I'm the Most Beautiful Count: I loved the first episode. It was light, fun, and now I’m totally hooked. It’s been ages since I laughed this hard!

Memoir of Rati: GreatInn and AouBoom are incredible actors, and they’re absolutely perfect in their roles. P’Thee’s courage in openly showing his feelings for K’Rati walking hand in hand through the city despite judgmental stares, and then making that vow at the shrine with such unwavering love and confidence and K’Rati’s surprise upon hearing the oath were portrayed so sincerely and genuinely by both actors that I was left swooning. I need a happy ending for these two. If K’Rati wasn’t already in love with P’Thee, that moment would’ve sealed the deal. Dech is really winning me over. He’s not afraid to stand his ground whether it’s confronting his father, protecting Buaphan, or supporting Mek.

Just started watching The End of the World With You.

The first time I saw something about this series was in a YT video, but the image went by so fast I honestly thought the show was called Lust.

lol honestly i would too

Although it's not for everyone, I thought this one was really good. It's a uniquely original story, and the relationship dynamics were really interesting, not just between the protagonists but also among the group of "fellow travellers". I'll be interested to hear your reaction.

Is this a translation problem?

That could be.  I'm just now starting ep. 1 of "Most Beautiful Count" but I'll already take a guess:

The role of gender in Thai language is very different than in European languages, e.g. the pronoun "khao" (if it's even used) can be "he" or "she", but the politeness particle at the end ("krap" vs. "kha") is highly gendered and thus is often used as a storytelling or comedy device in Thai gender-swap stories, or when ladyboys are speaking - but it refers to the speaker, not the subject. It's difficult to translate this nuance into English.

ETA: I see, for example, that the translation is "she" even when Jade is speaking, so yeah, it's just a bad translation (whether auto/AI or manual) rather than any deliberate attempt to capture effeminate speech.

I’ve been studying Thai but it’s so complicated. I also want to know if people deliberately use different pronouns or not. clearly ladyboys or femme men like to use female pronouns because I’ve seen it in multiple shows, and sometimes characters even correct it. But would we consider them transgender or is it more of a courtesy in Thailand? Pronouns are such a big deal here.
I know about ka/krap so I guess I’ll have to pay attention to that. I also know many words are gender neutral in Thai that are not in English.
still, I read something about Google translate always defaulting to a female speaker in thai. So that could affect things but not on purpose if any auto translate is used.

but I’d still like to learn more about gender identity in Thailand and use of pronouns. I just can’t find anything that adequately explains it.

regarding I’m the most beautiful count, frankly i don’t like it when femme guys/genderqueer people are used as comedy. In this show they added time travel to make it “fish out of water,” but still they’re making fun of effeminate behavior in a male character. This won’t stop me from watching but it does make it hard for me to find it really funny.

How's everyone? I haven't watched any BL titles in a few days now. One thing I need to do is change my display name again. Sadly MDL allows a change every month. Every 3 months you can change username too. I guess I'm stuck until mid-August.

Trying to get back to BL, but I have a few other things to watch until then. Priority is Revenged Love, but not really. It's a good show. Apparently it has a crazy fandom? But it's to be expected.

This month I decided to read more books. I made myself a challenge to read 52 books this year, one book per week. But since I was hospitalized and busy for the first half of the year, I need to catch up.

The ending...!!

Very interesting. I love the retro era for sure. I have as many questions as comments. I'll keep watching and maybe the answers will come in time. It seems like there were a lot of protests around the time when man landed on the moon. (and a lot of smokers 😆) I wonder if all of the moon footage in the drama was for real.  I was captivated from beginning to end with every scene.

I couldn't take my eyes off Apo!  👀 A small but significant detail is Apo's  crescent moon pin on his suit. I really liked Victor/Peter Deriy's role. It appears to be his first drama, so I sent his first flowers for support!

I googled "The far side of the moon" cuz it sounded vaguely familiar and found an album by Pink Floyd called "The Dark Side of the Moon", which I absolutely loved listening to. It says it released in 1973 so after the time period  for this drama. I don't think it plays into the story, but maybe someone was inspired by their music.

The OST song is amazing! Slot Machine did the theme song for KinnPorsche too.

There's two versions with two drama pages.

Orchestric - Uncut
Acoustic -  Cut

Hey, I just watched another one this morning — it’s called Sweetheart Service. Has anyone seen it? I absolutely loved the personalities of the two main characters, totally fell in love haha. Too bad it doesn’t have some spicier scenes though haha 🧡💛

The Nameless Season is a new YT short series, a prequel to "Riding a Bike" from the "Close to You" series. Starts Aug 9

 Neul98-AmorBL:
Sweetheart Service. Has anyone seen it?

I finished it a few days ago and posted that it was okay. I'm glad you enjoyed it!

I really enjoyed it

I would've written sooner, but I was partying hard to forget I'm another year older 🥳 (just joking, I've been busy meeting with friends and baking them cakes 🤤)
The good news is, my fortnight's holidays have just started, so hopefully I'll be able to catch up with all the currently airing BLs I'm interested in (Reset, here I come 😍)
Now that I've got more free time, I'll be posting here more often, be warned 😜

COMPLETED

Trapped in Osaka
For as short as it was, I liked it. I think they did a good job with the time limit and the budget they've got. My favourite out of the three available so far on their YT channel.
The script was interesting for such a short story and the actors did a great job portraying their characters. Chenxi especially, he's shown such range of emotions: grief, anger, longing, lust, resignation, numbness, hope... It was a joy to watch their feelings grow and change from debtor and debt collector to lovers. They saved each other. If it was a little longer, it might've been even better.

A Sketchy Job
Another drama with fake-relationship-turned-real trope. I should've liked it, but the script was weak.
The chemistry between our main couple was good and things were going well, but then the fiancée appeared and started threatening them. They were supposedly in mortal danger if they decided to stay together, but the series failed to show that danger, so I wasn't emotionally invested in their forbidden love story.

Mission to the Moon
I don't even know what to think about it. I'm not a fan of the format of this series, but I am a fan of the main couple. Their chemistry was the best feature of this production.
The story was kind of crazy. We've got a ghost obsessed with his past lover's reincarnation, trying to protect him from evil spirits of their past life and make him remember their love. The task wasn't easy, but he did it. He then disappeared and reappeared. If I understood correctly, he's going to hang about his lover until he gets old and dies, and then they'll reunite in the afterlife. What? On the way to this point we've got some killer black smoke straight from some xianxia drama, teleportation and whatnot.

Knock Out
I liked it, wasn't bad at all 😊
Good triumphed over evil and everyone lived happily ever after. I like the way they resolved all the conflicts and tied up all the loose ends. Everyone got what they deserved. Longevity and prosperity to Kirin Muaythai Academy!

Pit Babe 2
Am I surprised? No, not at all. Am I disappointed? Yeah, a little bit 😠
I didn't watch this series for the main plot, but it was a mess. Many of the decisions made by the characters were illogical and made no sense to me. This season made me believe Tony is actually a cockroach, he's been so hard to get rid of. I was happy with the addition of Willy, he was so fun to hate. Alan annoyed me beyond comprehension. They've put in so many couples this season (at least five), but they didn't provide them with enough screen time to develop a decent storyline.
My poor KentaKim... Their story was so short, they've barely got like 20 minutes together throughout the series. Also, how am I supposed to interpret that ending? I need some good quality KentaKim fanfics to lift up my mood. Having said that, I've got to say Benz and Garfield delivered. I truly enjoy these two as a couple and I need them to play the main couple in some well-written drama. I wouldn't mind enemies-to-lovers kind of storyline, they're great at those 🤩

Sweetheart Service
It was okay, I guess. It could have been better, though.
I've got a soft spot for fake-relationship-turned-real trope. There are things I would've changed in their storyline, but I generally liked Minwoo and Yooha's relationship. The golden rule - never trust a woman in a BL series - proved to be right once again.  Suyeon was fishy right from the moment she asked for Yooha to be her fake boyfriend. Oh, well... all's well that ends well.
I didn't understand Taeha and Jaemin's storyline. When did they even fall in love? Their storyline felt underdeveloped. Also, why did Taeha run away? I failed to understand the motives behind his actions.

My Sweetheart Jom
Wow, I didn't expect to like it this much. It turned out to be a decent series with a satisfying last episode. It wasn't flawless, but I enjoyed it a lot.
Surprisingly, Jom and Yo make a well-matched couple with a good chemistry. In the beginning Yo seems to be a brat, but he does have a noble heart and it gets the better of him sometimes, that's why he's misunderstood as a troublemaker. Probably my favourite character, right after grandma (she was absolutely the best 😁). I also loved the way he was in love with Jom - after coming to terms with his feelings, his love for Jom was unyielding and he was bold enough to fight for his heart. Jom was also a very kind person, even if strict at times. Both were willing to overcome the obstacles on the way to their happily ever after.
The action parts were well-made, too. Both of our leads could kick a$$. There were a few villains, some funny, some serious, but none of them boring.
My least favourite character was Earn. My goodness, this girl could be irritating. The less I saw her on my screen, the better.
I really enjoyed the high school part. All those teenagers were precious, their youthful spirit, their bond, their bickering, their first loves... It was done well.

The Next Prince
It is a high quality production with some product placement here and there, the main couple has lots of chemistry and the plot revolves mainly around Khanin, with some underwhelming subplots. This drama had potential to be great, but it didn't live up to it.
The main couple played their parts well, I'm glad we've had some character development for Khanin. I don't why, but their NC scenes made me feel like a peeping Tom, like I was watching something I wasn't supposed to. Has anyone else felt this way? Their story was meticulously written, and sadly, I can't say the same about other storylines. I'm not going to lie, it felt like they neglected  them and I'm not thrilled about it.
I'm still not sure what was Ramil and Paytai's situationship. We were shown some bits of backstory and information, but I felt like they were not adressed properly. Now I'm left wondering... I wish more time was dedicated to our secondary couples, because Calvin and Jay's story did not make much sense to me either.

Maybe I'm just picky, I don't know. I'm really curious about your opinions.

'I can't get no satisfaction' - I was singing while watching some of these. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the next ones to be better.

I just finished the final episode of The Next Prince and OMG what a fantastic final episode. This series was everything I imagined and hoped it would be and far exceeded my expectations 10x easily.

I don't have a ton of commentary to drop here about everything throughout this series finale episode, but there is one thing that deserves a mention. Ramil is fully redeemed.

Now let's all hope for a special that follows that ending. 🥹

RE: The Next Prince - Yes I actually mentioned smth along these same lines awhile ago, regarding the same drama. For me it's mostly cuz they are a real life couple so yeah...

I’ll admit I started watching this series because of the theme song. Honestly, I was expecting something about people doing whatever it takes to survive the end of the world. But what I found was a hidden gem. It’s not an easy show to watch, but the way it dives deep into emotional trauma, toxic relationships, suppressed feelings, identity, existential questions, and the search for meaning in the face of death is incredibly raw and powerful. It’s so intense, but also so beautifully sensitive. We all have our own personal “meteor” that feels like it could "destroy” us, but learning to face it is the only way to build a future worth living. This series really stuck with me, and it’s made me reflect on a lot of things. Highly recommend, both the show and the soundtrack.

 Indie Art Girl:
Very interesting. I love the retro era for sure.

BOC never disappoints. I'm obsessed with everything from the '50s, '60s, and '70s (pretty sure I was born in the wrong era), and watching this felt like being transported straight back in time. I'm already hooked. I think most of the protests back then were tied to the Vietnam War, and the moon footage looked  realistic. In any normal situation, it's hard to take your eyes off Apo, but in this series he's just on another level. That scene where everything freezes and Tanwa walks toward Trin was pure psychedelic perfection.

Same here!!

Not sure if it's true or not, but I heard the story was originally written for Zee and Nunew. I'd honestly love it if the stories of the other three couples got explored in future seasons, especially Ramil and Paytai’s.

 Jadeheart:

P'Aof announced that there won't be a special, but a miniseries. 😀
