I read Kitchen by Banana Yoshimoto, Woman with Purple Skirt by Natsuko Imamura and Slow Productivity by Cal Newport in the second half of August. Right now I'm reading My Morning Pages by Carol Miltersteiner, Le grand debarras: ou l'art de faire le vide by Nagisa Tatsumi and re-reading Convenience Store Woman by Sayaka Murata.

Happy reading everyone! ^^

Recently I read [ More days at the Morisaki Bookshop] it was a great fiction novel.

Same I hope he makes more :D

Happy to find this thread on MDL! :)
I'm actually a big bookworm. My yearly reading really depends on how well I can balance all my other hobbies though.
Here's an overview of everything I've read so far (from Latest to oldest)

I'm sooo glad Katábasis finally released and I got to read it. I didn't really like Babel, but this return to Dark Academia was waaay better imo. I enjoyed how adventurous it was. Kuang's critique of the academic system is ruthless here.  Definitely one of my top books by the author now!

Welcome to our book club, dear friend :) Your reading list is quite long and impressive!

Thank you<3

I wish I was reading more this year especially since I'm on vacation this month, but watching series & gaming and other stuff all get in the way. Lol I lean more into scifi & fantasy but I try to read out of my comfort zone every once in a while :)

It's the story of my life... Family, work, and during the little free time that is left I have to squeeze in all my hobbies!

Great selection taking ideas :)

This month i picked up a bunch of short reads.

Satin Moons is a collection of poetry by Oscar Wilde with pieces written after his court case, some while in prison and some during his exile. I had only ever read The Portait of Dorian Gray so this was a nice way to get a broader sense of his work and ... idk there were some striking poems in there.

I also read Boyfriends volume 4, continuing my journey with Refrainbow and their cast of polyamorous boyfriends. This was a nice volume that shook things up a little by changing the setting and kinds of conflict they encountered. I liked if a lot.

For a long time I have been meaning to read The Left Hand of Darkness and I was finally able to give it a shot. I did like it but was surprised by how different it was from what I expected . The ending used the noble sacrafice trope via suicidethat I don't like, but was otherwise interesting.

And lastly I read the novella The Groomsbride was a Dog. Frankly I wasn't sure what to think after I finished reading it.

That sounds like such a cozy idea! 📚✨ I love the thought of having a space where drama lovers can also share their book journeys. Sometimes it’s easier to dive into a story on screen, but a little group motivation really helps bring back the habit of reading. I’ll definitely check out the banners and the thread—thanks for sharing.

Do you already have a first “book of the month” in mind, or is everyone free to just pick their own?

Everyone picks their own. You update with what you've been reading. Welcome and have fun! ^_^

I kinda binge-read A Song to Raise a Storm a few months ago. Couldn't let go of it even during work hours 👀

I also finally finished the 1st book of Jade and Indigo. Quite a ride.

Both of them belong to the romantasy fraction. But I'm not sure if they have international translations 🤔

October book---an  informative and brutal read.  Should be required reading in the schools here.

For November-

Gutted me.  Couldn't read or watch anything for a few days afterward.
