is anyone watching PLS LOVE..... already know it’s going to sound a little toxic, but honestly, this show hits a little too close to home. As a queer Asian woman who has worked in a high-income professional field and previously dated another woman who worked in the sex industry, I can say that the dynamics portrayed here feel uncomfortably realistic. The second female character, in particular, reminds me of someone I was once involved with, and I know firsthand how complicated, emotionally intense, and potentially toxic these relationships can become.

Although that chapter of my life is behind me, watching this show was genuinely triggering at times. What makes it so compelling, though, is how realistically it portrays the blurred boundaries between professional relationships, financial power, emotional attachment, and romantic involvement. People may assume these situations are rare, but they are more common than many realize, particularly in certain affluent social circles across East and Southeast Asia. Women's clubs and hostess establishments can create environments where personal and professional boundaries become complicated, and it is surprisingly easy to develop feelings for someone you initially knew through their work. Taking that relationship outside the workplace introduces an entirely different set of risks, power dynamics, and emotional complications. Amazing casting and story though.

is anyone watching PLS LOVE

I'll be starting it in about a week and a half so I can binge it. It sounds like an interesting plot.

Has everyone watched Girls' Dorm by Blue Meerkat?

I've found it to be pretty grounded for a reality dating show, without any feeling of forced drama, so I was pleasantly surprised to find it has a second season.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. To be honest, shows like Pls Love with this rich/poor romance can seem very distant, unrealistic, and ungrounded in reality, but I feel like after hearing your words, watching this one in particular will carry more weight when I think that it is in fact not that uncommon of a struggle. Obviously sex work has always presented an emotional and psychological challenge to traditional monogamous relationships, so it was never going to be a light watch, but it certainly hits harder when you aren't under the impression that the narrative is so fantastical it's floating in the sky.

It is really devious ( in a good way) with the cinematography but the cast and plot is very fresh.

I definitely agree that relationships involving significant socioeconomic differences can sometimes feel distant or overly dramatized in fiction, but real-life experiences remind us that these dynamics are much more nuanced than they appear on screen. I think what makes PLS LOVE particularly compelling is that it explores the emotional complexities, power imbalances, and vulnerabilities that can arise in these relationships. Sex work does not automatically make a relationship toxic, but navigating boundaries, trust, intimacy, and societal judgment can add layers of complexity.

Yep. I've watched both seasons. I really liked season 2, probably because three of the couples I 'shipped ended up together. Season 3 is in production now. There was one character who annoyed me because she was super clingy towards one of the other contestants. I actually paid for YouTube membership for their channel to see some of the members only content.

Khom Khlang

I don’t know if anyone can help me. Boom Raveewit is supposed to have a featured guest role in Khom Khlang. I got confused because WeTV was showing him as awarded best character for September but I didn’t remember seeing him. Google says he’s mainly in ep5, but that aired in October. I have scanned through episodes 4 and 5 again and don’t see him anywhere.

Am I just clueless and didn’t recognize him, or has he not shown up yet? Has anyone watching recognized him?

This is his promotional poster for the series. He looks like he has similar tattoos to Master.

BTW I’m still really enjoying this show!

Not automatically, but I sure imagine it's like walking on a knife's edge. You've got to have people who are confident enough in both themselves, each other and the relationship itself to not absolutely destroy themselves with various insecurities, mature enough to communicate properly through any issues that do arise, and open minded enough to accept whatever work the other is doing in the first place. Foundational traits that would make any relationship easier/stronger, but whereas for most relationships it's enough to have them at moderate levels and maybe develop them later over time, trying to navigate one without having these aspects close to mastered at the start is like a chain smoker with chronic hand tremors working at a gas station filling cars. Not at all saying that it isn't possible, but it does definitely feel like the final boss of healthy relationships.

Oh really? Did you find out if any of them got together after the first season ended? There were a few ambiguous links left there~

As I remember it, only one couple ended up together at the end of season 1. I'm unaware of any other contestants who got together after the show ended. I did some basic searching a while back and couldn't find anything, but I'm not stalking their social media.

POST SEASON -1- REAL LIFE "SPOILER" BELOW

They didn't remain together after the show, and one of the two returned in season 2 as a staff member.

POST SEASON -2- REAL LIFE "SPOILER" BELOW

At the completion of the second season, the contestant who returned as a staff member ended up dating one of the contestants from season 2.

Its been a while since I did an update on what I was doing on the GL side of my life. 😆 I originally wanted to finish my 200 thai BL challenge this year and then discuss with the group on building a GL challenge list, but I got sidetracked when I saw a reel on Insta with a list of 50 sapphic horror books. Well, I put aside my BL challenge to read what is now over 100 sapphic books. 😅

Dramas

  1. Moonshadow: Just ended today! Overall I will give this a 7.5. This is an anti-drama drama. Not a criticism but everything works out and tied up in a neat little bow. It's a relaxing watch if you go into it with that mindset, but kind of boring too.

  2. Fairway of Love: I dropped this like a sack of potatoes. Boring in the worst way for me. I cringed while watching this.

  3. Khom Khlang: Eye candy everytime Bulan is in frame. Plot is awesome, and the horror moments are so good! I just want to scream!!!

  4. Pls Love: This is not how I like my toxic relationships. I would love to see a good stalker, controlling, and obsessed GL. Similar to the BL 'To My Shore', but this is just mistrust and trauma. Still, it has moments that keep me interested in how it will turn out. I've been on the fence about dropping it for 2 weeks now. 😅

  5. Juliet & Juliet: I didn't expect to like this drama, but damn is it just blowing me away. Their relationship is adorable and the plot around them is intense. I'm always at the edge of my seat whenever their fathers are involved. This and Khom Khlang are my two favorite dramas right now.

Books (so far)

  1. Hearing Red by Nicole Maser: currently reading, zombie apocalypse with badass doctor and blind woman.

  2. Rules for Vanishing by Kate Alice Marshall: dropped about 30% in, YA haunted forest.

  3. Burn Our Bodies Down by Rory Power: completed, YA sci-fi horror

  4. Knock Knock, Open Wide by Neil Sharpson: completed, really weird supernatural horror

  5. The Luminous Dead by Caitlin Starling: completed, sci-fi cave horror that was good.

  6. Eat the Ones You Love by Sarah Maria Griffin: completed, I don't know if it was meant to be funny, but I was highly amused by this one. It's a sentient man eating plant. 90% of the book is told from the perspective of said plant.

  7. Wilder Girls by Rory Power: completed, YA sci-fi'ish' body horror about school girls isolated on an island with a disease.

  8. Come Out, Come Out by Natalie C. Parker: completed, YA haunted house that deals with the horror of conversion therapy. Emotionally tough even for a YA.

  9. Dead Girls Walking by Sami Ellis: completed, YA haunted house that was fun to say the least.

  10. The Isle in the Silver Sea by Tasha Suri: completed, and not horror but fantasy and so good. I just wanted to read this one okay!

The phrase, a "real gem of a drama" is overused, but I've just watched one that is worthy of that description. "The Secret of Girls" is a short, low budget Chinese GL drama that I enjoyed immensely. It starts as a funny and fluffy rom com and about half way along switches to a poignant and beautiful slice of life drama.

The production was quite good, but there were some minor sound issues. The acting was amazing, much better than what I expect from these short dramas. The story itself is a rollercoaster of emotions, and it most definitely does have a sad ending. But it is a beautifully sad ending, if that makes sense. Plus you know what is coming, so you can prepare for it. I really wish this was a full length drama that had the time to explore the characters more thoroughly.

Unless you are allergic to sad endings, you should watch this drama.

Note: The MDL page says this drama has 24 , five minute episodes. However, the version I watched had 16 episodes that were about 15 minutes long, but only 10 of those minutes was actual new drama.
