Role Reversal

I am a contemporary drama connoisseur. And if the drama takes place in an interesting office setting? I'm sat! So I thought it'd be fun to rank the female CEOs/office workers in the role reversal content I've seen.

3. Jung Ji Woo (Love and Leashes)

When I first saw the trailer for this movie, I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Not because of the content, but because I'm a 2nd gen. K-Pop fan, and only knew Seohyun as the maknae of Girls' Generation. So it felt almost...wrong to watch her in this kind of role. But we're both millennials, so any "little sister" feelings I had weren't really valid. It didn't matter at the end of the day, because Seohyun completely disappeared into Ji Woo. She played a newbie domme with all the naiveté and focus the role called for. It would've been easy for Ji Woo not to feel like a strong or decisive character because she lacked experience in the...er...arrangement, but she still ended up feeling confident. I could totally see why Ji Hu was desperate to call her "master" (or should I say "mistress" 😏?)

  1. Kang Ji Yeon (Love Scout) & Cha Hyun/Scarlett (Search: WWW)

Asking me to choose between them would be like asking me to choose between my children.

Ji Yeon is the quintessential grumpy, workaholic CEO, and I'm so glad the drama didn't change that just because she's a woman. Given her childhood (a CEO with a traumatic childhood??? No way!), I understood why she was reluctant to form attachments, but when she finally does, she's really endearing. Girlie just needed a hot dilf who could cook (don't we all?).

Scarlett is simply aspirational. Hard-working. Smart. Quick clapbacks. A sense of fashion that won't quit, and fists that don't either. She's even a K-drama junkie. What's not to love? It was certainly satisfying to see her standing up for her friends and her cinnamon roll of a man.

  1. Liang Bing Yan (Forever Love)

I can't find many pics of the character, so this'll have to do.

Is Bing Yan from a trashy vertical? Yes. Is she a red flag? YES. But she's absolutely my favorite female CEO in a role reversal project. I grew up surrounded by tons of toxic CEO dramas, so it was really fun seeing the trope turned on its head. Bing Yan is self-assured, ruthless, and possessive devoted. I can't even begin to explain how much this drama gagged me. Bing Yan basically spent the whole time aura farming, smooching her man, and rescuing him when he needed rescuing. Forever Love made me a fan of Xue Zi Qi, and to this day I'm still chasing that high.

So what are your top 3 favorite female CEOs/office workers from role reversals? They can be from a long-form drama, vertical, or movie.
