I've rated it an 8 but my taste has changed if I watch it now I would rate it lower for the reasons you have mentionned since I'm more mature now.
Same here, I'm sure I would have loved it when I started watching BL, but I now try to avoid any toxic relations in the BL series I watch, as it gets really quickly on my nerves.

Okay, so I think with this one bit consideration has to be given that it is getting to be in a BL industry context to be an older series. I think at the time when this was originally aired 2019 (I think I watched it originally somewhere around 2020/2021) these kinds of dynamics were not exactly uncommon, a lot of the series had to some degree questionable dynamics in them. There were also series with healthy dynamics, but as I said the opposite was not that uncommon.
That's for sure! And on top, watching the last eps of Tharntype while starting Bad Buddy (which showcases a pretty healthy relationship), increased even more the feeling I had that it was super toxic. I couldn't stand Tharn and Type anymore and really had to push through to finish it. I agree with you that a lot of BL pre-covid had this kind of scenario and it was indeed pretty common, watching it in 2026 has a different vibe.

I honestly didn't like it. Type is a homophobe who acts high and mighty at times, while Tharn is (excuse my French) a total creep with rape-ish behavior. I don't understand how people liked the series since it shows Tharn forcing himself on Type, and Type being a complete ass who somewhat manipulates Tharn.
I love your description! I may not feel it that strongly but yes, I was upset with Tharn's behavior, be it the way he was forcing it at the beginning, or switching to assertive mode the last two third of the series, and almost smiling after getting slapped. Type character was also really caricatural (like come on guy, do you need to turn to violence every time you feel you may be betrayed? Maybe try yoga for a bit).
I also had a real issue how the story portrayed Type's assault by a a grown-up man as the result of a gay man. Sorry but it was an adult assaulting a child, not a reason to hate gay guys.
The second main issue I had as well was mentioned in one of the reviews, and has to do with Mew being cast as Tharn. Mew was 28 at the time, looked also his age (don't get me wrong, I really like him) but I really couldn't see him portraying a 19 year old guy. So many times I was like "who the hell would let this happen/wouldn't talk it through/wouldn't clarify the situation... ah yes he looks older/more mature but is supposed to be 19"
Anyway I'm expecting this to happen again with top rated BL as I'm digging more and more into dramas prior to 2022, and I still expect to be super upset with some of them!
