We hit 300 votes, woohoo!!

Add GagaOoLala as an official streaming service. This blatant refusal to add them is getting ridiculous and absurd.

Really no excuse for them not too, it’s one of the easiest things to do. MDL, your bias is showing a bit to obviously here! Or should I say prejudice.

Please show gagaoolala as a streaming platform! It will help so much considering they are sometimes the only streaming site for shows.

Wow, 300 votes 20 hours ago and now at 509! Obviously there is strong interest in this.

Right? But I also went and commented on a lot of BL/GL drama pages haha

I do appreciate everyone chiming in with votes on this one. Hopefully MDL will implement this suggestion at some point.

Well the only reason I hadn't voted before was that I didn't know about it! I think it's a great thing that you're raising awareness. Now that I know of the issue I'll be keeping a close eye on it. I really hope MDL adds GagaOOlala soon.🤞

So why don’t they add this service? That’s ridiculous. Please add GagaOOLala!

Perhaps related to this Gagaoolala request...

I requested years ago that either BL or LGBTQ be added to the genre list - and I was told something to the effect of - we need to be careful because the owners are conservative.

Of couse  add  Gagaoolala. For long time I say that

From what I understand of MDLs approach to genres (I'm working on filling in gaps amongst Thai movies so I've asked different genre-related questions), LGBTQ+ and BL are appropriate for tags rather than additional distinct genres.

There are problems with it - Romance in genre + LGBTQ+ in tags can easily be a het romance with a queer side character, much to the dismay of those who feel that sort of title is a waste of their time. Personally I'd be in favour of a 'het romance' tag as well, for equality and so it's clearer that Romance is any orientation.

BL as a tag would be very useful too (and GL), so gay can mean gay rather than BL gay. But defining a border between the two would be a minefield to say the least.

This isn't to excuse the devs for ignoring GagaOOLala for five years, just that there are other reasons not to add BL and LGBTQ+ as additional genres. Any genre can have LGBTQ+ characters, and Romance is romance, whatever the orientation.

"From what I understand of MDLs approach to genres, LGBTQ+ and BL are appropriate for tags rather than additional distinct genres."

I understand where you're coming from, however, LGBTQ and BL, in literature, movies and series is by definition a distinct "genre" - and has been recognized as such for decades.

GENRE: a category of artistic, musical, or literary composition characterized by a particular style, form, or content.

Further, it is used by all streaming services (Viki, iQiyi, etc,) as a genre to improve search.

Back to GagaOOlala - I just wish MDL would say why it hasn't been added - perhaps they have a very logical or contractual reason?

Genre can be defined quite broadly to encompass any number of gradations and distinctions. The devs have chosen to put those in tags - including some which were previously listed as separate genres. And since we're talking about MDL here, how they utilise "Genre" is what matters.

Asking for their approach to be changed on that level is significantly different. It's not always prejudice or discrimination as you implied in the post I was responding to.

Tags for BL and GL make sense, although those who don't watch them will likely assume 'gay romance' and 'lesbian romance' are sufficient. But that's what to ask for, not a change in the way Genre is used across the entirety of the site.

I agree; since the tags are there it's already very easy to search for what specific type of romance one is looking for. I think it's smart to prioritize requests. Adding a service provider such as Gaga is much more helpful for users at this point than expanding MDL's genre categories.
