Welcome.png

🎉 Assalamu Alaikum everyone! 🎉

It's great to see a community where Muslims and anyone interested in Islam can come together through a shared interest in Asian movies and dramas.

Since this group is new and everyone is welcome to post respectfully, I thought it would be fun to start a thread where we can:

  • Get to know each other.

  • Share ideas for future discussion threads.

  • Vote for the thread ideas we’d most like to see.

We'd love to get to know the members of our new group! Feel free to share as much or as little as you're comfortable with.

You might like to tell us:

  • Which country you're from and what languages you speak.

  • Whether you're Muslim or, if not, what your religious background is.

  • What you enjoy watching and your favorite genres of Asian movies and dramas.

  • How you discovered this group and what you hope to find here.

  • Anything else you'd like us to know.

Let's brainstorm some ideas for future discussions!

Below are a few discussion ideas that came to mind. Nothing is set in stone—we simply wanted to share them and see which ones the group would be interested in.

~ And if we're missing something, post your own thread idea! I'll keep this post updated with everyone's suggestions so they're easy to find.

Now it's over to you! Looking forward to getting to know you all and reading your suggestions.

~ Towards the end of his life, Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) would supplicate before leaving an assembly thus: "Subhanaka Allahumma wa bihamdika, ash-hadu an la ilaha illa Anta, astaghfiruka wa atubu ilaika (O Allah, You are free from every imperfection; all praise is for You. I testify that there is no true god except You, I ask Your forgiveness and turn to You in repentance).'' A man once said to him: "O Messenger of Allah! You have spoken such words as you have never uttered before.'' He said, "It is an expiation of that which goes on in the assembly.''

Assalamu Alaikum everyone! Let me introduce myself, My name is Eesha, derived from عِيشَةٍۢ رَّاضِيَةٍۢ in Surah Al-Qariah, meaning “life of bliss.” On different platforms, I go by the name Eeshall, which means “a flower of heaven.” I am from Pakistan and live in Lahore. I am 22 years old, i joined mdl in 2020 .

I can speak Urdu, the national language, Punjabi, the provincial language, and English, the official language. I also know some Arabic, as I studied it from 5th to 8th grade and learned to translate some parts of the Quran from Arabic to Urdu, so I can easily recognize and understand it.

I’m currently in my 4th professional year at university, with final exams coming up in a month or two. I first got into Korean dramas back in 2016 while on vacation at my grandma’s house. I came across a TV channel showing them, though I didn’t realize they were Korean at the time. I ended up watching three dramas in Urdu dubbing " Empress Ki","My Love from the Stars", and "Heirs" — one after another. That was the start of my journey into East Asian dramas, though I don’t really call them Asian since Asia is vast and I also live in South Asia. In 2018, when I got my first tablet, I started watching more dramas, though not excessively. By 12th grade, I had my own phone, and later in university, I received a laptop on a merit basis, which really set my drama-watching habit adrift, lol. Now I’m studying medicine, and that’s all y'all , Looking forward to getting to know everyone here.

Assalamu Alaikum.

First of all thanks to @Ivy for starting the thread and personally inviting me to come here.

I will go with my online name Timi and I'm from Malaysia. I speak natively Malay and a little English. I understand some Japanese but very rarely have the chance to speak.

I learned Islam in my language so I may not be that useful when it comes to discussing in depth Islamic info in English. I don't know Arabic except some common words or the borrowed words that already become part of Malay.

Nice to meet everyone!

Oh yeah I don't become member of this group yet because I want to see where it's going. Furthermore, I still can see the discussion without being the members.

Assalamu Alaikum, everyone! 🤍

My name is Anunna Islam, but my online friends usually call me Anu. I'm from Bangladesh. I can communicate in Bangla, Hindi/Urdu, and English. I don't know much Arabic yet, but I'm really interested in learning it.

Anyway, it's lovely to meet you all! I hope we can get along well. 🥹🤍✨

Waalaikum Assalam, Timi! I'm glad you accepted. I thought you'd bring a unique Malaysian-Japanese perspective to the community.

There's something about Malaysia that has always fascinated me. Maybe it's because I grew up watching anime, so in my head it became the Islamic version of Japan. 😆

Of course! Feel free to stick around and see if it's your kind of place.

Sumbangan anda sentiasa dialu-alukan. I hope I got that right. 😆

Assalamu Alaikum, everyone!

My real name is Razan. I'm Jordanian with Syrian roots. I speak Arabic fluently, as well as English, so if you ever need help with Arabic, I'd be happy to help.

I enjoy studying different religions and spend a lot of time exploring different perspectives and watching respectful debates. Early on, I had questions and doubts about my own faith, and that curiosity led me on a journey of learning. Alhamdulillah, what I learned only strengthened my faith, and today it is stronger than ever.

I may not be as active as I'd like to be because of my full-time job (I'm a software developer, if anyone's curious). But whenever I can, I'll be happy to answer questions, join discussions, and share my Arab perspective.

Thank you for reading. I look forward to getting to know you all.

Waalaikum Assalam, Eesha! What a beautiful name. May Allah bless your life with endless happiness and barakah. 🤍 I really enjoyed reading your introduction, and I'm looking forward to learning more about Pakistan.

Wow, medicine! That's such a rewarding, yet demanding field. Everyone's journey is different, but let me encourage you a little: life after university is often much better than the university years themselves, inshaAllah. So keep going—you have a bright future ahead of you. May Allah grant you success in your final exams and make it easy for you. Ameen. 🤍

Oh, and one more thing... would you teach us how to say "May Allah grant me strength" in Punjabi? 😊

Waalaikum Assalam, multilingual Anu! 😆 It's so interesting how diverse our group is—we have Malaysians, Pakistanis, Arabs, and now Bangladeshis too! 😂

I'd love to teach you Arabic, girl. Just say the word! 🤍

Haha, I wish! I had a little help from a translation tool. 🤭

Edit: I'm trying to surprise everyone by greeting them in their own language. It makes our group feel even more special. 🤍

Haha if you're referring to scenery and nature then maybe it is slightly close (especially with Okinawa). We also have many Japanese expatriate with some Japanese-esque shopping attraction. But when it comes to attitude and discipline, Malaysian are still behind in many aspects not only to Japan but maybe to many other developed countries. I'm happy that you have such high perception about our country though!

Ivy:
I hope I got that right. 😆

It's perfect!
