Yes. He intends to stream and react live. As stated in my original post, " If you're on X, he has a poll..."

[ X is the new name for Twitter.]

okay, i will check it out. thanks for the info 😆

Just finished Love Class 1&2 and enjoyed them(especially season 2) way more than I thought I would.  Though I'm sad to say that seeing the mic boom hanging in the scenes several times was peculiar because I don't know quite how that would get by the editing process?!?  HOWEVER, I will pretend that it didn't happen and just enjoy that there were some really delightful surprises regarding quality of dialog and the one couple had some of the most vigorously loud kisses I've seen so far in any BL!  Was enough to make me turn it down so my Momma didn't bust into my room :D

Get used to that type of thing in BL dramas. Sometimes, you even get to see the whole crew in a scene. :D

wait what?? when did that happen ToT

The latest instance I've seen was In "Our Dating Sim" (South Korea, 2023), where the film crew are reflected in the elevator doors. There are plenty of other instances in dramas of boom mics, members of the crew being seen, huge continuity issues, etc. I mean, I do remember one actor having a different outfit as a continuity error and that threw me for a loop.

 Chun Mo Rionnag:

Is anyone following Dabit from "His Man Season 2" (2023) as he starts his journey into the BL genre - watching, not acting? If you're on X, he has a poll to recommend his next watch and he's thinking of having a viewing party.

I LOVE sung by Dabit His Man 2 cast! https://youtu.be/ZCm9PAGFZeI?si=NB1_b_RDtBT-Hc2j

So, you did or didn't watch his reactions to "Our Dating Sim " (South Korea, 2023)?

... or conversely, cast wearing the exact same clothes in scenes that should be on different days, e.g. "Takara-kun to Amagi-kun" (Japan 2022) - which is nevertheless one of my favourite BLs. If the series has good (and irresistably cute) actors/characters and a good story with good writing, production quality is secondary. In fact, really low-budget stuff can have a special charm of its own. I'm reminded of some of the old low-budget BBC classics like "Are You Being Served?" - or to take a BL example that I just recently watched, the ultra-low-budget "See You After Quarantine?" (Taiwan 2021, Viki) - literally filmed with a smartphone! - which I enjoyed so much more than I thought I would.

Are You Being Serve

I love this show so much. When I was in high school doing assignments or studying I always had this playing it just grounded my mind. I still do this now or I watch it just for pleasure even if I have seen an episode for the hundredth time.

I think you are indeed onto something, and based on the preview you may be right.

If you subscribe to iQIYI ("Standard" plan, i.e. HD 1080 without ads) and depend on English subtitles: Are you satisfied with iQIYI as a technical platform and especially with the English subtitles? Are the "uncut" versions really uncut/uncensored, despite this being a Chinese platform?

I already subscribe to Viki and Gagaoolala. Between those and all the free stuff on Youtube (albeit it with irritating adverts), you'd think I'd have enough BL to keep me occupied for the next 10+ years - but iQIYI seems to getting more exclusives on series (or uncut versions thereof) that I'm keen to watch (e.g. "Blueming", "Sing My Crush", "Wedding Plan", "My Universe", and soon "Absolute Zero").  Will these stay exclusive to iQIYI, or is there any way of knowing whether these will eventually find their way to Viki and/or Gagaoolala in full, uncut form? Any other brilliant wisdom or insights on this?

The subtitles are generally not as good as Viki, or GagaOoLala, IMO. They can be really hit or miss and, sometimes the English typos and grammatical errors can be significant. Though it's not as bad as WETv can be.

The other issue is that sometimes when Viki takes over a programme, they use the subtitles from the original platform, which is unfortunate as Viki's volunteer translators do extra in that they often include cultural contexts and notes and they always translate texts (phone messages, letters) whereas other platforms don't.

Yes. But it is very regionally dependent. I've recently learned that Chinese censorship is much more lax if the content is released only for overseas audiences.

There is really no way of telling if they will make their way to other platforms. We are generally not privy to contracts for distribution, etc. You can only hope.

Two options to consider:

  1. Find BL communities who hold stream parties, so you can watch online as they watch. Often, communities hold stream parties for older BL just to have people to share the fun with.
  2. Find a fellow BL lover and pool your subscriptions. I've done this for other things, and now for BL, too. This may require a VPN so you can watch in other countries. Since some services allow download to your device (within the service), you can watch at a time you want to watch.

I hope you find a satisfactory solution to your dilemma.

Thanks so much for the helpful feedback. I don't mind paying, but I like to inform myself first.

BIG thanks also to the volunteer translators who do all of this hard work for us, especially on Viki.
