Collin Chou is a Taiwanese actor, born in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, into a military-dependent family with 13 siblings. He is a Taiwanese waishengren, meaning he is descended from mainland Chinese who relocated to Taiwan after 1949. His father passed away when Chou was five, prompting him to begin working at an early age to support his family. Around the same time, he began training in martial arts, including Taekwondo and Muay Thai, and entered the film industry at 12 as a stunt double in martial arts films.

After completing military service in Taiwan, Chou moved to Hong Kong to advance his career and joined Sammo Hung’s action team, Hung Ga Ban, becoming Hung's apprentice. He later moved to the U.S. in 1999 to further his studies.

In 2017, Chou was involved in a public controversy when a woman claiming to be his mistress shared details of their relationship on Weibo. In response, Chou issued a public apology to his wife, following initial denials from his management.
