In 1951, Kao began his acting career by joining the Army Entertainment Troupe. He performed in military instructional films and regularly appeared in television programs produced by the Ministry of National Defense. He was also a member of the drama troupes for the Army Armored Command and the Army General Command's Lu-Kuang troupe. Later, he worked as a makeup artist at the Central Motion Picture Corporation and taught makeup and character styling for five years at the film department of World Journalism College.
Kao held several leadership roles in the actors' union, including supervisor, secretary general, and chief secretary. He also participated in military morale-boosting efforts and charity activities. His son, Kao Pei Chun, followed in his footsteps as an actor but has since retired from the entertainment industry.
Kao passed away in his sleep on July 5, 2021, at the age of 92, as confirmed by Da Ai TV on July 12, 2021.
