There have been a few CDramas I've been eying. I finally bit the bullet and started Spring of the Blade because I like both leads. They've never worked together so let's see how this goes. I'm starting ep. 3. So far, so good. I'm really enjoying their interactions and how sassy the FL is, but only in front of the ML.

I thought the episodes will drop at 6pm my time! Didn't realize it's at 12pm. This is one of my highly anticipated dramas for this month.

I understand, I also neglected vertical dramas these days. I keep monitoring new releases but won't watch any this month.
Hahaha! I have watched many K-dramas, HK dramas and Taiwanese dramas in the past, and some Filipino and Japanese dramas.
Wow, I never watch any Filipino dramas, ptw some but not anymore. Completed several movies, but I still prefer Chinese actors' visuals. Feeling familiar. Hehehe
Many "older" Filipino dramas are quite long and you wouldn't know the total number of episodes while they were still airing. So for those that I've watched (not a lot), I didn't really follow every episode from start to finish. But from what I know, recent Filipino dramas that are streamed online have fewer episodes and you would already know the episode count in advance.

Yes, they are long but iirc the duration are short like 15 minutes. For recent drama, they're indeed many shorter Filipino dramas these days. But I have too much on hand. I'll skip them for now.

Iirc there'll be 20 episodes and there are costume like Han dynasty (but it shouldn't be, 3000 years ago was Zhou dynasty according to google), republican era and modern era. Oh, I love such story.
I also start https://kisskh.at/39109-faak-welah-maha-ruk (without me realizing it, maybe I have become a fan of Film Thanapat or maybe I just love his script choice, kinda think he gets the priority to choose script looking at his filmography) which told the story of an influencer who's in huge debt who remembered his father once told him that he had a passbook (bankbook) which received some amount of money regularly since his grandfather first worked for that bank. Planning to use the money to pay the loan shark, he somehow time-travelled to the time when his grandfather (also played by Film) was still young. Oh, how interesting. Trying to finish my Thai Watch Challenge 2026 in November.
Now that "Spring of the Blade" is released, I would need some balancing act to watch both dramas 😄. Haven't started it, but I think it's gonna be a gripping watch!
I don't know about gripping, but I started tonight and I'm already on ep 5. I just don't feel like stopping. The mystery part about the grain is not super interesting to me. It's their back stories I'm super curious about.
Plot wise, Against the Current looks good. But I'm currently not in the mood to watch Chinese costume drama unless I really like the actors and or the story is quite different.
I highly recommend Against the Current. The general plot line is not that different BUT........... hear me out, its really well made. I enjoy it when the writers don't treat the audience like idiots and this drama from the perspective of maids in a big household is beautifully told with sensitivity and spirit. Courageous acts don't always need to be bold and grand. Sometimes living everyday and surviving is courage too.
I have liked Seven Tan since the sword and brocade days and she is doing a phenomenal job here. The first episode had me bawling. The actors are sooooo good and that includes the girl who plays the young FL.
I only wish I had started it after all the episodes were done airing because the 2 episodes per day is sheer torture. But if I must get tortured, I must get tortured. SIGH

Yes, my sentiments, exactly! Surviving, making the most of each day and staying hopeful takes courage as well. I hope this drama will stay consistently good until the end.

Imo, Seven Tan and Liu Xue Yi are crushing it! They gave excellent and believable portrayals of their characters. Agree that the cast overall are doing well.

I wish they will release more episodes per day. I did not expect to like AtC this much. I had added it in my PTW list, but it was not one of my highly anticipated dramas for the year.

Oh yeah, the one with Walace Chung. I watched Tan Song Yun (sfl) as early as Yang Yang's modern sport/youth drama that also has Wu Lei and Bai Jing Ting but I forgot who played the female lead. And later on I watched pretty much all of her dramas until her modern melodrama with Jing Bo Ran which I dropped.

This. Isn't Against the Current has like 40+ episodes? Oh that's quite a lot. I hope it doesn't go downhill or repetitive midway. Anyway, happy watching!
3 days ago a new trailer for Tian Xi Wei's Where the Mask Ends were released in Youku's conference. That looks so good. I hope it doesn't betray my high expectation.

Same girl! Same! I did not even have it on the top 10 of dramas that I was really looking forward to. The generic blurb on MDL was also much more bland for this show, I really did not not have any expectations from it except it was going to have Seven Tan in it.
So happy to be proven wrong.
I have often seen that shows where there are women in the main production team seem to do better over all. I think the mix of two different perspectives gives an extra depth to the storytelling.

We are at episode 20 and I think we are speeding along, in fact I think we are gathering more steam if anything. The drama is now bringing together the various mini stories and weaving them together.
Tian Xi Wei's New Life Begins is the only drama that has a 10 from me. So I am excited about her return to a costume drama.

I'll be doing the opposite he he. Watching spring of the blade while waiting for ATC episodes to air. I started SotB but haven't been able to get into it much yet. Let's see how it goes.
SotB started off kind of slow for me, but I found I liked it the more I'm watching. I think ATC is more compelling though. Completely obsessed with it atm.
