Taz-mania:
I'm seeing more and more vertical drama actors now leading short web dramas. Ben Wang's "A Summer Meant For Us" just wrapped up airing, While Ke Chun/Yu Yin's "Sugar & Lies" and Yao Guan Yu's "Love in a Secret" are currently airing. Ma Xiao Yu, Shen Hao Nan, Wang Ge Ge, and He Jian Qi have all also been leads in short webs. While I'm happy for their career advancement, hopefully they continue to film verticals...
I think they will continue. Ke Chun got 2 supporting role for normal-length drama and was busy with variety show but he came back.
Wang Hao Zhen started from normal-length drama before entering vertical drama lands. He knew the struggle.
I remember that Ma Xiao Yu's short drama which like a censored GL getting praised then he went to star on another one short drama and then he came back filming vertical dramas.
Oh you know, I seems to remember Zhang Ji Jun is also a supporting in a normal-length drama I ptw.
Normal-length drama is currently in pitiful state, one producer once said that there's fewer number of projects being filmed by each year, and the sponsors are pretty demanding. They tend to insist on the casting, like it has to be that actor. I think the main leads are always those few popular actors or those few solid actors, there are so many actors had no choice but went to filming shorts and verticals. Not that I complain, I'm happy that some of my favorites having multiple dramas aired each year. I just hope their projects are my cup of tea, so there'll be more drama I'm excited about.
