. She's 'harboring' refugees in the land she didn't own, writing controversial stage play, slapping an official. She's so busy offending people (mostly ML) and causing trouble. Any powerful person such as SFL could have killed her and won't bear any punishment. That's republican era. ML was a big red flag, but by episode 16 iirc he came to realization that love didn't have to possess. But then FL got some kind of stockholm syndrome, partly because SML's misconduct and well she was disillusioned by sweet words. I found her annoying and fickle. I found Xu Ruo Han less pretty now than before. Has she gain weight on her cheeks? Why do her face looks big or bloated? Maybe I saw it wrong, maybe it's because of her facial expression or hairstyle? I felt like Cheng Lei's face was smaller than her face, but maybe not.
Previously I was suffering from face blindness and thought the plant man was a new guy but actually it was the brother in-law and what I thought as the third sister was actually the father's favorite concubine. Oops.
Anyway I hope you enjoy it. I myself like the civil war part more than the romance part. Shed some tears for some sacrifices made by the loyal soldiers.

I agree that the FL was idealistic and brave and I actually like that part of her. She's the kind of person that can change the minds of people through art and the stage, and she was not the only one. She was working with like-minded people she met through the opera house owned by the ML.
wrt to the refugees, they were arriving and needed food/shelter. She and and her friends helped out. I would not considering this "harboring" as if no one knew they were there and she's alone in keeping their location secret.
At Maple Mansion, FL tried to kill herself to leave the ML. I would not call that "Stockholm Syndrome." FL only started having true positive feelings for the ML after finding out from Li Bo Ren that ML drove through the night, disregarding his own injuries, to bring the surgeon who saved FL's mother. And that ML knelt in the rain (overnight?) to gain his father's approval for a lighter sentence for FL's fiancé. FL didn't develop a bond with her abuser (ML) during her captivity because of his psychological abuse. They had a prior bond that was actually improving where she started to think he was a decent person who cared about his people, then he imprisoned her to try and possess her. Their bond then became very negative and she only pretended it was positive to lull him into a false sense of security. Just when he thought things were turning around, she attempted suicide.
I know we have differing opinions on the show. I hope we can enjoy on our way.

I'm confused about spoiler, I'll just spoiler tag everything.
It's not actually harboring, maybe I used the wrong symbol. Should I used italic? My bad, I'm not fluent in english. I meant she felt like she was the one harboring the refugees even though she's not. The refugees lived in an empty land ofc, but when someone tried to take over the land, they acted like they owned the place. FL was in the front. She has that heroic spirit for sure. and when ML threaten to shoo away the refugees because he was the one provided the land and the jobs and the foods and the medicine and PR card and many more, she retaliated. I'm sorry? Is she delusional and insane? She thought she was the one helping them the most. But in reality it's ML who helped much more for the people and the country. ML was right back then saying that they were the one fought for the country after FL said she hated the powerful and rich people. While actually it's the powerful and rich people that's able to protect the country and help poor people. I prefer FL who knew when to be brave and when to protect herself. Someone who don't generalise people and can see through people. Not some kind of damsel in distress who blamed the rich but expecting the rich will donate money and foods for the refugees writing that script play and misjudged everyone, always having prejudice. But well, this drama made to have this kind of FL so I kind of understand.
Yeah, it's not stockholm syndrome, that's why I said some kind of stockholm syndrome. She's not feeling it during the confinement, but after the confinement. ML has been helping her right and left, protecting her from evil people. Though half of it was ML's fault, still he cared a lot about her. But she's too busy showing her moral high ground, that she's way above ML to see all his efforts. Thinking that ML was unreasonably did a lot of things including executing SML. He's a spy for God's sake. I bet she thought she captured him because he wanted to sleep with her while actually ML wanted to protect her because if they're married and he was a spy, she will have to die too. It's unredeemable. And she's too fickle.

It's very common to have different opinion as different people has different preference. I don't dislike the drama. I definitely enjoy it so far. Happy watching!
While waiting for new episodes of The Lament of Autumn, I'm watching Blossoms of Power. I've only completed 3 episodes, but so far, I'm enjoying it. The last time I saw He Yu was in the modern RomCom Let's Meet Now. I like his Crown Prince character in BoP.
