He is the eldest son of famous kabuki actor Matsumoto Koshiro X (Ichikawa Somegoro VII at the time), his grandfather is Matsumoto Koshiro IX.
In June 2007, he made his debut performance at the Kabukiza Theatre in the play "Kyokaku Harusamegasa".
Along with his father Ichikawa Somegoro VII and grandfather Matsumoto Koshiro IX (at the time), he represented the third generation of the Yago of Koraiya (Koraiya house).
On 3rd June 2009, he adopted the name Matsumoto Kintaro IV and debuted at the Kabukiza Theatre in the production of "Monde Shukuju Renjishi", performing the Lion Dance.
On 2nd January 2018, he changed his stage name to Ichikawa Somegoro VIII and perfomed at the Kabukiza Theatre in the production of "Kotobuki Early Spring Grand Kabuki". He also portrayed the character of Minamoto no Yoshitsune in the play "Kanjincho" on the same day.
In December 2020, he received the National Theatre Encouragement Award for his acting skills in "Yuki no Ishibashi".
In May 2022, reports emerged that Somegoro had dropped out of Aoyama Gakuin High School before starting his third year.
In June 2022, he made his debut as a lead actor in the Kabukiza Theatre's production "Nobuyasu".
He currently performs in kabuki theatre and has also ventured into acting in films and dramas.
