Xiang Liu and You (Yes, You)

Since it was XY father's kingdom that he is protecting I believe it's one more reason for her to be with him. He was supporting XY even when he didn't know who she was such a gentleman

I'm all for this. Except unlike in Eternal Love,  we do not want a reunion between them. Not unless XY undergo extensive therapy, go back to her WXL personality and get rid of her extra appendage formerly known as Jing.

Hear, hear. She hits "bitch, eating crackers" territory with me on this re-read. I think my tolerance for bullshit and shenanigans is just lower with my advancing age :-)

Forget XY getting rid of Jing; Jing will not let her. You know that he's going to cling to her with a dead grip,  being all "I know I'm not good enough for you, and he's a better fit, but I don't know how I will live without you", with his eyes brimming with tears (*gag*). XY chose her poison, too bad, so sad!!

I'm telling you, the less you think about all the things that are not made explicit in the book, the better. 

Speaking of Chubby. I think it's so cute how Xiang Liu decided to name his steed "Chubby". The fearsome, 9-heads demons with a cruel reputation could have named his steed something that would strike fear into his enemies, and yet, he called him "Chubby". Is this Tong Hua's way of showing Xiang Liu's sweet inner core?

I'm hoping XL gave Chubby to one of his acquaintances like Ah Bi

Xiang Liu sent Chubby to deliver Xiao Yao's present to Sir Bi on the eve of the final battle. Probably as a way to keep him out of harm's way. He fought that final battle without his loyal steed/companion by his side. Hopefully, Sir Bi understood his intention and kept Chubby with him.

Now I'm feeling sad again.

It's certainly a possibility in Chinese' lore. Sir Bi himself is a bird of some kind I believe.
