Since I’m tipsy and it’s 3:30 a.m., I’m just going to get everything off my chest.

I’m so disappointed in myself. I was supposed to start my 5th year of Korean classes this year, but I completely forgot to enroll earlier. So today I went there, and they told me I couldn’t enroll because the class was already full.

I then saw my teacher, and she was disappointed too, since I’m the student she’s had for the longest time. I started the same year she started teaching, so it made me feel even worse.

So, probably no Korean classes for me this year, even though I have an exam coming up in about a month.

I’m trying to always look for the positive side of things, and if there’s one lesson I can take from this situation, it’s that I should do what I can as soon as I can instead of always putting things off until later. 😭

I’ll need some sweet BLs to comfort me later. I’m so sorry for posting all of this at once, and I’ll probably delete it when I wake up. 😭

First of all, I don’t think anyone minds you posting this. Secondly, we are not judging (at least most of us aren’t.) Thirdly, we’re sad for you that you didn’t get into your class.

There are some things in life we regret for a long time and others we forget we even cared about—and lots of stuff in between. As my mental health deteriorated in my twenties, I made a lot of mistakes with things like paperwork, including not applying for my teaching license in time to interview for a job that was interested in me. I sometimes wonder if my life would have been any different if I had gotten that job instead of the one I ended up with (where we had no textbooks, among other things.) But then I remember that because of the worse job, I got a chance to support a trans student who wasn’t out at school but had gotten into a special program that would pay for their underage transition with parental consent. (Being a trans kid was a super big deal in the late 90s, and transitioning underage was extremely rare.) Now I don’t believe in destiny or fate, but I do believe life offers us unexpected opportunities. Considering I’m still thinking about that kids almost 30 years later, I consider that a special experience I was lucky to have.

All these years later, after so many years not being able to work, I have to tell myself, “we do what we can.” Sometimes that’s less than we want to do. Using a mix-up like this to motivate future behavior would be great, but if you procrastinate again, forgive yourself. Beating ourselves up does no good. And maybe you’ll find another way to study Korean for now.

Overall I think Japan has nailed it this year with both quality and quantity. Obviously we can't like them all, but overall I'm enjoying the variety. What do you guys think?

Ditto, even though my feelings about some individual titles vary, due in no small part to my very individual tingly feelings for specific cutie-patooties. I would just qualify this to say that I've always found JBLs (on the whole) strong on quality, particularly originality and variety.

@Lueur Arcane Happy Birthday. Hope your day was good

on the good side, you can use kbls as a practice and then be the first one to enrol in the next time it opens =D

Absolutely! Positive attitude!

@Tiffany, in addition to watching Korean content, I would also suggest doing something on a very regular daily basis so that you don't forget, especially with the different writing system. Although a lot of people criticise Duolingo because it doesn't teach grammar, because it's hard to learn a very different language from the bottom up, and because it won't make you fluent in the real world, I think it's great for keeping in shape with languages on a daily basis, or for refreshing languages one learned long ago (par exemple, le français que j'ai appris il y a longtemps à l'université) because the lessons are short and fun, and because it uses streaks, friendly competition and gamification to strongly encourage one to do it every day. I do Duolingo (various languages) absolutely every day without fail!

Then you'll be ready to re-join the class at the next opportunity.
