Has anyone watched the first episode of Hometown Romance yet? Not sure if I should start it seeing as my current watching list is 22 dramas long ๐Ÿ˜ญ

I haven't, I wait till only 2-3 episodes are left to air ;-;

But you can check out my friend's post on mdl, if it helps https://kisskh.at/profile/MademoiselleNoir/feeds/ZD6xebIm

Frankly, i don't expect this story to draw me in, it's probably going to be best for the hardcore lmsy fans

Thanks this did help, I think I will wait until episode 4 airs to see if it keeps the same vibe. I'm not sure if the plot will pull me as well, but if the actors pull it off it might end up being enjoyable despite that.

My general rule is to wait for a show to finish airing so I can binge it.

I use to do that as well, but I noticed I would get out of the mood to watch the drama (i don't know if that makes sense) and miss out on really good shows. I really need to learn if I dont like a drama I dont have to finish it. ๐Ÿ˜… I still have too much of a completionist mentality.

A good rule of thumb is "drop them all" and a pat on the head for every one you complete xD i have a bunch pretty good shows on my droplist ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

I also struggle to drop dramas, although you might not believe me when you see 68 dropped dramas in my MDL list. I try to at least finish a couple of episodes so I can learn the characters and get a feel for the story before dropping it. I initially dropped "My Mister" and "Reply 1988" without even finishing the first episode, but later came back to them. I now consider both dramas to be masterpieces.

If part way through a drama I realise that I just don't care what happens to the main characters, then I'll just drop that drama.

One thing I have learned is that I need to be in the right head space before starting a new drama, especially if it is a heavier drama, otherwise I'm not being fair to the drama. Light and fluffy dramas I can generally start watching no matter how I'm feeling.

This ๐Ÿ’ฏ. Sometimes I'll see an upcoming drama and get really excited for it but by the time it starts airing my head space is somewhere completely different. I think thats why I enjoy watching as they air too, because I can just tell myself its just 1 episode. If the drama is good I'll get in the mood for it.

So on episode 3 of Be My Angel and honestly it's not terrible, but I'm still disappointed. I kind of wish it was a more serious drama. Mainly because a lot of comedy romances are just not funny to me; and that is not exclusive to Thailand. Even in western dramas, romance comedy rarely works for me. ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ

I think if I was really into the comic book style animation and corny soundeffects it might work better but because the comedy doesn't land its kind of a waste. I did read some reviews that said ep 6-8 were the turning point for them so I'm going to power through and see what magic is in the last 3 episodes.

I've also watched 3 episodes and although I agree its not terrible, its also not great. I don't mind the extreme fluffy vibe that they've gone with, but so far the plot just isn't that engaging. Also, I think they've overdone the graphics and sound effects. For me, it has the feel of a G rated Saturday morning drama made for tweens. Because it feels like I'm watching a kids show, I think I'm going to feel a bit awkward if (or when) the two leads find themselves in bed.

I think I'd like to see these two actresses in a more serious GL drama.

I have watched through episode 6 but it has been a slog. I really wanted to support a non binary actor and a more masc lead but the drama hasnโ€™t really been for me so far either. I will finish eventually but it has been disappointing.

Final thought on Be My Angel.

Duh duh duh. I think it got worse ๐Ÿ˜‚ There was a complete tone shift in episode 7 that doesn't fit in with the rest of the series and eps 8 was all about combining or getting the tone back on track? I can't tell.

Warnings: childhood abuse in the form of neglect, suicide

Spoiler thoughts: Jane's entire childhood trauma gets resolved in 5 minutes apparently and it was a terrible conclusion to that arc. I dont even know why they added it when it was just a token resolution with no confrontation.. This actually pissed me off. Then we have the out of no where suicide on behalf of Z's pre Angel self. And the plot twist of her sister actually being her mother didn't matter in the slightest so I also don't know why it was presented in this way. They could have done all of these plot points better if they spent more than 30 minutes of the plot on it.

I feel more let down then if they had kept the same tone and lightheartedness throughout the entire drama.

I only got partway through episode 8 tonight but I agree that the tone shift doesnโ€™t work at all.

i still liked the show but omg the last episode's tone was so off it gave me such a whiplash, it's like they didn't know how to end it without being overly dramatic. i also felt like Z khs for such small reasons it felt unrealistic and the way Jane just forgave her awful grandma so easy was so asian drama coded. they almost always pull that shit it annoys the hell out of me

"Affair" and "Harmony Secret" have both just been added to Netflix in Australia. Hopefully they both get enough views to get Netflix's attention.

I saw that and I just finished Harmony Secret too. The ending could use some work but overall a pretty decent drama.

I've just finished "Be My Angel".

It's very cute, but its quite silly and the plot is very thin. Nothing really happens, or at least nothing of any real consequence. It sort of gets a little bit interesting in episode 7 for a while, but that's about it. The actors did a reasonable job, but no one was given any opportunity to showcase their acting skills. I'd like to see both lead actresses in a more serious drama to see what they can do. The production and cinematography were both very good, so there's that at least.

If you're a fan of super-fluffy, silly romcoms and don't care if the plot is lacking, then you might enjoy this drama. If not, then perhaps give this one a miss.

I've scored it 7/10, which for me means it is below average, but not terrible.
