This thread is dedicated for those who are interested in Japanese history or want to know more about Historical Japanese dramas and films. There are already similar threads in both Korean and Chinese sections so it would be great to add another one to the Japanese section since I am mostly interested in Japanese history.
I will be adding all Japanese eras even if there weren’t any dramas or films about those periods. I will also be adding the Wikipedia pages corresponding to those periods for better knowledge and so that historical dramas lovers would take this as a reference as where and when everything happened.
Just a note, Japanese taiga dramas (historical dramas produced by NHK ever year) are 95% accurate so there aren’t fictional characters like in most of Korean and Chinese/Hong Kong dramas and therefore, they can absolutely be taken as a reference. I will write (Taiga Drama) instead of (Drama) in front of the title so that you would know the most historically accurate Japanese productions.
The listing is done through alphebetical order for each era and I will try to update this as much as I can. I won't be adding dramas for the Heisei Period (the current era in Japan, according to Japanese years; 2014 is 26 Heisei).
One last thing, don't be surprised to see a drama or a film mentioned in two or three eras because some dramas/films (especially taiga dramas) start in one period and end in another one. Enjoy!
