Noona (+ Notes)

Here I'll compile a list of noona titles I've watched and my notes on them in regards to the accuracy of the older woman/younger man dynamic. I'm still somewhat of a pleb when it comes to noona romance so this list will start out small.

I am aware that a lot of noona romance is made to be gratifying only and I'm not here to shame anyone who enjoys that or to anyone who relates to FLs like this, live your life, there's no shame in that. That being said, portraying an age gap dynamic only for the age gap to play no part is simply put, poor writing and I don't like it. I am tired of women being portrayed as immature idiots, even when it's most realistic for them not to be.

Here are the qualifications used:

  • Good Noona Rep = Mature FL/Immature ML (unless otherwise plot-relevant stuff that might mature someone quickly. This does not mean ML is bratty and/or dumb, just less experienced and has more of that boyish/youthful charm), FL already established in life and career, FL with past relationships, Hard-to-please FL - ML still figuring things out, juvenile/youthful MLs | Female led relationship
    • Not every high-ranking title will have all, but that's the ideal noona experience imo.
  • Bad Noona Rep = Immature FL/Mature ML, Virgin and/or loser FL, Broke/starting-out energy with FL, very unhappy FL - Hyper mature ML, very well-established ML | Male led relationship

Noona titles to check out.

  • Nothing but You

    1. Nothing but You

    Chinese Drama - 2023, 38 episodes

    7.0

Good Rep. This is what noona is all about. A proper age gap and a clear difference in how the characters behave. FL is established in her work and life, she is very skilled and dedicated but also feels stagnant due to having been at it for so long. Her priorities lie in taking the next step in life and feeling pressured to settle down due to her being in her 30s. ML is a hot-blooded youngster that still pulls juvenile stunts but has an honest and naive heart. He's still at the starting point of life and is constantly pressured to continue despite no longer feeling passionate about life. She's chill, he's passionate and they compliment each other very well!

Age Gap: 10 years (confirmed) | FL is 32, ML is 22

TLDR; Mature FL/Immature ML, FL already established in life and career, Hard-to-please FL - Men still figuring things out, Childish/juvenile-like ML | Female led relationship | ML chases FL first

  • Mad Doctor

    2. Mad Doctor

    Taiwanese Drama - 2022, 10 episodes

    8.5

Good Rep. Established surgeon turned deadbeat doctor FL x Super cute himbo small-town ML. I wouldn't really go as far as to say FL is mature but it's clear she's seen some stuff and lived. She has a career and is currently in the process of switching form it and has a jaded view of the world the likes uncommon in very young people. Meanwhile ML is a wide-eyed innocent boy, the son of the entire town. He sees the good in everything and still has that naïve hope xD

Age Gap: 10-15 years (estimated) | FL is likely in her mid to late 30s and ML is likely early to mid 20s.

TLDR; Mature FL/Immature ML, FL already established in life and career, Hard-to-please FL - ML still figuring things out, Childish/juvenile ML | ML chases FL first

    ^^^ Impression after 6eps

  • Shijukara

    3. Shijukara

    Japanese Drama - 2022, 12 episodes

    8.0

Good Rep. FL is well-established in her career for like 20 years, she has a husband and teenage son and despite marital issues is living a solid life. Meanwhile, ML is still figuring out what he wants, his focus set only on his 'revenge' mission. Though he's mature for his age due to trauma, it is still obvious that he's very young and his immaturity is a stark contrast with FL.

Age Gap: 18 years (confirmed) | FL is 40, ML is 22

TLDR: Mature FL, Immature ML (despite seeming more mature), FL already established in life and career, FL had past relationships, ML still figuring things out | ML chases FL first

  • Please Love Me

    4. Please Love Me

    Chinese Drama - 2022, 24 episodes

    7.0

Good Rep. Overall very solid noona rep. It's a low budget comedy so it's not as great as it could've been but FL is a CEO with her life figured out. She's mature, collected, grounded, and goal oriented while ML is an up and coming model, very eager to please and quite cutely immature. Their dynamic is great

Age Gap: 5 years (confirmed) | FL is 28, ML is 23

TLDR; Mature FL/Immature ML, FL already established in life and career, FL with past relationships, Hard-to-please FL - ML still figuring things out, Childish/juvenile-like ML | Female led relationship

  • Run On

    5. Run On

    Korean Drama - 2020, 16 episodes

    9.0

Pretty Good Rep. Secondary couple. SFL is a well-established CEO who takes no bullshit and can even be considered mean while SML is a bubbly and broke asf art student desperately seeking out her attention.

Age Gap: 5-10 years (estimated) | Ages not confirmed

TLDR; Mature SFL/Immature SML, SFL already established in life and career, Hard-to-please SFL - SML still figuring things out, Childish/juvenile-like SML | Female led relationship | ML chases FL first

  • Nagatan to Aoto: Ichika no Ryourijou

    6. Nagatan to Aoto: Ichika no Ryourijou

    Japanese Drama - 2023, 10 episodes

    8.0

Pretty Good Rep. I loved how both characters were written to make sense in the time period it is set but still be mature (FL) and immature (ML), respectively. FL is a bit jaded, very used to her role in society as a widow. She has big ambitions and does strive for them but being in her mid 30s, she doesn't aim too high either. Meanwhile ML has the youthful mentality of craving change and not being limited by society. He's definitely mature for his age but you can tell he isn't just an old man in a young body, but rather a mature young man.

Age gap: 15 years (confirmed) | FL is 34, ML is 19

TLDR: FL already established in life and career, FL with past relationship, Hard-to-please FL- ML still figuring things out, juvenile (but still quite mature) ML| Historical Noona.

  • Damn! I'm Tempted

    7. Damn! I'm Tempted

    Chinese Drama - 2024, 40 episodes

    7.0

Pretty Good Rep. FL is mature, calm, and collected. She knows what she wants, how to get it an goes for it. She doesn't act on impulse and is very accomplished in her career. Meanwhile ML is the embodiment of a brat: spoiled, immature, but kind-hearted. I do think some of their differences definitely come from their upbringing (ML being an heir and FL having grown up poor) but the age gap plays a part too imo. ML calls FL 'jie jie' but it's never confirmed what age they are.

Age Gap: 3-7 years (estimated) | Ages not confirmed. The leads met when they were children and ML look noticeably younger.

TLDR: Mature FL, Immature ML, FL already established in life and career, Hard-to-please FL - ML still figuring things out, Childish/juvenile-like ML | FL led relationship

  • Fake Love

    8. Fake Love

    Chinese Drama - 2024, 63 episodes

    7.0

Pretty Good Rep. This drama is similar to Destined to Love You but better in its noona portrayal. FL is an established CEO. She is strong, independent, and mature. Meanwhile ML is a poor bartender whom she takes in as her sugar baby. He's sweet, bubbly, and so incredibly cute.

Age Gap: 3-7 years (estimated) | Ages not confirmed, I don't believe their age gap is that significant but ML does call FL 'jie jie' (older sister).

TLDR; Mature FL/Immature ML, FL already established in life and career, FL with past relationships, Hard-to-please FL - ML still figuring things out, Childish/juvenile-like ML | Female led relationship

  • Shufu Maison

    9. Shufu Maison

    Japanese Drama - 2021, 6 episodes

    7.5

Quite Alright Rep. 3rd arc follows an older woman and younger man dynamic. This one was quite tasteful. FL is at a different point in her life, focused on her work and career while ML still has that wide-eyed wonder and longing for puppy love. Surprisingly well-done

    Age Gap: tbd

TLDR; Mature FL/Immature ML, FL already established in life and career, Hard-to-please FL - ML still figuring things out, Childish/juvenile-like ML | Female led relationship

  • Beautiful Vampire

    10. Beautiful Vampire

    Korean Movie - 2018

    7.0

Not Bad Rep. Another vampire age gap. This one was okay. They did try to make FL more mature, jaded and done-with-life in contrast with the VERY bubbly and carefree ML but it was still somewhat lacking

Age Gap: under 500-ish (estimated) | FL is over 500, ML is early 20s (estimated).

TLDR; Mature FL/Immature ML, Hard-to-please FL - ML still figuring things out, Childish/juvenile-like ML | ML chases FL first

  • Joosama ni Sasagu Kusuriyubi

    11. Joosama ni Sasagu Kusuriyubi

    Japanese Drama - 2023, 6 episodes

    7.0

Not Bad Rep. This one was cute, definitely not great rep but not bad either. FL is an office worker and ML is a college student. He definitely nailed the cutesy lil brother role, wanting to impress her and being flustered and FL was a bit shy and insecure but that is still possible in your 30s and otherwise she was more composed and mature.

    Age Gap: Will check

TLDR; Mature FL/Immature ML, FL already established in life and career, FL with past relationships, Hard-to-please FL - ML still figuring things out, Childish/juvenile-like ML

  • Fist & Faith

    12. Fist & Faith

    Chinese Movie - 2017

    7.0

Okay, but... The noona rep is quite alright. FL is more mature and composed while ML is a try-hard wanting to win her favour... unfortunately she's an adult and he's in highschool soooo

    Age Gap: Will check

    ✖ Adult/Minor

TLDR; Mature FL/Immature ML, FL already established in life and career, Childish/juvenile-like ML

  • Destined to Meet You

    13. Destined to Meet You

    Chinese Drama - 2022, 20 episodes

    7.5

Bad Rep. FL is the classic late 20s-30-something little girl. God, she was unbearable. Save for a handful of moments where she behaves in a competent manner, she was just an irritating bossy little girl. ML was fairly standard ML- a little bratty but otherwise weirdly mature and composed.

Age Gap: 5-10 years (estimated) | FL is late 20s-early 30s, ML is early 20s

TLDR; FL already established in life and career, FL with past relationships, Hard-to-please FL - ML still figuring things out

  • The Sweet Blood

    14. The Sweet Blood

    Korean Drama - 2021, 15 episodes

    5.5

Bad Rep. FL is allegedly over 100 years old but she's still in high school and behaves as such.

Age Gap: 101 years (close estimate) | FL is 118, ML is still in HS so 17 the oldest.

    ✖ Adult/Minor

    TLDR; None

  • Toshishita Kareshi

    15. Toshishita Kareshi

    Japanese Drama - 2020, 20 episodes

Ep 1: 4 years age gap (ML 19, FL 23) - Mature FL, Childish ML. She's quite a bit more grounded than him.
Ep 2: 1 year age gap? (ML ?, FL 18) - Mature FL, immature ML but not by much tbh. She just seems more aware of those around her
Ep 3: Seems to be about a year (ML 16, FL 17?) - Cute, pouty ML, slightly more mature FL.
    Ep 4: 1 year (ML 21, FL 22) - Cold FL/Warm ML.
    Ep 5: 7 years (ML 19, FL 26)
    Ep 14: 4 years (ML 25, FL 29)

Dropped 'cause 1 year is not an age gap.

  • Ni Shi Wo Wei Yi De Xin Dong

    16. Ni Shi Wo Wei Yi De Xin Dong
