In 2010, she joined YG Entertainment (YG엔터테인먼트) after finishing in first place among 4,000 applicants in a global audition in Thailand. She became YG's first foreign trainee in 2011. The company had planned a 7-member girl group, but after several years of intense competition, the new group was formed with only 4 members.
Prior to her debut, she appeared in the music video for Taeyang's "Ringa Linga" in 2013. She then became a spokesperson for street-wear brand Nona9on in 2015 and cosmetics brand Moonshot in 2016.
She made her debut in August 2016 as BLACKPINK's main dancer, lead rapper, sub-vocalist and maknae with the mini album "Square One".
In September 2021, she made her debut as a solo artist with the single album "Lalisa".
In November 2023, she was invested by King Charles III as an Honorary Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE), alongside her bandmates, during a special ceremony at Buckingham Palace. Then, in December of that year, YG announced that all 4 members renewed their contracts and the company would only handle their group activities.
She also decided to create her own label, Lloud (라우드), to manage her individual activities.
She made her acting debut in 2025 in the HBO television series "The White Lotus".
