He graduated from the Faculty of Science and Engineering at Waseda University (早稲田大学) in 1946. In 1965, he transitioned to Nikkatsu’s television division.
While his early career at Nikkatsu was limited to assistant director roles, he later moved to television, where he became a main director. His career at Nikkatsu was disrupted when the company shifted focus to Roman Porno.
Uchida’s brother, Uchida Yusaku (内田有作), who was head of Toei's (東映) Ikuta Studio (東映生田スタジオ), invited him to join the staff of the television program Kamen Rider (毎日放送). Uchida resigned from Nikkatsu and became a director at Toei Ikuta Studio.
Uchida's father, Uchida Tomu (内田吐夢), was also a film director, and his younger brother, Uchida Yusaku, was the first head of Toei Ikuta Studio.
In 1982, Uchida was diagnosed with terminal stomach cancer and passed away on July 21, 1983.
