This isn't true across the board but it might be true for some. I don't know what is for the best overall. I would prefer that the gaming which goes on with certain dramas not unduly influence how the rest of the site works.
I do NOT want to know, or to have to resist the temptation to look at, how many down-votes my reviews get. It will just upset me. Will it really benefit you to have a number or will it upset you further?
I won't be upset. I already know many of my reviews has probably almost the same number of downvotes as they have upvotes, seeing how low they are on the drama pages. I'm curious and want to know, especially since it is something that affects the "rating" of the review.
As for some but not all places - it affects literally every drama pages of all the popular shows. It's not just a few pages. It's something that many users have been complaining about.
If we have downvotes there should be more transparency about them. There also should be a way to sort dramas excluding the downvotes (personally I find downvotes completely useless). TimiZero has a good suggestion to be able to filter the review according to Most Upvote (only count the upvotes) and Most Downvote (only the downvotes). I would say this is a good middle ground.
I'm good with more filters, cause as you've said, it requires endless paging to find something on some of these drama pages.

Additional note not related to filters - with how abused "unhelpful" button is, I think it would be good to just completely remove it. It's ridiculous to see reviews with close to 50-100 upvotes being dropped down the review section and be under some that have just 9-10 upvotes, simply because people downvote the reviews no based on them being "unhelpful" but disagreeing with the opinion of the reviewer.
I'm against removing the help / non helpful buttons, right now, as it's the only way to shove the outright misinforming hater 'reviews' and the slew of people who are dropping 'reviews,' (both positive and negative) after watching one episode to the bottom of the list. Premature reviews, which have longer to accumulate 'votes,' seem to be driving alot of reviews to the top of the 'helpful' list Of course, if MDL would stop people from posting reviews until the end of the drama, that would help solve this problem.
Yes, the buttons say 'helpful,' but lets face it, that's just a polite way of saying Like or Dislike. So I don't have a problem with people using it like that, but I do have a problem with fandoms using it to review bomb. Removing the would work, but like I said, I would hope after they solve the problem of people posting reviews as soon as the drama drops.

The main thing I disagree is removing the unhelpful button. For me either you get rid of both buttons (helpful/unhelpful) OR you keep them both. More I think about it more I think that removing likes /dislike would be the best...It would temper a lot the rush that users have of being "the first" to write something to get likes and have your review on top of the others...I don't think it has a lot of added value 😅

But then I would keep both buttons helpful/unhelpful. Not voting being the neutral stance imo.

I don't know what the answer is, but technical "solutions" can only go so far. The competition culture seems to have become so entrenched in certain fan bases here, we might be stuck with it unless more users decide to just not get caught up in it.
