- Nationality: Hong Konger
- Gender: Female
- Born: May 24, 1980

She attended Pui Kei Primary School (培基小學) and Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Wong Fung Ling College (東華三院黃鳳翎中學) in Hong Kong. At age 13, after completing her first year of secondary school, she moved to Melbourne, Australia with her mother, where she continued her education at Camberwell Girls Grammar School and later graduated from Holmes Institute (霍姆斯學院) at RMIT.
Cheung returned to Hong Kong in 1998 after graduating and began her entertainment career with a commercial for Sunny Lemon Tea arranged by her manager Chu Wing Lung (朱永龍). She made her film debut in the 1999 movie King of Comedy (喜劇之王) and released her first EP Any Weather (任何天氣) the same year.
Cheung’s professional relationship with manager Chu Wing Lung deteriorated after her rise to fame. She sought to terminate their contract, citing harsh conditions, while Chu accused her of false claims and demanded compensation through a lawsuit. The contract initially allowed Chu to take 30% commission of her earnings. The dispute was settled in 2004, though some financial matters remained unresolved.
In 2005, Cheung publicly revealed a relationship with private fund director Jeroen, which ended by the year’s end. In 2006, she secretly married singer Nicholas Tse at the Philippines. They had two sons: Lucas Tse (謝振軒) in 2007 and Quintus Tse (謝振南) in 2010. The couple divorced in August 2011. Cheung announced the birth of her third son in November 2018.
In 2006, Cheung was invited to leave her handprint on the Hong Kong Avenue of Stars (香港星光大道), becoming the youngest actress to receive this honor at the time. She then took a temporary break from acting following her marriage.
In 2011, she signed an eight-year contract with New Asia Entertainment Group (新亞洲娛樂集團), where she established Cheung Pak Chi Studio (張柏芝工作室) to engage in music production and film investment.
Her music career included contracts with Universal Music (環球唱片) from 1999 to 2006 and New Asia Entertainment (新亞洲娛樂) from 2011 onward. Her management was handled by Star Entertainment China (中國星娛樂) between 2000 and 2006, then by New Asia Entertainment from 2011.
Cheung’s father, Zhang Ren Yong (張仁勇), was a former triad leader of the Luen Ying Society (三合會聯英社), and her mother has British ancestry.
