Perhaps this is already posted somewhere in forum, but I've only just realised there's a page to look up for the status of my edit submissions! Thought I share with new users...

Administrator, if this is redundant, please do let me know and i'll remove the topic. Thanks

One of the most useful things devs have done to help the volunteers they rely on and it's not been published. They've left it to word of mouth and the luck of opening the right thread on the forum.

I have it bookmarked and use it as my entry page to the site. Helps me keep an eye on pending/accepted - something I care about - while also avoiding the front page with its endless manufactured k-celeb gossip.

Wait, omg, I had NO idea- thank you so much for sharing!

What do these numbers mean?

It seems to be the number of contribution points given for accepted edits. Most edits earn one point per but a few seem to be higher.  I've noticed this for a few where I only made one change but received more points.

The figure next to the word approved is the total number of approved edits. It's either the exact number of your submitted edits for that title, or a lower figure (meaning some line items are rejected by approver). As to why you sometimes you get a figure higher than your total edits for that title, i don't know the reason. Cheers

Certain types of edits appear to earn more points than others. It doesn't necessarily line up with effort needed either (tags can be difficult to do well but those are one point), but may reflect overall importance. I was given 6 points for correcting a typo/misspelling in a director's name.

That was easy to recognise as it was the only edit I made to her page.

Here's a question: Is there a point to collecting these points? I have no idea what this point system is about.

well u get coins with contritubion points to spend "flowers" on actors/actresses,other than that nope, just doing it to help the community.

TBH, I started doing edits after seeing errors in existing profile posted on MDL. I haven't spent a single coin of the earned rewards for my contribution.

Don't worry about the points. If you find some aspect of improving the database enjoyable, do that and do it because you enjoy it.

The points can be used to 'gift' other users, like a wee flower emoji on a review or comment you especially like. I mostly use mine to say thanks when someone helps me find a way to watch a movie I'm keen on. It's no big deal, just a nice extra. It's nice to receive one.

They can also be used to 'give' flowers to actors if you're into that parasocial kind of thing.

I don't know how things work behind the scenes, but it seems likely that the points total helps approval staff know how much to trust a contributor.

Thank you to all who answered my question and gave me different helpful perspectives, such as LouM and Elisheva :)

The bottom-line takeaway is to enjoy what we each do and/or how we choose to help the MDL community in any way, regardless of points or not. And for me, write articles for MDL when I have the time (such as the recently-published "Blades Of The Guardians" MDL News article), on unaired dramas and movies of C-Ent or J-Ent.

Every new user of MDL who wants to understand making edits should read this thread and post questions. Thank you for starting this thread, AnastaciaWun!

Thanks for this! I didn't know there is something like this.
