  • Drama Festa: Hello Dracula

    101. Drama Festa: Hello Dracula

    Korean Special - 2020, 2 episodes

    9.0

There is a level of understanding to be given to those who have wronged you. And then there is understanding that you did nothing wrong.

When we've struggled because we've been blamed, misunderstood, ignored, and hurt, how comforting would it have been to have heard: You did nothing wrong. They are the ones who are wrong.

  • Run On

    102. Run On

    Korean Drama - 2020, 16 episodes

    Putting it here for now.

These two were so quirky and sarcastic. Luckily, I liked their kind of quirky :) The dry humor may not be to everyone's taste, but I certainly enjoyed it.

The ML was generally pleasant and kind-hearted. Actually, he was almost kind to a fault. His chemistry with the FL very much reminded me of Record of Youth. The FL was confident as well as romantically awkward, which is probably why she went so well with him. Lol. I adored how her being with him helped him be emotionally vulnerable. Seeing him openly cry and having her be the one to pull him in for a hug truly moved me.

I loved how easy this drama was, that the relationship was equal and they were their own individual person within it, and the conflicts were minimal or solved within one episode. Even the side couple was a joy to watch, though more for comedic purposes.

Admittedly, I started this drama because of the Nice Male Lead tag. I've been getting sick of watching cold jerkish MLs who despite being douchebags get the naïve FL to fall for them and never apologize for their behavior and/or have redemption arcs that don't fully redeem them, so I've been combing through dramas to find some actually good and not-controlling MLs. I was very happy to find that here.

Regarding Representation: This did such an amazing job! There was representation and acknowledgement of LGBT+ people all over! We had an Asexual character, a Gay character, a background Gay couple, a love interest not writing off someone not being Straight, and acknowledgement of wrongly using the community for one's own benefit when one is not a part of it and so does not experience the hardships associated with it.

  • One More Time

    103. One More Time

    Korean Drama - 2016, 8 episodes

    8.5

First off, the music is great. Like, really great. The story and ML is often harsh and sad but also quite uplifting.

The way it describes and shows the feelings and experience of depression and suicidal ideation is scarily accurate. This feeling of emptiness and wishing away time. Going from from passively living to actively wanting to die.

It also showed a realistic portrayal of love for many people. The beginning is exciting and wonderful and it continues for a while until life dulls and your love dulls with it. Unless you discover and feel that love again and come to realize why you felt it to begin with.

  • Blue Birthday

    104. Blue Birthday

    Korean Drama - 2021, 16 episodes

    8.5

A really good time travel drama that was also a rollercoaster of emotions for me. It hurt to see the reality of what was happening behind the scenes. It's a mystery with small twists and hidden Easter eggs that make all the difference but it also feels like a tragedy at many points. Very much affected me.

  • Law School

    105. Law School

    Korean Drama - 2021, 16 episodes

It was just a really good crime drama. Makes me want to jump back into (believe it or not) one of my favorite genres more.

  • Abyss

    106. Abyss

    Korean Drama - 2019, 16 episodes

    9.0

This was an interesting story. Some plot points could have been done better, but I was engaged until the end. The villains were also annoyingly clever.

The ML and FL were on the level of Strong Woman Do Bong Soon cute together. Like, cheek-pinching cute. I swear!

I quite liked how it wasn't purely a romance (it took a backseat to the action/mystery) but they were there for each other through every danger. And, the ML was particularly thoughtful and supportive. This man deserves the world!

  • Reply 1997

    107. Reply 1997

    Korean Drama - 2012, 16 episodes

    9.0

Came for the rep but was interested to see what else it had to offer.

This did a great job at managing to capture a nostalgic feeling of one's youth. Also, I particularly liked how none of the characters were glamorized as being perfect or "too cool." They were out-there but still sort of realistic. And seeing the 90s tech and fashion was just amusing. All in all, I was entertained every episode. It felt like a sitcom.

    Regarding Representation:

How do I tell you what I think without spoiling it? Other than telling you it was unexpectedly amazing! They didn't play into my expectations. The character was not like what I thought they might be and the way they were treated comforted a place deep inside of me. I summarized my thoughts much better with spoilers in my Korean LGBT+ list. Lol. I'll link it here if you're curious: https://kisskh.at/list/10dyNPa1

  • Life

    108. Life

    Korean Drama - 2018, 16 episodes

    9.0

    Maybe here?

This was refreshing. It just jumped right into it. You quickly realize there will be no hand-holding and very little leading.

Different. That's how I would describe the experience of watching this. It was a serious drama. Not in the way of intense romance, love triangles, physical fights, or big twists though. In fact, I didn't feel as if they shoe-horned in anything unnecessarily. I wasn't able to point out anything that was added in to drag out the runtime. It uses its time to seriously show the difficulty/horror of being a health care worker and the challenges and in-fights between hospital owners and staff, as well as carefully thread a message that becomes clear only at the end.

What sticks with me even now is the uncomfortableness they managed to make me feel by showing the "bad guy" show some humanity. I felt this "wrongness" from it, as if he didn't have the right to. But that is how people are. They aren't as easy to categorize into good and evil as we would like them to be.

And, the message. The ending isn't satisfying. It doesn't have a true "conclusion" as it were. It seems to say, "This is what life is." You get by, you face a fight, you manage to get your head above water, you find something to brighten your day, and the cycle repeats. One stumbling block is dealt with, only for another to come down the road. We struggle and we smile, alone and with others.

Did some part of me want the easy satisfying ending with a pretty bow on top? Of course. But it was a realistic ending. And one I didn't mind. Because, this is life.

  • One Spring Night

    109. One Spring Night

    Korean Drama - 2019, 32 episodes

    9.0

Something sort of magical about this. It feels like leaving your doorstep and stepping onto the sidewalk, chewing a stick of mint gum and breathing out, and watching the cloud of smoke disappear amidst the snow.

Side Note: I docked one point for the irritation I felt from the intense family pressure.

  • Healer

    110. Healer

    Korean Drama - 2014, 20 episodes

    9.0

This was great! The action and stunts were well-done and exciting. Even though the plot got weird later and the ending was just sort of there, I really enjoyed this.

The ML and FL were both a lot of fun. They were each the right combination of quirky and real. And, together, they were sweet and understanding. They really had me thinking they were going to drag out a conflict annoyingly. But, they didn't. There was actual trust and listening.

All in all, I definitely see why this is such a popular drama.

  • Nobody Knows

    111. Nobody Knows

    Korean Drama - 2020, 16 episodes

    9.5

This FL consumed the screen. I know this is a strange word to describe a person, but she is such a full-bodied character. When she speaks you can tell she's truly thought it through. Her words and actions have an indescribable weight to them.

A bit off-topic: Not gonna lie; I simped so hard for her. The hair, the boots, the intelligence, the strong will . . . She was just . . . everything.

The "grand scheme" of the drama was undeniably over the top. But, at the same, it could be quite grounded.

The villains were this drama's weakest point. Too often they were cartoonish and made ridiculous decisions that were to their own detriment. Its strongest point was its characters and their motivations/emotions (tagged along to that is the amazing acting, of course). What made me put off finishing the last two episodes for about a month was my desire to wait until I had the proper amount of time to savor the richness of the characters. Seeing the wide range of emotions that would flit across someone's face within seconds left me in awe.

Would I recommend this drama? Definitely! I would just tell you to keep your expectations moderate and not to binge-watch it.

  • Move to Heaven

    112. Move to Heaven

    Korean Drama - 2021, 10 episodes

    9.5

This drama was uniquely engaging as each episode not only perfectly functioned on its own but also worked to tell an overarching story.

By the end, I found myself sniffling, barely keeping it together clutching my hands trying to keep the tears at bay.

    Regarding Representation:
It was as good as I had heard. No, I am NOT spoiling it!

Do I recommend it? Absolutely! Just . . . Find yourself a private room and get not only a bag of popcorn but a box of tissues ready.

Side Note: Not sure if anyone has heard of this game, but it really reminded me of the Blackwell series: Learning about those who died and respectfully handling what they left behind.

  • Mother

    113. Mother

    Korean Drama - 2018, 16 episodes

    9.0

This was both heartbreaking and uplifting.

A woman sees herself in a young girl and instinctively reaches her hand out and becomes a mother. We learn of ties that can never be severed, how deep abuse can run, how cycles repeat, and the painful sacrifices that are made for one's child.

"Family," and more specifically, "Mom," can be as wide or small a net as you like.

The individual must first work to live up to that title, though.

  • Happiness

    114. Happiness

    Korean Drama - 2021, 12 episodes

    9.5

Forget being called Happiness! It should be called Craziness! Because I swear to God 99% of the characters were 100% annoying, greedy, punchable lunatics.

This being said, the title does make sense. It's about finding a bit of happiness/holding onto happiness when things feel hopeless in a crazy world. It was surprisingly rather uplifting.

  • Be Melodramatic

    116. Be Melodramatic

    Korean Drama - 2019, 16 episodes

    9.0

    This was brilliantly meta.

  • The Judge from Hell

    117. The Judge from Hell

    Korean Drama - 2024, 14 episodes

    9.0

This was a hell of a watch!

Justitia is a fiery demon with power enough to weave her twisted punishments so as to leave sinners trembling in fear (and leave me in awe).

Each case and kill she tackled in her mission was a bloody rollercoaster that tested my will to forsake my morality.

Her meeting and connection to the "innocent" Han Da On was like the meeting of a wild wolf and a neighborhood dog. It was intimate yet twisted. A small spark of conscience and the planting of a grey seed.

At the end of it all, even when Justitia found passion for being a judge and doing some good, I was quite relieved to see she didn't lose who she was: a demon.

If they were to release a second season, I would certainly tune in!

  • Circle

    118. Circle

    Korean Drama - 2017, 12 episodes

    9.0

    Real Sci-Fi, indeed!

This drama did a great job of playing with your expectations, shifting focus, and keeping the protagonists in the past and present engaging. Not to mention, the leads had their backs against the wall and were forced to walk into life-threatening situations time and again, making it believable that they could get eliminated at any time., which truly made the stakes feel high.

Everything was answered in the end, really, except Byul's origins. Where did she come from? What exactly is she?

In the grand scheme of things, though, I'm okay with not knowing, as I can imagine for myself.

  • Are You Human Too?

    119. Are You Human Too?

    Korean Drama - 2018, 36 episodes

    9.0

This wonderful robot and his wonderful girlfriend deserve the world. Going into this, I didn't think I would fall head over heels for this relationship, nor the ML. But I am thrilled to have been proven wrong. I will warn you that the side characters will drive you mad at many points; you'll just have to trust me that these two are enough to get you through it.

  • Moment at Eighteen

    120. Moment at Eighteen

    Korean Drama - 2019, 16 episodes

    8.5

I think I'll put it around here.

Such a down-hearted and sweet ML. He's such a good-natured person that he sometimes lets things slide or doesn't stand up for himself enough when he should though. But, he is true to himself and his morals, and he does stand up in his own way later on.

The big "misunderstanding" was annoying but the payoff was perfect. The lesson was genuinely learned and the FL was apologetic and did better afterward.

This was a teen drama but also a sort of heavy slice-of-life. It's slow, but purposefully so. These are teenagers dealing with typical problems/more serious problems but also bigger things out of their control that they shouldn't have to face. It covers emotional/physical abuse, overdemanding and anxiety-inducing parental pressure, divorce, child abandonment, a form of self-harm, peer pressure, a victim choosing for themself how they handle things, bullying, etc.

It's about being more present in life, realizing what you can and can't control, and accepting what is and isn't your fault. Parental pressure and abuse is never the fault of the victim, but maliciously taking out that pain on others is. And you can understand why someone would act that way because of their horrible environment but it doesn't mean you condone or forgive the behavior. Life circumstances can get in the way of us and being with our loved ones, but it doesn't mean the relationship is lost.

We do the best we can and we still struggle. But there are moments to cherish in our past and moments to look forward to in the future.

  • Squid Game

    123. Squid Game

    Korean Drama - 2021, 9 episodes

    9.5

I genuinely don't know where to put it on this list.

Well . . . It was emotionally destroying.

What could I possibly say about this that hasn't already been said?

It was horrifyingly too real. Dammit human nature. Dammit.

  • Squid Game Season 2

    124. Squid Game Season 2

    Korean Drama - 2024, 7 episodes

    9.5

Yet again, we witness the exploitation of the lower classes and the extent of human greed and desperation. This season felt more hopeful, though. That maybe they have a chance. That some will say enough is enough and fight this shit.

These games aren't just an entertaining show; they're an experiment. A way for the game master to prove that humans when presented with a gamble, will make the wrong choice: sacrifice others to save their skin. Prove him wrong!

  • Squid Game Season 3

    125. Squid Game Season 3

    Korean Drama - 2025, 6 episodes

    9.5

This season felt almost more terrifying than the last. Hitting play on the first episode, deep within me, I felt that all hope was already lost. That all these people I cared about wouldn't make it. And still . . . I hoped, I begged, and feared for them.

"Let them all make it, somehow. Let these cruel people somehow see the light and end this twisted game. Someone, come and save them and put a stop to this."

But Squid Game and life are not so kind.

"Do you still have faith in people?"

I'd like to think that there are more Hyeon Ju's, Jun Hui's, Geum Ja's, and Gi Hun's in the world than I think. That their very existence makes a difference. That time and knowledge can one day bring about a better society than the one of today.

    I'd like to think that.

It was as weird as I thought it would be. It was a bloody and sweaty fever dream where when you finally wake up from it you are only left wondering what the hell just happened.

    Do I recommend it?

    I have no idea, Jagiya.

  • My Dearest Part 2

    127. My Dearest Part 2

    Korean Drama - 2023, 11 episodes

    9.0

What a journey this took me on. These people became my people, and I feared for them, wept for them, and rejoiced for them.

While watching My Dearest, I tried to piece together the reason for the frenzy at the time of its airing. For me, what stood out the most were the characters themselves and seeing them make their way through the harsh realities of war as well as dealing with the aftermath. I admired their tremendous growth and courage.

I would liken my experience watching this drama to that of attempting to patiently wait for my lover who's at war, all the while in a constant state of worry, even with letters pouring in assuring me.

    Criticism Portion:

While the romance was by no means "terrible," I couldn't connect to the main couple nor see the amount of chemistry between them that others did. However, because I grew to care for the ML and FL as individuals, luckily, this did not dampen my watching experience in the end.

All this being said, I believe I now understand why My Dearest left such a mark on viewers. It certainly left one on me.

  • Under the Queen's Umbrella

    130. Under the Queen's Umbrella

    Korean Drama - 2022, 16 episodes

    9.0

Beyond the political schemes, betrayals, alliances, romances, comedic sub-plots, and twists was the heartrending story of a woman who is a mother to her core.

Humorous as the queen could be, she was born to be held in high regard. I commend the actress portraying her as she truly outdid herself. There is a resilience and beautifully measured restraint evident in how she carries herself, her posture, tone of voice, and gaze. It all speaks of wisdom, kindness, calculation, and tenacity. Her pride and pain, as a mother, to dutifully keep her children safe under her always outstretched wings, whether wind, snow, fire, or rain.

I admired how deeply and expressively she cared for and protected them and their peace.

Did the drama drag near the end? Absolutely. But this queen of a queen made getting through it worth it.

    Recommended.

  • Her Private Life

    131. Her Private Life

    Korean Drama - 2019, 16 episodes

    8.5

I think it belongs around here.

I would have given this a 9/10, but they threw in some unnecessary twists near the end that just weren't impactful.

That being said, I very much enjoyed this. It was light-hearted, and the relationship was refreshing and healthy. There is no big misunderstanding near the end that drives them apart. Once they are officially together they stay together and support each other.

The ML is great! He's an LGBT+ ally and an encouraging and thoughtful boyfriend. Enough said. The FL is a working woman with a thoughtful mind and open heart. She loves her life, idol, family, friends, and boyfriend sincerely and earnestly.

Together, they are a well-matched couple who lean on one another and respect one another. Just, lovely.

  • Extraordinary Attorney Woo

    133. Extraordinary Attorney Woo

    Korean Drama - 2022, 16 episodes

    8.5

First off, the effects were so creative and enchanting! As far as how well it portrayed a person on the autism spectrum, I can't completely say. It's an area I'm not the most familiar with. From my own personal point of view, I think they were respectful. Woo Young was an incredibly amusing FL, but not because of her autism, rather because of her personality. They also didn't try to overcorrect and make her perfect; they gave her real flaws and weaknesses.

A lot of people complained about how the ML was a one-dimensional character only there to serve as the love interest. I don't feel like we needed more of his background though because the drama was centered around Woo Young's life and growth, not around her falling in love (so, naturally, he would take a backseat in the story). This was an episodic slice-of-life drama, not a romance drama.

I really enjoyed this. It was light and fun.

  • Mr. Queen

    135. Mr. Queen

    Korean Drama - 2020, 20 episodes

    8.5

This would be getting a 9/10 from me if not for the ending.

What I loved about this is that no matter if the actual plot in a particular episode didn't intrigue me I could always fall back on the humor. This was a good choice for a fun drama to watch :)

Regarding Representation: I definitely don't think Jang Bong Hwan is Straight. I feel hesitant to give him a specific label though. If you were to press me for an answer . . . I would say Queer would probably be what he would be most comfortable calling himself.

  • Kill Me, Heal Me

    136. Kill Me, Heal Me

    Korean Drama - 2015, 20 episodes

    8.5

I loved its unique style at times. Particularly with the intro.

The ML was incredibly kind and an absolute sweetheart. You could tell within the first five minutes or so.

One of the biggest strengths of this drama was how each of the personalities were so distinct. You could tell by the way their eyes looked and how they carried themselves that they weren't Cha Do Hyun. The actor, Ji Sung, did such a great job acting as so many different people! I have to commend him. Yo Sub was by far my favorite personality despite how little he appeared. He was the most tragic and complicated. I felt a great deal during his introduction.

The romance was enjoyable and though Oh Ri Jin was quite wacky I liked her as the FL.

The reason why I'm not rating this higher is because of two things. One, the characters repeat things way too many times. It felt like writers were worried our attention span was too small to remember what important plot point/detail was revealed ten minutes before. Tacked onto that is also how because things were repeated so often the length of the episodes could feel draining due to how unnecessary it was. And, two, the story got too messy near the end. It felt like they were throwing other drama in for the sake of it.

But, overall, I'm glad I finally watched this. It was a very healing drama and I very much appreciated how for once the message wasn't that we are obligated to forgive those who do us wrong.

  • Gray Shelter

    137. Gray Shelter

    Korean Drama - 2024, 5 episodes

    8.5

It's all empty space and frustratingly suffocating. Like wearing a wool turtleneck on a winter's day. You ache and long to tear the thing off, but it's just so bitterly cold.

The intro itself was a work of art. There and throughout the drama, I particularly appreciated the use of shadows and temperature. Not to mention, the actors did an amazing job. I found myself so weighed down by their emotions I felt like I was sinking.

I found the conclusion both unique and fitting. It ended with an understanding: We need to be on equal footing first, independent of each other, to sort through these muddled thoughts and feelings. Then, perhaps, we can . . .

  • She Would Never Know

    138. She Would Never Know

    Korean Drama - 2021, 16 episodes

    8.5

Logically, I know they didn't do anything truly incredible. On the surface, this story has been told before. However, I found a surprising amount of emotional depth here.

From the beginning, with a shared pain, the leads are able to see through the other in a way others aren't able to, hear the words they're not saying. Before they even got together, the connection between them felt earned.

The way Hyun Seung approached Song Ah not just with good intentions but with a level of sincerity most men would not dare to show. He didn't play games, beat around the bush, or do things in half-measures; he loved honestly and fully, even when he had no hope or was given less in return. It was truly refreshing to see a ML take a chance with his whole heart.

I also appreciated the showcasing of a mature as well as flawed working woman FL. Song Ah put her career first and love life second. Some may say this made her selfish. However, she knew how she prioritized these aspects of her life, and rather than attempt to be someone she wasn't, she was honest with herself and Hyun Seung, made her goals clear, and took accountability for her shortcomings. And knowing herself as a person who struggled to express her feelings, she took steps to push through the blocks in her mind as well as make efforts suited to her affection style.

I felt I learned and grew with these two. I'm so glad the rep made me check She Would Never Know out!

Side Note: Can we talk about the respect Hyun Seung had for Song Ah?! He didn't take things into his own hands to remove her from a potentially dangerous situation. He respected her agency, stood to the side, and asked, "Do you want me to?"

    Korean Drama - 2025, 8 episodes

    8.5

Not gonna lie, I think they kind of knocked it out of the park with this one. Not a home run, but still. And I did NOT see it coming at all!

I did find the actor playing Ji Won to be lacking compared to Jeong U, but Jeong U was a bit of a powerhouse in comparison and had a lot of material to work with thanks to his well-written dialogue, so perhaps it's not fair of me to judge too harshly. Can't say I didn't notice it on many occasions, though.

The chemistry and bold flirting between the MLs? Nothing short of insane! Jeong U kicked his sexuality crisis in the face and embraced his feelings for shy, anxious bean Ji Won head-on. And Ji Won could be kind of shameless without even realizing it, which I loved for him.

And the biggest conflict between the leads, while frustrating, made sense given past traumas/experiences and one lead's tendency to shut down instead of communicate. Even the SMLs who seemed insignificant in the beginning made a comeback later on and contributed to the narrative in a meaningful way.

Not to mention, the drama as a whole was downright clever, hilarious, and cute af. I had a great time watching it!

So, yes, I recommend it, kind of a lot. Especially compared to other lesser fare K-BLs we've gotten so far this year (excluding Secret Relationships, of course, because that was a masterpiece).

Side Note: I was gagged at their kissing scenes in the finale because DAMN did they deliver on a silver platter! Like, seriously, wow!

  • Love Scout

    140. Love Scout

    Korean Drama - 2025, 12 episodes

    8.5

Refreshing but lacking, that's how I would describe this drama.

The role reversal was simply delightful, and having two mature, working leads dealing with life's challenges and a romantic relationship in a truly mature manner was such a pleasant experience as a viewer. This ML and FL felt like two well-rounded people who had been around the block, knew what they wanted, and didn't plan on beating around the bush. And even though they had their challenges once they got together, they were a united front.

Where this drama fell short was not delivering on its initial set-up: Eun Ho is a single father. We learn about what he has sacrificed for his daughter and his commitment to prioritizing her, but as the drama went on, her presence in his life and the potential challenges of balancing work/romance with a child in the picture got pushed to the back burner. I think this was because they wanted to push the romance rather than the family angle; it felt like a major oversight/wasted opportunity if you ask me.

I was giddy and swooned like most others watching it, but I just wanted more and felt disappointed that I didn't get it.

But, by the end she comes to realize that she was great from the start and learns to not take the comments and expectations of others to heart.

This was such a lively and "homely" drama. It really felt like being in a small neighborhood where everyone not only knows everyone but knows everyone's business. People you can comfortably play games with and curse, laugh, and cry with.

While the set-up was by no means original, the FL's repeated "forced helplessness" got to be a bit much, and the "villains" ranged from somewhat interesting to mildly irritating; Yeon's charming personality and selfless nature, complicated but enduring bond with his brother Rang, and fun back and forth banter with Ji Ah, entertaining fight scenes, and memorable side characters, made up for it all.

I will note that I found this a rare case where a K-Drama with a weaker middle managed to bring it all to the table during the finale with one emotional gut punch after another. Of course, with a fantastic cast such as this, it should be expected.

I may just have to reach for season two to see more of this red-headed, mint-choco fanatic in action.

It was very easy and enjoyable, with a great deal of heart. The ML was sarcastic and incredibly sweet, and the Fl's Best Friend was just everything. Lol.

Not to mention, the artwork was gorgeous! Also, I loved how they used the short ending scenes every episode to show her old relationship slowly falling apart as well as signs of their break-up. It contrasted well with her new relationship blossoming and being better than when she was with her ex.

I liked the concept. It wasn't the most out-there or groundbreaking, but it had enough of a twist to make it at least a little bit special.  Also the characters and their actions felt very natural in this. I didn't feel like any conflict or misunderstanding was forced or out of place.

  • Failing in Love

8/10. I think my main complaints start to occur in the last two episodes. I don't want to give any spoilers about those as the last two episodes are quite important. So, I'll just talk about the things I liked.

The friendship dynamic between all the leads was unique from what I've seen before. Also, the way they called out Homophobia at many points was good to see. Having one of the characters actually say that someone's sexuality isn't peoples business and they shouldn't gossip about it and that it shouldn't matter if they weren't straight anyway was so refreshing.

The thing that was truly jaw-dropping and unique about this drama was this: Most of the main leads have chemistry with each other. All of them. It's strange how easy it was for them to achieve that. I actually found myself shipping literally everyone with everyone. My goodness. That was kind of a first for me.

The people who made this knew how to create convincing chemistry between people.

Up until almost the end I was unsure as to who the final couple or couples would end up being.

The end was a bit disappointing for me. But, I understand why they made that choice. Up until the last two episodes I almost rated this a 9/10 or even a 9.5/10. Oh well. I still really enjoyed this though. A pretty solid 8/10 from me.

It's definitely a quality drama. The team behind it cared about what they were making, and you could tell. They had a specific style in mind, evident from the color palette. Jung Woo's world is listless, drained, and hollow. And so the world we see is made of muted colors, conversations go round and round, and the days seem to repeat.

I found the commentary on passiveness and possessiveness interesting, as well as the under-the-radar—at least to the character—manipulation (you could see how, over time, one would give in).

Something just felt missing. I can't put a name to it. And I wanted more of the love-triangle aspect. The trailers and teasers made it seem like it would play a significant role. Unfortunately, we were fooled.

They really do show and talk about "things that are not talked about on Korean television." Not just sexuality/sexual orientation (he also actually says he's gay and is in no uncertain terms "confused") but also drug use,  ADHD, rebellion and the impulsiveness of youth, etc.

I think it belongs around here.

For the most part, I really enjoyed it. It did a pretty decent job at showing the K-Pop industry in a balanced light, not shying away from the negatives.

We put our Idols on a pedestal and forget they're human. Granted, very talented humans. They smile for the camera when it's the last thing they want to do, they work their asses off practicing, they diet, aspects of their personal life are religiously controlled (depending on the company), and their fans can be their supporters or their worst enemy.

Regardless if you've seen this drama or not, if you're a K-Pop fan take this time to remind yourself to not be "one of those" fans. You shouldn't have a problem with your bias dating or marrying someone. You shouldn't leave an unnecessary hate comment. You shouldn't push a ship in their face. You shouldn't disregard their mental health. You shouldn't criticize their appearance. You shouldn't pounce on them at the slightest thing but step back and look at the situation.

    Lecture over.

The plot did get a bit off track later on, but the characters were solid enough to pull it through for me. The ML was prickly but quickly turned into a softie. And the FL was cute and determined. I liked their chemistry together too.

Overall, I enjoyed this and I'm glad I took the time to watch it.

I liked how it talked about sexual frustration as well as women's concerns when it comes to sex.

It really tackles all the things K-Dramas ignore. Periods as well as health concerns related to them, the concerns and excitement around having sex for the first time, worries about unplanned pregnancy, men who don't take pregnancy seriously and don't want to use condoms, shame around discussing sex, trust and doubt of one's partner, etc, etc, etc.

Also, just how people have different paces in relationships. Some may want to have sex before dating and some may want to wait until they're official. Some may be okay jumping right into it, and some may be nervous and want to take their time.

They are very different, but all are okay as long as you and your partner are on the same page.

It's refreshing to see a female-centric drama. And what an awesome FL! Strong but vulnerable. Not impenetrable. Human.

The ML was wonderful! He was respectful of the FL's independence, wasn't pushy, and genuinely wanted the best for her whether she was with him or not. A good guy, not a "nice guy."

This was a down-to-earth yet also fantastical drama about cheating and revenge. Some scenes/lines were utterly unrealistic, but, God did they feel good.

And, the style? Just, wow! It was a joy to look at.

Regarding Representation: We had a Gay ML, Jung Deun (also called Jayden), the FL's best friend/roommate. His sexuality was easily shown and completely normalized.

For a majority of this drama it was like an overly emotional version of the "Well he looks at me, and I look at him. And he looks at me, and I look at him," except involving four people.

I mean that in the best way though.

I really liked how they connected the feelings of the characters to pieces of music and the musicians behind them. It added depth and almost made me feel like I was somehow seeing Clara, Robert, and Brahms brought to life.

    Maybe here?

I found myself strangely enchanted by this. The FL was so impulsive and expressive. She just let herself feel without holding back (the ML did too just not to the same extent).

I'm not too sure why liked this so much. Maybe it was refreshing to see adults vulnerable, childish, and at their lowest. There's this idea we get in our heads as children/teenagers that when you get older you figure everything out and are perfectly mature. But that's just a facade.

That teller you see at the bank doesn't know all the answers to your questions, they may very well in fact have started working there two weeks ago. Those stylish heels you see the girl in the checkout line wearing probably hurt her feet like a bitch but she's wearing them because she finds them so pretty. Strangers see complete authority and natural confidence when they meet your office manager, but they need someone to look over their emails for mistakes. The man you see pulled over at the side of the highway probably does not know what's wrong with his car and is about to call a tow.

Am I allergic to nickel? Yes. Do I wear necklaces and earrings with nickel anyway? I do. I put them on and proudly wear them at work only for a rash to appear on my neck by the evening that causes me to scratch and need to wear a high-collar shirt for the next few days.

I guess that's why I enjoyed this. It was comforting to see adults regularly screw up or make silly/stupid choices.

I feel they did a pretty good job exploring how the justice system doesn't always live up to the standard of innocent until proven guilty as we wish it would. The acting is what truly shined here though. The performances were on another level.

This was a very well-thought-out flipping of an almost tired story at this point. Having the focus be on the FL and her struggle to find avenues to make her own choices with the limited freedom she has in her situation, as well as her bond with her close friends, made for a fresh and mature experience. I valued my time spent with Deok Im. The relatable and, while jaded, never cruel, FL was definitely one of the highlights, along with the green flag ML so green he might as well have been a walking tree, and, of course, the sweet and supportive romance between the leads. It's a thoughtful piece. One that lingers in your mind, almost painfully. I felt I spent hours in a dazed melancholy, alone in a chilly room.

I'm not sure if it ended happily. If our leads have found peace. I think they finally cried out all their regrets, though, and they seem better for it.

Criticism: As much as I empathized with our leads, I have one major critique related to the FL. You're telling me she NEVER tried to make any friends while in Japan so she could spend time with someone other than her boyfriend? And then blamed him for her loneliness? It made me sympathize with her less as I felt like she never tried to do something about her loneliness herself. Not to mention, it's not healthy or fair to depend on your partner as your only source of social interaction.

However, with as difficult a final confrontation as this drama had, I was expecting more from the ending. Much as I found the political games and romance intriguing, I felt the length of each episode. Conversations dragged, and things seemed to go in circles as the end drew nearer. What motivated me to continue in spite of the filler was the FL. I found myself truly captured by her.

From the start, Dam Yi was swoon-worthy in every sense of the word. She gave back as good as she got and stood tall against those who would do her harm. Her courage, strength, and wisdom made her a prince and magnanimous ruler to admire. By the end, I wanted nothing more than for her to sit on the throne as herself to lead the people.

I found myself reminded a bit of The Red Sleeve. Here was another woman, trapped. But she worked to carve out a space of her own.

As for her romance with Jung Ji Woon, it was everything I hoped it would be: An interesting and complicated power dynamic with restrained as well as abrupt moments of affection.

I must say, as a gender bender, they really rose to the occasion. Not only was it convincing, but when the FL was found out by those closest to her, it didn't change how they viewed her. They still respected her authority.

Side Note: Since I have finally finished this drama, I can settle the debate in the comments section that drove me to madness when it was airing: Jung Ji Woon is Queer!!! And I quote,  " . . . For me, none of this changes anything. I'm still looking at the same person I was before. And that's all that matters. As long as I'm with you, nothing else really matters. Nothing."

This was so creative! The effects weren't the absolute best but they were interesting to see. And the ML was so fun! I kind of missed watching Fantasy.

When it comes to the story, it did get a bit out of hand during the last few episodes. However, I had a blast with this.

    Korean Drama - 2022, 12 episodes

It took me almost two years to hop on this classic but steamy K-Drama ride. I'm not sure if waiting till the hype died down was a benefit to my overall watching experience or not. Oh well, I'll never know. This is what happens when you don't watch a drama as it's airing.

This had seemingly all the markings of "peak" early 2010 K-Dramas: A Cool/Cold ML, a bubbly/silly FL, a SFL best friend attached to the hip of the FL who gets her in/out of trouble, and an initial meeting between the two leads—involving a misunderstanding/lie/argument of some kind that will most likely come up later—where they don't get along at first but are secretly intrigued by each other.

A Business Proposal had all of these while not only being more mature but improving in areas these past dramas lacked. First, let's address the elephant in the room: The kiss scenes. Because, damn, are they good! Do you know why they're SO good? Because both people are equally involved *claps* and look like they actually want to be there *claps* kissing *claps* with this person *claps* at this moment *claps in your face* Second, the side couple didn't just push plot points along but were involved and had their own storyline. In fact, they were so fun to watch I got SCS (Side Couple Syndrome)! Third, they didn't drag misunderstandings/conflicts on forever and actually had them deal with things in a reasonable amount of time.

My conclusion: 'Tis peak and ridiculously fun!

I really enjoyed the unpredictability of it, the ML's growth over time, the focus on trust and exploring emotions, and the deep bond between the ML and FL in their relationship.

However, in the back of my mind, I kind of wish things were more "twisted," so to speak. Maybe that's just me comparing this to "You," though.

Overall, I see why this was so well-liked, and I would recommend it if you're looking for an unconventional thriller.

Ellegance and grace amid violent distaste.

This was the kind of glamorous, stylized revenge plot I could really sink my teeth into. And not because it was perfectly planned out or revolutionary, because it wasn't. But it was the FL at the center of it all that was truly captivating. A wounded deer in fox skin who could bat her eyes and bend her spine to her will to be effortlessly alluring to predator/prey.

  • Marry My Husband

    181. Marry My Husband

    Korean Drama - 2024, 16 episodes

    8.5

Marry My Husband didn't break the mold, but it sure did capture attention, and rightfully so.
They really pull you in and keep you with the draw of comeuppance. "When are these pieces of shit going to get what's coming to them?!" "How cleverly and far can they be dragged down?"

What nearly rivals this, though, is seeing the FL blossom into a confident and resilient woman, willing to finally fight for herself. No longer a doormat or dying flower seeking small rays of "affection." Now, a person who commands the right to their own space and happiness.

If the idea of a melodramatic revenge K-Drama appeals to you, you should definitely give this one a try. I recommend it.

This was a meal I wasn't initially craving but wound up being quite satisfied by.

I didn't get immediate sparks between the ML and FL right away, but with time, through their continued dinners and conversations, I saw not only the playful flirting but also intimate atmosphere between them.

And while most everyone else around them was bouncing off the walls and/or actively sabotaging, they felt like a steady rock amid stormy seas. I appreciated how they discussed matters as a couple, and they knew when to put aside their disagreements and hesitancies to be there when they needed each other.

Altogether, this was a worthwhile watch.

  • Diary of a Prosecutor

    183. Diary of a Prosecutor

    Korean Drama - 2019, 16 episodes

    8.5

This was a very refreshing take on law and prosecutors that focused more on the mundane and connections made and lessons learned rather than the cases themselves.

I'm so used to seeing prosecutors being depicted in media as distant and intense, so seeing them as, for lack of a better word, "human" was a nice change of pace.

Altogether, it was a fairly unserious and light watch.

    8.0

Link to my review (because this darn word count is holding me back): https://kisskh.at/profile/8835865/reviews/345295

    Shorter version:

The Good Bad Mother: How true to its title. The mother in this drama is portrayed as having the best intentions for her son, wanting him to have power so as not to be hurt by others like she was. But while pushing him toward this goal, she indirectly and directly tells her son his life is not his own to live; he is being raised to fulfill a dream she couldn't.

Overall, I found this drama to be a genuinely healing experience. Through emotional gut punch after gut punch, this mother came to realize the full weight her abuse caused her son. When raising him, her intentional and painful choices were a gust of wind that would lead to a hurricane: The Butterfly Effect.

What ultimately held me back from rating this higher and embracing the message the drama was trying to convey was that I felt an in-depth, confrontational, and honest sit-down conversation with Kang Ho and his mother was sorely needed. Yes, she did apologize for many of her actions and express her regrets about how she raised her son, but, for me, I needed her to take 100% brutal accountability in person.

If you think humor would have no place in a story such as this, I don't think you'll enjoy watching this. I myself found many jokes out of place. Additionally, if you're not mentally in a place to handle watching scenes with parental abuse (including scenes where it is brushed aside or excused), I wouldn't recommend watching this. If you feel you can handle a topic like this and don't mind the mixing of serious with comedic, I think you'll find value in this.

    Attempted Summarized Version:

Putting the romance aside, this was an excellent business drama that provided a fascinating inside look into start-ups, their complexities, and their potential. I admired the perseverance and smart decisions of the characters in their journey to run successful companies with a vision

As for the romance, to be honest, I felt like I got played.

It truly felt cruel that Start-Up introduced such a compelling ML as Ji Pyung with a tragic beginning, built him up, and almost encouraged him to put himself out there (as though he had a chance with Dal Mi), only to sideline and discard him in the end. He's always left holding the bat, afraid to swing. Or, when he does make his feelings known, he steps aside for others. Why? Because they have to make room for the real love interest? What makes Do San a more fitting love interest?

I didn't believe a word of Ji Pyung's small speech saying he was not the boy from the letters. It felt like the writers, yet again, cruelly twisting his fate, making him say things he doesn't mean because he can't get the girl; he's not meant to.

I'm left feeling heartbroken for a man who deserved more when I should have been on cloud nine.

  • The Guardians

    188. The Guardians

    Korean Drama - 2017, 32 episodes

    8.0

When I first started watching The Guardians and caught onto the general plot, I predicted it would be like a less-good version of Taxi Driver. In many ways, I was right, but it also isn't entirely a fair comparison as while there are individual cases the team takes on to take someone down/expose them for their crimes, they aren't framed as separate stories to invest your time in for an episode or two but, instead, connecting threads all in the pursuit of an ultimate goal (most are kept in the dark about it, though).

I wasn't very impressed, to say the least, with who the final villain ended up being or the finale itself. For all the build-up and effort, I expected something grander/more explosive. Not to mention, everyone seemed to go in circles, and when you got down to it, it was just a massive shouting match.

These criticisms of mine being said, the characters themselves are what really sell this overwise clumsily put-together revenge drama. Every actor sunk their teeth into their role and not only made you buy what they were selling but also made you get as wrapped up in their emotions as they were (I assume the direction they were given also contributed to their performances being so convincing, so I do want to acknowledge that, too).

In particular, I want to praise ML Do Han, who was played by Kim Young Kwang. His two-faced bastard, willing to do just about anything to get ahead front, was nothing short of masterful.

It's not an excellent thriller in my book, but it's an entertaining, character-driven crime drama, at the very least.

    190. SKY Castle

    Korean Drama - 2018, 20 episodes

    8.0

The constant competition, pressure, and comparisons really created a steaming boiler for these children and their families.

How can one stand to live this way?

    Answer: They can't.

I wouldn't call this drama itself remarkable, but the turnaround made by its characters was.

To go from pushing an imagined "perfect" life/future onto your children and trying to make them believe it's what they want, too, to taking pride in the small moments you spend with them over their academic accomplishments and encouraging them to pace themselves . . . It felt like drawing a curtain back in a dark, lonely room and finally letting some sun in.

Did it get too dramatic at times, and were all loose ends tied up? No. But I think Sky Castle had something to say, and it said it well.

This oozed style, had a pretty cool FL, and was entertaining. However, I found the pacing off more often than not and the plot predictable. The camera would linger on shots ten or twenty seconds after they should have ended. If this was shorter I think it would have felt a lot more exciting. As far as the story, lines and twists weren't surprising, and some conflicts were repeated to the point of being annoying. Don't get me wrong; I had a good time. It's just a real shame since there was quite a bit of potential here.

  • Jazz for Two

    192. Jazz for Two

    Korean Drama - 2024, 8 episodes

    8.0

This drama and the characters truly shined the most in tension-filled moments where it felt as though all the air had been sucked out of the room. I also rather appreciated the consistency of the character's flaws/toxic behaviors, with there also being guilt and growth. Also, the fake-out conflict being resolved through thoughtful perspective and acceptance? Loved that. More not dragging things out for added drama and instead having a main lead think rationally, please!

Based on this drama's description, I expected less than average—to not be excited at the prospect of seeing the story progress. I was glad to find I could lose myself in Jazz for Two for a while.

All this praise aside, I wish the curtains closed more smoothly on this drama. At least ten extra minutes were desperately needed to tie up the side character's stories as well as allow a smoother transition as to where the main leads ended up. When the credits started rolling, I legit thought I was being punked. I was like, "Come on, there's got to be five more minutes left, right? Did I skip ahead?!"

All in all, I would recommend it. Just keep your expectations moderate.

  • Individual Circumstances

    195. Individual Circumstances

    Korean Drama - 2023, 8 episodes

    8.0

I kind of loved this. It was as if I was witnessing a short story being written, discussed, and eventually brought to life over the course of the drama. The color scheme was also fantastic and the acting bordered on great during key scenes. However, despite the MLs having wonderful chemistry all throughout, when it came time to deliver on showing physical affection, they failed. I find myself having to dock a full point for the kiss scene. And, here's the thing, it wasn't as though it was charming or realistically awkward: It just didn't work. I think I would prefer it if they didn't kiss at all rather than deliver something so disappointing and frame it as a romantic high point.

This leaves me feeling conflicted. While I would almost easily recommend this to others, I find myself sighing at its conclusion.

It's like returning home and going over vacation pictures and finding one where you're wearing a new outfit, standing in front of a gorgeous sunset, but at that exact moment when the picture was snapped the wind happened to blow your hair into your face and so while it is still a great memory and you will show it to family and friends your fingers will always itch as you so wish you could fix it by simply brushing your hair away.

  • Unintentional Love Story

    196. Unintentional Love Story

    Korean Drama - 2023, 10 episodes

    8.0

Not gonna lie, the first episode was kind of difficult to get through. The introduction of the premise and future conflict was so stereotypical that nearly every line could be predicted. But, it did grow on me, surprisingly. In particular, I liked the way they explored Won Young's realization of his sexuality. It was quite well-executed. And I also enjoyed the tension between the two MLs. Finally, I will say that I found the typical "turn" in the story to actually be fairly convincing and fitting for the characters rather than just a way to extend the length of the drama.

So, in short, this was sometimes charming, but nothing fantastic or note-worthy. Not necessarily a skip, but nothing to lose sleep or drop responsibilities for.

Oh, right! The side couple! Yeah, sorry, I forgot about them just like the drama.

Judging off of vibes alone? Immaculate. Wonderful. A rainy little cocoon I want to crawl into.

And the OST? Don't even get me started! It was so smooth and sentimental.

But, God, did it continue to be frustrating until the bitter end! They injected such toxic behaviors and people into the drama that they weighed everything sweet and positive about it down.

And, tragically, the FL herself was the most frustrating part!!! She avoided conversations that needed to happen (and she knew needed to happen), set herself up for failure/invited chaos in—whether with her relationships or her life in general, and held her thoughts and emotions in for far too long. And I get it; she's a flawed woman dealing with a lot both at work and at home. I'm perfectly fine with watching an imperfect FL attempt to make her way through life and love, failing more often than not (Another Miss Oh and One Spring Night managed it). But, I swear, it was like she willingly held her own head under water and then had the audacity to be upset when she couldn't breathe.

I'd recommend it if you have the patience for it.

  • Heesu in Class 2

    199. Heesu in Class 2

    Korean Drama - 2025, 10 episodes

    8.0

    Where to begin?

I could tell what they were going for: a mellow yet light-hearted, youthful romance. In many ways, I would say they succeeded. They built up everyone's connections well, rounded characters out with dreams for the future, and embraced the awkwardness and nervousness that comes with being young and having to figure things/yourself out.

I loved Hee Su's loving yet tumultuous relationship with his family. Him being an advisor to others yet clueless about how to help himself out.

The problem was that while Hee Su was the main character and narrator, his romance played a backseat to his best friend's relationship, his family life, and the overall theme of love and friendship being akin to galaxies, stars, and planets.

Maybe, if they had more time, say two episodes, they could have spread things out more evenly. Or, better yet, they could have kept the focus where it should have been in the first place: on Hee Su.

  • Business as Usual

    200. Business as Usual

    Korean Drama - 2025, 6 episodes

    7.5

This was a pretty decent lovers-reunited drama. The beginning made me feel like it had a lot of potential, and as predictable as many of the "reveals" could be, I thought they were understandable for the most part and fit the narrative well. Some conversations between the leads, while painful, were downright beautifully written. And the cinematography and chemistry were certainly not lacking.

However, while I admired the maturity and realism present in the MLs talk during their final reconciliation, the ending itself felt very hastily put together. If they had at least one more episode, maybe they could have made the change of heart more believable and not like something the creators made the character decide because they had to tie everything up in a perfect bow.

    I'm happy yet slightly disappointed.
