Hello,

As an archivist I care about all sorts of archives. I used to frequently take snapshots and save MDL webpages to the Wayback Machine, however, It seems that MDL has been blocking the Wayback Machine through Cloudflare verification since the end of January.

Attempting to save a webpage through a shortcut/extension will result in this message "The capture failed because Save Page Now does not have access rights (HTTP status=403).".

When attempting to manually save a webpage by entering the URL directly in https://web.archive.org/ it will result in the following snapshot after finishing the job:

I thought it might be a problem from my side so I tested this scenario on different devices with different connections. I also thought it might be a problem with Wayback Machine but this has been happening since the end of January. Furthermore, checking this link https://web.archive.org/web/*/https://kisskh.at* and sorting by "from" or "to" we can see that there are snapshots taken since January to this day somehow but fewer than usual. Note that some links has port ":80" for some reason too. Maybe you can try to save a webpage and see how that goes.

Digging further into this issue, all I can find is that something was changed with Cloudflare. I think MDL admins need to make some sort of exclusion in Cloudflare to exclude Wayback Machine. I really hope MDL admins/maintainers can look into this issue further.

Thank you.

Hi, I believe it's Cloudflare related. I can take a look at it.

Update: archive.org_bot is allowed on our side, so I'm not exactly sure what's the issue.

Thank you for your reply. Would it be possible to reach out to Cloudflare to trace the issue since it's clearly related to their verification process.  Despite that, there are few snapshots being made somehow. Hopefully this issue can be resolved 🙏
