He graduated from the Tokyo Music School's pre-war Teacher Training Course and worked as a music teacher at Osaka Municipal Namba Elementary School and Gunma Normal School from 1923 to 1929. Otomo then pursued a career as a singer and actor, performing at venues such as Casino Follies, Moulin Rouge Shinjuku, and with the Kenichi Enomoto Troupe.
He made his film debut in 1935 with "Otomegokoro San-nin Shimai" and was a member of the Toho Mobile Cultural Troupe during World War II, participating in regional tours and activities. After the war, Otomo worked primarily as a supporting actor in films produced by Toho and Shintoho until Shintoho's bankruptcy in 1961. He later transitioned to television dramas, continuing his acting career until 1973.
