He completed his education at Jinhae Middle School (진해중학교), Jinhae High School (진해고등학교), and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Acting from the Korea National University of Arts (한국예술종합학교).
Initially interested in sports like Taekwondo and Jeet Kune Do, Jin aspired to become a physical education teacher. However, he shifted his focus to acting in his senior year of high school, leading him to pursue a degree in acting. He made his acting debut in 2004 with the theater production Mirror Princess, the Story of Pyeonggang (거울공주 평강이야기). He later expanded his career to include drama and film, making his television debut in the MBC drama Road Number One (로드 넘버 원) in 2010.
Jin was also a member of the theater company Performance Delivery Service Ganda (공연배달서비스 간다) and served in the Police Agency Combat Police Squad during his military enlistment.
Jin married actress Park Bo Kyung (박보경) on October 10, 2010. They have a daughter, Jin Sol (진솔), born in 2013, and a son, Jin Gyeok (진격), born on April 20, 2016.
