Trying to search 'Warp Effect Silvy' or 'Warp Effect Molly' isn't narrowing things down, other than this one clip. Molly seems to be a side character with not much screentime. If someone else could find me more clips, I'd be happy to try. I am really interested in Thai enby pronoun usage.

Getting the videos to you is taking some time, so in the meantime, here's timestamps if that's okay?

That's awesome! You forgot to post the form in the Thai watch challenge page though.

 AthenaTheStorierX:

Yea..... i know. XD I'll get to it.

I've been meaning to finish Tsukutabe season 2, 23.5 and GAP but I dropped them instead. Then made a MDL game where one can vote for them so I can watch them faster than other dropped series I have. So far only I voted for Tsukutabe and the others didn't receive any votes.

Why did you do a game instead of a voting list? Curious.

Id say thats because the game only counts the winners, not the runners ups. In my own play through just now, Tsukutabe was 2nd place, but 1st place was Word of Honor, so that's where my vote is going to show up. Meanwhile in voting lists, it's point based, so those almost wins reflected as well.

 Florentina:
discovered MDL feeds the other week.

MDL Feeds is definitely the place to be on MDL. I love the feeds community. Been very active in there for years. Even more so when the comment sections on drama pages turned so aggressive and toxic.

 Florentina:
Is it on Youtube already with subs? That's really cool, I'm gonna watch it soon too. It's on my ptw for a few days now, so no rush, but I don't want to forget about it either. Sounds like a lot of fun.

Yea, An Office Thing is on Youtube. Though only the first few episodes are available for free. The rest are behind a paywall until costs get recouped. I highly do recommend it though!

 AthenaTheStorierX:
We've been curious about why you go through the trouble of doing that when you can just stay in the server and mute it when you want to.

Oh. I go through periods of removing myself from social situations like this. It's probably due to my mental illness but I don't know really. I used to friend and then unfriend people on Facebook a lot and I still do that sometimes even on here. Too many unknown people in my friend list? Time to unfriend some.

With Discord servers, I'm not entirely sure why I leave them so much. Granted, last time I left was because I was in the throes of my mental illness quite badly as far as I recall, so there's that. I joined right after I got back from the hospital though. Did I rejoin in March? I forgot.

I do think that games are more visible on the website for longer and people visit that page. I'm not sure people will find a random voting list, even if it can be supposedly featured in the Lists page on here. Besides, I never made a voting list, don't know how to set one up.

Oh, I'll have to wait then. Can't afford to pay for it sadly.

In JP GL section, people tend to forget the OG one, Transit Girls, such a warm and fulfilling story :)

Highly recommended

And nothing comes close to Couple of Mirrors in CN GL section, reading the Manhua before watching the drama is highly recommended

I've just finished Friendly Rivalry and overall I was a bit disappointed with it. I think the start was much better than the end, which I found rushed, messy and quite unsatisfying.

I'm not sure the LGBTQ+ tag was warranted, as the only lesbian scene was in a dream and I'm pretty sure it was just included so it could be put into the trailer. While they two female leads were awake, they just seemed like good friends to me. I can definitely see why some people have criticised this drama for queerbaiting.

I’m very averse to calling stories where censorship is at play “queerbaiting.” It was not long ago at all that GL content on Korean TV was fined. And while BL is getting some interest (though i might add that this is still subject to wide scale protests depending on who is involved and how it’s released), it’s still got that prominent (if not majority) straight woman audience.

From what ive seen of Friendly Rivalry thus far, id say the subtext is there, and they didnt erase storylines to make it fit a het narrative (as may or may not be the case of that korean drama adapted from  a gl manhwa that came out recently).

Queerbaiting is quite hard to actually do when censorship is involved. It does happen, dont get me wrong. I can name a few instances that i think would fit, even with Korean media. But i think people throw that word around without the correct understanding of what queerbaiting is, why it’s criticized, and the country/cultural context they are throwing it at.

But what censorship is involved here? They actually had a scene with two girls in a bathtub kissing passionately. This scene was used in the marketing of the drama, which led people to believe there would be an element of (lesbian) romance in the drama. But there wasn't any. Having some element of romance could have been as simple as the main characters flirting with each other, or even just having an intimate conversation - really anything that indicated to us the viewer that the two girls were attracted to each other. Surely this would have been less controversial than the bathtub scene that they did include.

Yes and the scene was in-text waived away as a dream. South Korea has a very conservative audience. There were massive protests about Love in the Big City just a couple months ago. And the longer/bigger a project is, the worse it is. There's a reason that bl series from there tends to be short and limited with unknown actors.  Friendly Rivalry features multiple, very well-known idols. The fact that they're doing what they did, that Lee Hyeri kissed a girl on screen is already remarkable and already groundbreaking in the current day culture.

In terms of not having any romantic moments, a lot of their scenes in the first half of the show is explictly drawing on both het and gl romance tropes and even framed like that. In the second half, there's not as many of those cute moments because the plot is moving faster but even then, their closeness is pretty obvious.

Truth to be told Sokor or S.Korea is a clout chaser country. They can see how Thai GL and BL dominating the showbiz. So they needed to bait and earn some dosh. Apart from the viewership, the Thai GL fanmeetings, do check the ticket prices of those, specially those which are on foreign soil, it's literally gold mine. The hallyu wave is long gone, they had their hay day and currently Sokor showbiz is going through a very rough time. Too much artificial things, most of the top artists going abroad and working under foreign labels, all the controversies and scandals etc etc

I stopped watching  Friendly Rivalry around ep 11, the story is just baseless, taking viewers on a wild goose chase with all the suspense and 'spicy' baits.

@aylinluna

The South Korean population is nothing but a bunch of hypocrites and staunch homophobic people, they will have no problem when female idols are given costumes to wear where their vulva area gets almost flashed but exposed naval area will make them vomit blood, so them being conservative is just a lame ass excuse the knetz and k-shills give. No offense to you.

Child prostitution accused will keep working in the industry but an actress with troubled relationship will be given death sentence from working in the industry.

yeah! because I started watching gl when I did, i got to watch a lot of the older pieces and slowly work my way down to current day gl and in hindsight I'm really appreciative because I would've been overwhelmed just jumping into it now w/ so many shows airing and I would never have ended up watching older/shorter gl

none taken lol. It's just to say that their LGBT industry is very slow moving and prefers to stay on the fringe when possible so I don't have high expectations from them usually for queer stuff, especially ones like this that has high profile actors.

True. There is homophobia which mostly originates in Sokor from being a staunch Christian country (though they claim no official religion, this percentage of people are non-religious bla bla bla but the truth is total opposite),I am saying this being a Christian myself. And then there was this thing, if you go through their old dramas, from 2010-2020, homosexual people are shown in a bad/shady colour most of the time. Just take the recent Jeongnyeon - The Star is Born drama, they botched the original story. Kim Tae-ri has previously worked in 2 LGBTQ movies (The Handmaiden & Moon Young) but they still did this.
