Can These Dramas Just Release Already

Zhou Ye again in an 70s-80s show. This time with a very different character than before, yet equally interesting, Heard that some of the good people are making this. Cannot wait to see how she looks here!

These are the kind of stories I live for! And look at who is directing it!

The director and screenwriter isn't mentioned here, but both of the roles are undertaken by the same guy who was behind the genius Ripe Town. 

The plot in itself is something very unique. Psychological thrillers are less from China, but I loved the ones they make. I loved the Korean Strangers from Hell, and the premise has a somewhat similar feel to it, all the while being unique on it's own. I am praying for this one to be an intelligent show that gets 8 above douban score 

Another slice of life drama based on the ancient city of Kashgar! The architecture and cityscape of Kashgar is very different from what we would expect in Eastern China. Lots of dramas being made on this region I see. I hope that most of them receive positive remarks as I want to badly see good dramas set in Xingjian. This one is confirmed by CCTV & IQIYI, so I hope we get the trailers soon.

Edit: The novel this is based on won the Mao Dun Literary prize. This cannot get any better! For everyone's reference, dramas that were based on these novels include THE Ren Shi Jian (A Lifelong Journey), THE Pin Fang De Shi Jian (An Ordinary World), and THE Blossoms Shanghai. I am expecting too high from this now!

The main lead, director and scriptwriter are confirmed! Led by Zhang Ruo Yun, written by THE Wang Jun! Another collaboration for this actor and writer combo, previous ones being Joy of Life and Sword Snow Stride. There is another screenwriter, Jin Hai Shu who wrote the domestically very highly received The Wind Blows from Longxi. 

The director is Wang Jun, who also directed great dramas like The Tale of Rose, A Better Life, A Little Reunion, Ruyi's Royal Love in the Palace, A Love for Separation, The Firmament of the Pleiades & Love Story in Shanghai.

This is a god sent combo! Cannot wait! 

Finally I got my hands on a new Minguo upcoming drama. I have been starved till now, and suddenly we have news of 2 of them, both led by actresses I love and created by trusted production houses or directors. This one is directed by Yang Lei who also directed Three-Body, The Red & The Great Revival. For those who don't know, 3 of these shows are highly rated on douban and 2 of them were major hits.

Also, I have been dying to put words of appreciation for LYT in qipao ever since I saw her photos. She looks fantastic, elegant and classy. A very different style for her. Cannot wait for more pictures to feed my soul.

The 2nd Minguo upcoming new drama. This is created by ZWYG aka Daylight Entertainment, so if the quality of the drama would be excellent or not does not even need to be discussed. 

The FL here is one of my most favourite actress, Zhou Yu Tong. She also looks just mesmerizing in a qipao. Just too good. Otherworldly. I cannot wait to see more pictures of her in a qipao. It seems like god has heard me. I have been praying since very long for a Minguo drama where FL wears qipao and not western influenced clothing. 

Director Yang Yang again. This time it's Liu Shi Shi. Ah, so many classy and amazing actresses she has collaborated with. Her drama's cinematography is really amazing too. And the team that is writing this wrote the S1 of Under The Skin. Hoping for the best.

Liu Ci Xin, the author behind '3 Body' is behind this drama's novel too. And he is the screenwriter for the show as well! And the director can be trusted as he had directed 'Tientsin Mystic' before. 

The plot has my full interest: a situation where the entire surface water of earth, including oceans of course; rose into space to form a ring around the earth. I just want to see this asap.

Another great thriller drama that looks like a horror show, more of a psychological horror actually. The cinematography looks mind blowing.

Looks like Youku will be on a roll with all the horror-ish dramas this and next year as evident from all the trailers released during their conference. Each drama looks so great and highly interesting from the trailers.

This one is from Taiwan. 

This kind of period folk supernatural horror type of dramas getting so popular in China has made me so satisfied as in the past I used to wish a lot for them to make use of the potential they have to make completely unique and cultural horror shows. Now they are everywhere, and so many of them are just so good! These are the kind of shows that only China can make. Japan does cultural folk horror too, but they have a very Japanesey feel to them. These have a very Chinesey feel to them. I love both.

The styling of each female character has won my heart and I cannot wait for this to come out!

Another horror-ish show by China. This one has the screenwriter of Tientsin Mystic writing it PLUS the original novel writer of Tientsin Mystic wrote the novel behind this too. TM was called River God, this is called Fire God. This is very interesting to me. It seems like the stories in this will be related to fire, as in TM they were related to water(river).

Since my childhood, I have this weird love for games related to the 4 elements. It seems like the original novels have followed the same theme too. I wonder if they have novels related to earth and air too?  

Oh and the director is Pan An Zi who also directed Under the Microscope and  Reunion: The Sound of the Providence.

Another adaptation of Wei Yu's novel. She wrote novels behind Rattan, Parallel World and the upcoming Love on the Turquoise Land. One thing to know if you are familiar with her works is that the FLs in her novels are domineering, badass and physically (or magically) strong and superior, wayyy stronger than the MLs. Her MLs are not that strong physically and is often saved by the FL. I extremely love these setups. She is the one who I suspect was the 'inspiration' for Hong Sisters while making Hotel Del Luna.

This adaptation will be no less different in terms of the set-up. I had really liked MZY in the past, but she never got to work in that breakthrough drama she deserved. After Blossom, I am really happy for her to finally be able to make her mark. Next up, this and hopefully The Princess‘s Gambit will further make her more well known and loved. 

MZY's look here is too good as the smart, cold and beautiful FL of the novel and the ML here will be a nice and innocent guy. What can be better than this y'all?

W.T.F?!?!?! A possible second collaboration between Jing Tian & Zhang Bin Bin? And we have Li Mu Ge as director again? And based on Wei Yu's novel again? Rattan 2.0 is here y'all!!!!!!!! I keep seeing Jing Tian in all these new dramas and all I think is that she is very beautiful, but only LMG had the skill to fully showcase this woman's beauty and grace. Some of her shows had good enough makeup, some passable and some were downright offensive to the beauty that this woman is. However, no one has come to the level of LMG in filming her like she deserves. I am so in a visual treat if this is a true rumor. I am dying from happiness rn. Chinese ent. industry never disappoints me! 

Another Yang Zi drama with female centric plot! This time it's set in the Ming Dynasty and she is involved in ink production. I just love these types of Chinese historicals. Glad that they are being made more and more.

Director had co-directed dramas like Arsenal Military Academy, Story of Yanxi Palace & Winter Begonia. I love AMA a lot and I just know that I will love SOYP & WB. This pair of screenwriter had also written respected Zhou Xun's Imperfect Victim. 

The photographs from the production are less, but from what I have seen the costumes look great. I also heard that they are taking the process of producing ink seriously, which I hope is true. Come soon please. 

Edit: just saw the trailer and Cao Dun lives up to expectations. Seems like this will include people from other than Han ethnicity. I am very excited to see this!

Cao Dun directs this and all I know is that this is set in Ming dynasty and is about mystery, historical  and dark elements. Also, I got to know that it is the same team as 'Longest Day in Chang'an'. I cannot wait for this to air man! I love these kinds of historicals and the director is top notch. I already have very high expectations.

Originally, I did not really have any hopes since I didn't understand if they will be able to pull this off or not with FL being a minor, but the trailer pulled me in by it's dark and cold aesthetic and complex looking plot. I hope that this is more plot focused and romance is very minimal, but that is a given since HYTT is 17 and China is very strict about and restricts romance scenes for teen actors.

Directed by Zhao Yi Long, assistant director of Nirvana in Fire and director of Rising with the Wind and Love Game in Eastern Fantasy. 

I love LYT, and this show might have the best styling of LYT. I thought first that her styling inTake Me Where the Clouds Rise is best when it began shooting, but then I saw Fox Spirit Matchmaker: Sword and Beloved's styling and thought that this outdid TMWTCR. Then they threw A Dream within a Dream and left me speechless. But then, LYT wasn't having enough. She just left us breathless with her costumes and makeup in this show. She looks otherworldly here. Next up we also get to see her in elegant and classy qipaos. Being a fan of female actresses is a blessing if you are a Chinese drama fan, because Korea has disappointed me way too much. 

Yet another drama promising a badass female assassin. The time travel from modern times to Song dynasty looks interesting for this kind of plot with her being assassin in modern times transmigrating to body of a woman who is an assassin in training during those times. Hopefully it is well done. I await a good WCR drama. Also GJM aesthetics are love <3 

Set in 90s with hotel being a main character, just like train was for Always on the Move and the canal was for Northwards. Love that more and more dramas are making a particular location setting the major character.

Also, just found out that this is set in Dunhuang, a very unique and beautiful location. I love Chinese dramas so much just because of this! They have a varied landscape and they have recently started to showcase it all in their shows. First Yunnan, then Aletai (Xingjian), then Tibet, now upcoming Kashgar and Dunhuang!

An interesting looking Taiwanese Sci-Fi. Cinematography looks amazing. Looks top notch from the trailer itself. The director of my absolute favourite show 'Mars' is directing this! Another co-director also directed 'The Victim's Game'. Seems like the next top rated on douban Taiwanese drama. 

Zhou Dong Yu in a dual role with opposite personalities? That too with one personality being so mysterious and deadly? I want this and I want this now. The cinematography also looks very good from the trailer released. Can't wait.

Interesting plot.

Based on the novel of Ding Mo & directed by 'Tsai Yueh Hsun ' who also directed my favourite drama 'Mars' & a number of well recieved Taiwanese dramas. Starring 'Jing Tian' & 'Zhang Xin Cheng', my absolute favorite actors. The 2 actors look well styled. ZXC looks awesome & JT looks SOOOO GOOD. I am loving her look here.  

A Sci-fi based on Liu Ci Xin's novel who also wrote the well loved 'Three Body'. The director Pan An Zi seems promising having directed many amazing dramas like 'Under The Microscope' & 'R:TSOP'. I am highly hoping for this drama to serve. 

Season 3 of an top rated drama I can't wait to watch.

Season 2 of TBOY, with almost all of the team returning back. Same director, screenwriter, production team and actors. I already have high expectations from this.

The plot is so rare in dramaland. The only show that I remember being about old people's life is the masterpiece that is 'Dear My Friends' and some other mainstream Chinese dramas that received no international popularity. I hope that this show does justice to its plot. 

It is about siblings, an old man and an old woman both in their 60s. They both rarely communicate, but they reunite with their family in Beijing. Suddenly, their mother(in her 80s) who had been missing some time ago returns. The mother does not mention why she went missing, but the siblings knew why. The siblings now in addition to dealing with their own life problems, will also have to take care of their mother. 

It is fully a story of older people and I know a lot of people would refuse to watch this because of lack of an oppa and romance and beautiful faces (typical international E.Asian drama fans). But this is fully my type of story. I have my hopes high.   

A drama adapted by the work of 'Ma Bo Yong'. The same author whose works are well loved and well adapted into so many dramas like: 'The Longest Day in Chang'an', 'Luoyang', 'The Wind Blows From Longxi', 'Under The Microscope', & the upcoming 'The Litchi Road'. Also, if the director is confirmed to be Ding Hei, he has directed the well loved 'Ordinary Greatness' and can be well trusted. This project was confirmed by IQIYI, as in they have not decided the cast and when it will be shot, but it is sure that this drama will be made. So as always, I have high hopes.

It is based on the work of the novel writer Zi Jin Chen, who wrote the 3 hit mystery thrillers: 'The Long Night', 'The Bad Kids', & 'Burning Ice'. These 3 were brilliantly adapted on screen and scoring top douban ratings. I wish the same fate for this adaptation as well.

I did a little research and this might not release due to portrayal of a negative historic figure in positive light. I'd still be the fool and wait for it. This and 'Night Wanderer' being unable to release has me weeping. If it doesn't release, it will be a waste since this would have bag the first position in terms of best cinematography in a E.Asian drama.
