(Description has spoilers)

I want to find dramas with ML that have been emotionally destroyed by family, parents, siblings, grandparents or friends. Emotionally wrecked. Physically abused. But they fall in love and the female lead is their anchor, life line, savior, breathing machine ;). I want them to not just be douchebags but actually messed up because they were abused. I want them to desperately want their FL, like a bear hug that can’t let you breath. I want that to be a highlight, important part of his plot. Think nightmares, flashbacks, panic attacks.

Important: A Happy Ending.

Think Weilong in Go Ahead, Seven was his reason to be sane: the way he would hug her when his mom was present: when he had nightmares. Is like he really was living and breathing after feeling so much pain when she was with him and he literally said that. He survived living with his mom cause he would daydream that he was with her, imagining their marriage and even pick their child name. He said if you don’t hold me I will sink. He said you took me home when I was a child and I was yours since then.

Think Park Jin hoon in At a Distance Spring is Green when he starts dating Min Ha and when he relapsed or had nightmares or he was physical abused by his parents he will go in hiding for days hide in his room but when he finally resume to go to classes he sees his girl and runs YES runs towards her and hugs her soo tight and breaths deeply, when he said I normally don’t care if I would get run over a car but today I was almost hit by a car and I cared because I wanted to see you. She kept him sane and in a way alive.

other examples

Run On, his dad would hit him and controllled his Life. His girl was his comfort. He didn't care leaving anything behind to be with her because she made him love himself. That just a hug from her made him calm.

Smile Code, Ml had alexithymia—also known as “emotional blindness”— because a trauma. He had nightmares, panick attacks. And the female lead without knowing was his anchor. There’s a part when he is driving and he was speeding 65,70, 75 and she just grasp his wrist and told him to slow down and he breath in and calm himself down. She didn’t know how important she was for him.   Problem is that because of his alexithymia he did hurt her ALOT.

New one I found but it wasn’t as noticeable how important she was towards him fixing his traumas because it was talked about almost at the end was Dear HongRang

Thank you.

Omg thank you. I saw a few of this like my lethal man and Mutual Redemption Love  but I’ll rewatch to see if they are like I’m looking for to add them to my list.

  • Kill me heal me
  • The master's sun
  • The first night with the duke
  • That's okay it's love

The only one I can think of off the top of my head that hasn't been mentioned is Flower of Evil. He tells himself that he's deceiving her about his true nature, but in fact, she is the source of healing in his life.

Seconding It's Okay, That's Love, Come and Hug Me, and Kill Me, Heal Me.

Your request brings up some dramas that are more melo than my typical viewing, so I actually haven't seen The Smile Has Left Your Eyes, but it sounds like it would be right up your alley.

Omg thanks I seen 3 out of 4 except The first night with the Duke. I will add it to my list.

Omg I loved Come and hug me! Thank you for the recommendation. Even tho it wasn’t exactly what I wanted as they were both each others saving grace and I think he saved her more than what I was asking for which was he would feel like he can breath when she is around, or with a hug. The drama was amazing! And actually now I have another favorite character of a kdrama Hyeung Mu the ML older brother.

Why, when I love poring over others' watchlists, did I not investigate yours first? I'm clearly far too self-absorbed.

Requests that get the fewest recommendations are the best requests - they allow others to be thoughtful about past viewing, which is re-living wonderful drama experiences through a new lens!

When I see your 10 stars for Oh My Ghost, a drama of which I am extremely fond, I think that its whimsical pretext is matched by a drama on your Plan to Watch, I'm Not a Robot

The ML isn't wounded due to abuse by family members or others, though. I mean, there was a fated trauma trigger, and he lives all alone and eschews almost all human contact, so he's wounded as hell. In a dramaland universe of wounded male leads, you're looking for the extra-wounded ones, and he fits that description for me. Well, given that we're talking romantic comedy, here. Which, by the way, guarantees your required happy ending.

I'm Not a Robot also fulfills your condition of the ML being healed specifically by the FL. That's a constant and continued thread in the drama.

Even though it doesn't 100% match your request, I'll mention Where Stars Land,  another drama on your Plan to Watch, because it has one of my favorite , most complex, most imaginatively portrayed wounded male leads. And his family members have betrayed and abandoned him, and his difficulties, while not all directly caused by relatives, can be blamed on their actions. It's not a romantic comedy, but it's not a melodrama either. And while the ending features some healing, I'd call it happier than bittersweet but not happy as in everything's perfect let's sashay down the aisle. Come to think of it, kind of like the ending of Oh My Ghost...

However, I 100% love the ending of Oh My Ghost, but I have mixed feelings about the controversial ending of Where Stars Land. The drama's and the ML's relationship to his wounds gave me some culture shock, but I won't explain more because spoilers. I can say that while experiencing the ending of this drama, my thoughts and feelings were both empathy with the character and the drama's message, and distance from the drama because it's mindset about the ML's challenges is different from the mindset of my culture. I deeply and truly value this kind of eye-opening experience, and it's a major reason why I watch tv that's not from where I grew up. However, if you want to be able to suspend your disbelief and be carried on a wave of healing romance right up to the final moment, Where Stars Land is not that kind of drama.

In addition, Where Stars Land does have a singularly wounded male lead, but the FL is not the dominant healing force in his life. She definitely goes beyond being the attraction catalyst for him to work on himself. She actually provides, not only some healing, but also challenges him to change, but she only partially fulfills your request.

Hi I had to reply to this reply because they didn’t let me reply to your well in depth and knowledgeable and informative response, it’s said it was too long to quote it and reply hehhee. Thanks for your recommendations I will add them to my list. Also I love your profile , how it goes in depth in what you love. I had to keep mine not personal or not give  “personal” information to strangers as I had a stalker and bully attacking me just for not liking what they liked, and even if I change my user name and picture they would find a way to find me until I notice the way they knew it was me was my profile and how it looked. I just went back to adding stuff in there after months of my profile being blank, so I hope I don’t bump to another crazy person who can’t stand how I rate or review what I watch because it oppose to their opinion or likes.

Ooh You know how you recommended Smile has left your eyes? Have you watch the original? The Jdrama. You are very open minded as I catched from your profile. The Jdrama is more crazy and twisted. But in the kdrama they had to make it more vanilla, like always 🙄.

If you remember more just DM if you want.

@182 - will do! So sorry you had to go through that.
