In July 2010, he had an inguinal hernia, and when he underwent surgery at a hospital, a detailed examination revealed cancer in his rectum. According to the doctor's explanation, it had already metastasized in the whole body, and as of February 2011, he announced that he had been sentenced to half a year's life expectancy. He refused all surgery and life-prolonging treatment.
After that, on November 10, 2011, nine months after receiving the first life expectancy, Irikawa celebrated his 72nd birthday. According to doctors, his cancer progressed slower than they had originally expected. He died at a hospital in Kanagawa prefecture 10 months after his first life expectancy, on December 24, at the age of 72. Edit Biography
