He graduated from the Yamagata Prefectural Yamagata Middle School. He was affiliated with the Tokyo Actor's Cooperative.
After graduating from middle school, he moved to Tokyo in 1930. In 1931, he enrolled as a second-year student at the Japan Actor School, a four-year institution. Subsequently, he attended the Japan Opera Society's Acting Research Institute. In 1944, he joined the Army's traveling theater troupe, touring the front lines in Manchuria and both North and Central China to perform for the troops.
After the war, he was associated with several theater companies, including the Toho Theater Company, Gekidan Tokyo, the Second Soganoya Goro Theater Company, and the Gekidan Togei (in which he also participated in its founding).
He passed away on December 23, 1999, at the age of 87.
