How long until the situation worsens? Have you guys seen the iQiY announcement? They're going to use the likeness of some of their actors for creating AI dramas.
This can't get any worse i s2g. They want us to watch series where the actors aren't even actors but just their faces on an AI video? What do you guys think? I think this should be banned. I don't care. They shouldn't be able to cut costs by leaving so many people, actors included, effectively jobless.
This is the worst.
On another note, I have finished watching Unknown. It was a heart-wrenching story. 10 out of 10 from me, wishing them all the happiness.
I would not pay for this, if I pay for an entertainment subscription service I want there to be real actors and humans who have actually checked that the plot and acting works. I get enough of AI generated BL content on my social media feed and it's exhausting bc the clips don't make any sense. Even if you would take it as animated content, it just clearly very quickly done with no thought on how everything should go together and how hollow the AI characters feel.

The On1y one, HIStory 2 : Crossing the line, HIStory 3 : Make our days count, Kiseki : Dear to me. I'm only recommending the ones I've rated 8.5 or higher.

I loved "Secret Lovers", so that might give an indication of my tastes.
Other Taiwanese BLs that I loved : "See Your Love" (deafness theme) , "About Youth" (young first love), "Stay By My Side" (really sweet with ghost/supernatural theme) and "DNA Says Love You" (an unexpected gem). "VIP Only" and "My Tooth Your Love" were also really nice watches, albeit not quite at the same level.
There are also two excellent Taiwanese BL-adjacent movies that I can recommend, both on Netflix: "Marry My Dead Body" (gay-themed police action-comedy) and "Balloon's Landing" (although some claim it's bromance, I would definitely call it BL, albeit without any physical stuff - but the ending is bittersweet).
I'm sure I'm forgetting some good ones, but others will undoubtedly chime in.

i agree. it's kinda crazy to me that anyone finds that stuff worth their time or especially their money. i know a lot of people see stuff like this inevitable but it really doesn't have to be that way. especially when it comes to replacing actors. ofc those people deserve to keep their jobs and their incomes but either way no algorithm could ever fully replicate human acting

The other one I'm not sure about but I like most period dramas and the costumes should be amazing. Farewell My Concubine. It's really old.
Along with Dora's title I might be able to add at least 2 of these to my challenge.

farewell my concubine is really really good, leslie cheung is one of my favorite actors and this is probably the role he's most famous for. visually it's very beautiful, especially the opera costumes. and a very important part of queer history in media. it handles some heavier topics (the ending is not a very happy one) but i think it's very much worth it if you feel up for that

I don't understand how they managed to make series with three main couples feeling that some things were rushed and that simultaneously we didn't have enough plot for three main relationships in a single series. The pace things were happening in the last episode was almost comical. 😅 Also why did we still have Tawan and Dindin throwing punches at each other even in the last episode?! 🙄 This dynamic was straight out of pre-pandemic BL show and I would have rather left it there.
I will still blame the slow first 2-4 episodes, making the last few episodes feel that they really just had to speed trough the relationship development archs. Overall this is not going to be a really memorable series for me.
I was so busy watching the TharnType special ep and continuing Perfect 10 Liners that I had forgotten about this last ep. It would have been for the best if I had forgotten forever, it was so bad! 😫 They solved everyone's problems in less than 30 minutes, including 2 death-threatening diseases, a long-distance relationship, 2 flourishing businesses and a restart of a pilot career after a 2-minutes talk. I think the worst (if you put aside the punches as love signs, throwing away litters on the beach in a fit of anger, or reconciling with a mother you didn't see for 20 years over a 10-words conversation) was putting bad NC everywhere to cover for the scenario which was lacking in everything 🤮. I should have run away!

It was alright but not great. The protaganists are a strange pair, the story has weaknesses, and I didn't feel a lot of chemistry. While I often like the "unlikely bond" or "odd couple" trope (e.g. "FY2: Sun From Another Star"), in this case I just didn't feel it. That being said, I felt more enthusiastic with ep. 6 as a different perspective of the backstory is revealed, and the final episode was decent.
Also, if you watched "The Boyfriend", it's fun to see Dai in a small supporting role.
I did see The Boyfriend and I liked it. Well, I"ll give it a go and you know me, if I don't like it not much time wasted! I'll find a new title. 🤣

Do you mean which series does Dai have a role in? That would be The Proper Way To Write Love. The other series mentioned is where Dai is in a reality show called The Boyfriend.

Ok it’s two boyfriends and one is trying to force the other into something sexual. The one who was being the aggressor says the face his boyfriend makes after he throws him off is the face he has been waiting to see.
This is the setup to tell us that one guy entered the relationship to get revenge. The show fills in the backstory. They do fall in love for real, don’t worry. Also the scene may come up again chronologically in the relationship but there are no other assault or attempted assault scenes. It is actually quite a nice story, I thought.
