He and his younger brother, Billy Chan, were born in Hong Kong opera troupes. In their early years, both brothers participated in many Bruce Lee movies. Later, he joined the Hung Family Class. Although he was overweight, he was agile as a troupe member. He and Sammo Hung were known as the "two fat men of Hung Family Class".
After the release of the documentary film "Dragon: After 1973" (龙·一九七三以后) in 2004, he faded out of the entertainment industry. The media reported on 10 October 2021 that he had passed away at the age of 79.
