Need a ruling? Hi. =)

Challenge 15: Travel Thailand: A (0/4):
☐ Southern Thailand:

Should I take that as travel series, or is set in allowed?

"Don't Come Home (2024);" EP1 9:06 min; signs for Chumpon/Takupa PA District.

Takua Pa is a district in Phang Nga province in south Thailand. Does this qualify for "Southern Thailand" prompt? Thanks in advance.

From the synopsis and how early the travel occurs, I'd be inclined to say Southern Thailand rather than travel. I might watch this one at some point, we could talk then. For me, personally, it would depend on how much was filmed in the house and what role the region played in it. My Boo has some famous Bangkok landmark buildings but otherwise could have been anywhere, while The Cursed Land was more tied to a Muslim neighbourhood on the edge of Bangkok and the area in the south they traveled to. (If you like moody horror, that's would suit 15 B IMO.)

The criteria I used when I set regions as my bonus challenge last year was how strong a sense of place I got from the work and how much I learned about the location and the people who live there. (My top recs for that: By the River and Nha Harn.) Did I feel almost as if I had been there? Was there something about it which felt different from works filmed elsewhere? Like the distinctive Isaan landscape and music, or the northern mountains, or how The Trapped 13  was so much more tied to land and people than "foreigners to the rescue" The Cave.

Historical lakorns and movies, in the end I decided no - they tend to be mostly filmed on sets or in and around a big house even if the place is named. Also no to school/campus youth series. Cause You're My Boy was mostly filmed on the streets of Bangkok, so yes to that for the city, but The Gifted, Enigma or Bad Buddy could have been anywhere.

But that's me. Personally, I'm alright with everyone deciding for themselves what level of challenge they want and don't expect others to be as careful as I am. Working out some guidelines would be an interesting group project though and I'd like to hear what JulyMoon thinks.

Thanks, I appreciate your answer. Will continue to look. I'm not pre-picking my watching list this year. Going to try to stay to mostly 2025 releases/ as airing. Something will come up for that block.^_^  Series was fun.

That sounds a challenge :) // Technically everything not filmed abroad is in a Thai region :D // Thanks, I'll give it a go when I finish my lakorn.

I forgot to include my other criteria, which was relevance to the plot. So that could be an argument for some of the historic ones. Certainly any Mae Nak adaptation set in Phra Khanong.

Sorry for the late reply. The Challenge title "Travel Thailand" is just a title I found fitting to the prompts as you need to watch titles set in different regions of Thailand.

It doesn't mean that the title you watch for those prompts have to include traveling in or through Thailand, unless a prompt specifically asks for traveling or a roadtrip.

For example this prompts require some sort of traveling:

Watch a title that takes place in more than one region of Thailand AND
Watch a title that includes the topic traveling/doing a roadtrip within Thailand or from Thailand and back.

All prompts that mention a specific region say "takes place in" so as long as the story takes place in said region it's fitting the prompt. That being said, it must be a main part of the story. A short visit to any specific region does not count if the story itself could've taken place anywhere in Thailand.

For example: Watch a title that takes place in Northern Thailand

Title: A Tale of Thousand Stars (the main location in the drama is the village which is set in Chiang Rai which is Northern region of Thailand)

"Around Thailand" is what I've thought of to make it clearer. How does that sound? (I didn't even realise how Anusaya was reading it but I can see that now.) Not everyone will see the change, or this thread, but at least it will be there.

I can change it to that for next year (don't like to change it when the challenge is running as that could cause more confusion) but to be honest I think this was only a little misunderstanding. The titles haven't caused any confusion yet as far as I know. And the prompt itself was clear in saying "Watch a title that takes place in...".  :)

Tiny clarification- Nothing more. Have a great weekend. I appreciate both of your responses. =)

Yeah, that's what I thought. I have asked similar questions for the MDL Watch Challenge, just to be 100% sure. :)

Have a great weekend as well. ^.^

Joining the challenge, I don't know how many blocks I can complete by the end of the year but I'll try my best! ^^

Hi, I have a question. Do I have to choose a single block for challenges 1, 3, 5, 8, 9, 12, 15, 16 if I want to complete them? Or must I choose multiple/all blocks? Thanks.

Also, must we complete both #16 challenges? Various and It's all in the name? Or can we choose one of them? They have the same number despite being different challenges.

Had the most difficult time finding a title for "Watch a title that has your work or studies or a hobby as its title or theme (side-plot theme is okay)" and ended up with a movie called "AI Love You" because it has "AI" in its title and so, it must be related to compsci to some degree. I also don't know what hobbies should I think of, the ones I have aren't many or find themselves in Thai dramas, I think.

You may choose as many blocks as you want within the categories 1-19. The absolute minimum is obviously one block in the entire challenge, but you may choose more when you feel up to it.

 Florentina:

Thanks for pointing that out, cause it's actually a mishap. That was supposed to be challenge 16 , followed by challenge 17 and not a duplicate, so there are 19 challenges in total, not 18. I'll go and edit it right away.

For this prompt, you could ask for help here. When your hobby is reading, anything with books would be an option, for example a main or supporting character working as an author/editor would be an option, or when it's cooking, look for a main/supporting character being a restaurant owner or cook.

 JulyMoon:
or when it's cooking, look for a main/supporting character being a restaurant owner or cook

I would like to say reading because I actually do that sometimes, but even if I can't cook, can I say cooking? I have a series that's perfect for this prompt then. And I do love other people's cooking lol just not my own, it's terrible.

Idk where to find book related plots or side-plots so if someone could help me with this, I'd be grateful.

Already decided to choose one from A/B/C/etc. for however many blocks (not as many as there are), but damn, I wish I'd discovered challenges earlier this year (in March since I was otherwise unable to access a laptop in the first 2 and a half months of this year, more or less) so I could have watched more. Added 34 titles to my challenge form, hopefully I can finish them all by December. Thank you for answering my questions in such a timely manner, I'll go edit my post right now.

Here are some lists that focus on writers and publishers:

Similar tags would also probably work.

Here's another drama that seems like it would fit the theme: https://kisskh.at/31979-mahatsajan-ruk-karm-gradart
