While waiting its airing, read the completed novel translation here: https://mydramanovel.com/true-cardamom/

I've completed the novel, and I must say I was very surprised—and even angry—at the synopsis for misleading me. It made me think this story would be about two humans uncovering the truth and falling in love along the way. Well, in essence, that is the case, but I was expecting a story more like Chasing Jade (Zhu Yu) when I saw the "female general" tag. After 100 chapters, there wasn’t an ounce of a general in the female lead at all! She was the most delicate and pampered main character I have ever read.

She isn’t evil, and she’s quite likeable at times, but what baffles me more is why the male lead indulged her so much. The story is told mainly from the female lead’s point of view, yet it’s the male lead who does all the work described in the synopsis. She merely exists to be pretty and lovable (Okay, she did contribute once or twice to solving something in the plot, but even that was unintentional.)

That said, the ending is very sweet. I loved the love story between Young Master Shu and the female guard Yun Yi, even though it wasn’t developed much. I hope the drama adaptation makes some changes to some extent, giving more depth to each character.
