Sawasdee kha and welcome to the Thai Supernatural Club, a conversation and sharing thread for everyone interested in Thai movies, series and lakorns with supernatural elements.
You’re welcome here, however many or few you’ve seen, whether you like your supernatural super-scary or on the gentler side, or something in between. If you want to join - say hello, maybe introduce yourself and check that you’re subscribed to the thread in the upper right corner next to the eye.
If you’re thinking that supernatural = horror, as in scary adrenaline-raising horror, please know that there is plenty from Thailand which isn’t that at all. Thais can put a ghost in anything. I am more than happy to help you find gentler ones.
We’ll have a wee mini-challenge for 2026. It’s informal and a work-in-progess. If we find that some prompts don’t really work, we can modify them. Whatever we want. My hope is that the mini-challenge excourages exploration, sharing and conversation.
If you have questions about anything in the mini-challenge, ask here. Likewise if you’re looking for suggestions for prompts or where to find a title. And of course you’re welcome to participate in this club thread whether or not you’re doing the mini-challenge.
If there’s interest in including other SE Asian countries, I’m open to that. I’m not opposed to some discussion of other countries too, especially for comparison, but please be careful about letting the better known ones take over. You all know what MDL is like and how anything Thai gets lost amongst the masses.
Please keep in mind that we’ll have a range of preference and tolerance levels, so some indication of scare level is recommended. I will probably lean towards making those who are less keen on the thrills and chills side of supernatural feel comfortable here - but horror enthusiasts know that you are welcome too.
“Horror” is a uselessly broad term for a lot of Thai media. It’s forced to cover everything from gory violence to My Boo, which is a sweet love story wrapped in laughter with a female lead whose scary face is like a kitten trying to roar. But Netflix labelled it ‘horror’ so MDL does as well. Not much we can do there.
We can share our knowledge and opinions with each other though. Hopefully we’ll be able to develop a shared vocabulary to make that easier.
Thank you for taking part.
