It's good if you like women centred dramas imo.

RE: The Glory I do enjoy them. I'm watching Blossoms of Power and The Lament of Autumn right now, and I like both series. I completed The Road to Splendor and Against the Current recently and loved both.

:)

I haven't watched any of them of them yet, but they're all on my main and secondary lists.

Legend of the female general 10/10. I don't know..... I just really liked it.

I loved it. It was also the first time I watched Ryan Cheng (Cheng Lei).

I personally didn't like The Legend of the Female General. That drama had a vixen FL who's chanting 都督 seductively all the time. I dropped it midway after 20 eps. Maybe when she started wearing female clothes for a mission. Soldier heh. Cross-dressing heh.

Ooooooo my first Cheng Lei drama was A familiar stranger

Ooooooooh A familiar stranger was steamy and perfect! Had me in my seat throughout. Definitely a great intro for the actor.

I initially like the way LofTFG was going but then they switched back to her feminine character and it went sideways for me. I was seriously looking for some role reversal and military plot but they just used it as a trope for the leads to intrigue each other.

I wish they had kept her in the soldier's disguise longer, would have added more angst and layers to the story. There were so many things that could have added complexity to the plot if they had continued the ruse but instead it got diluted and very one dimensional.

I think it may be my favourite Chinese short form drama.

I also first watched Cheng Lei on A Familiar Stranger, but it's been so long, I actually forgot my impression of him there. But he's typecasted a lot.

I stopped midway so I have no say on the lack of layers or complexity. I don't mind gender bender, but shouldn't the one trying to hide her identity do her best to avoid being seen as a woman. And she clearly enjoyed it, wearing woman clothes. That's so wrong, it's illogical. Again, it's just my personal opinion.

If you like role reversal, currently airing Korean modern drama Love in Disguise is interesting. FL is an enthusiastic defender of justice who works as ML's secretary but also as his bodyguard, but actually she's part of special team from the police trying to investigate ML as they suspecting him as the murderer of his female secretary who's died in the office. ML is a narcissistic otaku businessman who likes heroic woman who's strong and powerful like Joan of Arc also he's been receiving many murder attempts. There's not much plot though, as it's a rom-com.

I absolutely agree with you. That was one of my biggest beefs with the drama. The FL switched back from male to female so quick that it was over in a blink of the eye and then she basically stayed that way.

I do enjoy gender benders ..... when done well. Not necessarily role reversals in behaviour though they can be fun (Oh My General comes to mind) but even when the FL is disguised as male it can be done well. One of the earliest Cdramas I saw was Maiden Holmes and while she dresses as a female at home once ML confesses to knowing she is female, she continues the ruse outside the home in order to be able to investigate cases, I appreciated the layering of challenges that brought as ML struggled with wanting to protect her but also allowing her to be seen as a man who protects himself. Like make it make sense. I have to say some of the fight scenes in LoFG were really good, I just wish there was more of them.

Love in Disguise is on my PTW. I am just waiting for it to finish airing. I broke my own rule of waiting for all episodes to be released before jumping in to watch Against the Current and boy I paid with my tears for the whole running time!!

@amdream_weaver I didn't watch Oh My General, I checked it before when people praising it as better than LotFG, but the douban rating is so low (like between 3 to 5?) so I skipped it.

I dropped Maiden Holmes after ML knew about FL's father but didn't tell her eh or not only about the father but also about her father's case? Then she got angry. Yeah anyway I dropped it midway, seems like they're already dating at that time.

Yeah, Zhou Ye was good at the action sequence. She did a few believable fight scene. More on the technique rather than the power.

I'm also waiting for several dramas to be concluded (or almost concluded) before binge watch them when the plot seems serious or I need to digest the story or it's a tragedy (but sometimes I wait for a few more months until I'm not watchinh any airing Chinese dramas), but these days I'm watching rather viewer friendly dramas. For historical, I'm cw Yoshine Kyoko and Honda Kyoya's A Calm Sea and Beautiful Days with You Season 2, The Lament of Autumn, and Where the Mask Ends. Also cw Unsettled Case which set in 1990s + a few decades (since it's unsettled case/cold case).

But I do plan to binge watch Xiao Zhan's healing medical modern dramaSmall Town Remedyafter I finish Zhang Dong Liang's healing travelling modern dramaA Thousand Goodnighttoday. Feels like I started it on September but I got distracted a lot by airing dramas.
