You guys realize the show makers classified this as a romantic comedy with an audience 15+ on viki. It shows in…
After reading you view on the show I'm a little curious about your view on this: I enjoy the Muren and Licheng storyline (even though it is a little cliché) but I'm not interested in the brother one, simply because of the theme (them growing up together) as brothers and then falling in love as that simply makes me uncomfortable. But other than that, with the other couple, I'm enjoying it.
Now, do you have to be ok with what you brought up, like stalking, sexual harassment etc, just because you might enjoy the watch?
Does all media have to be perfect with sunshine and rainbows and nothing like this for you to view them as good/worthy? Not to diss your view, I just want to understand your point of view, and wouldn’t it be rainbows and sunshine without any of the themes you mentioned? And, is that what you want?
I guess maybe us who enjoy (whether that be both couples or one) and those who do not (like you), are simply just looking at the themes you mentioned differently? Like for example, in the bath scene with Muren and Licheng where Licheng caressed/touch Murens back, I don't see that as sexual harassment (even though Muren does (which is obviously valid)). In this scene Muren tells Licheng off, says he basically doesn't like it, and Licheng stops. I would consider it sexual harassment if he didn't stop.
Then I'm also curious how you view this: Since I don't watch the brother storyline I can't really talk about that, but the Muren/Licheng relationship regarding the attempted rape: The scenes there the boss tries to rape Muren for example, now, I would never ever in real life be ok with that. If Muren was a real person and he experienced that I would be furious on his behalf and help him persecute the boss. Meaning I am NOT ok with this in real like.
Now, am I ok with it in fiction? To an extent. For three reasons: 1) because it is obviously fake. Muren is not a real person. The actor is not actually getting raped. 2) it invokes feelings in the viewer regarding the involved characters, meaning you sympathies, feel bad, get sad or angry on characters behalf and/or at different characters. 3) the role the scenes might play in furthering the story.
I feel bad for Muren after watching that scene and I definitely don't like the boss, but I can see how this scene has importance for the relationship between Muren and Licheng, and its place in the story. Licheng is seen analyzing the way the boss act with Muren up to this point and he is very concerned, even after he lets Muren know about this this concern, he still can’t let it go. How Licheng runs back in even though he is upset with Muren, then is seen looking for him and then saving him, again shows the beginning of the change in his relationship with/feelings for Muren. Or at the very least, his perception/view of Muren.
Now I know some people don’t like the bath scene with Muren apparently masturbating and Licheng watching (I personally skipped through Licheng’s dream sequence of it, cringe for me). I I don’t think I would do what Licheng did in this situation (not meaning the dream but the idea of just staying with the drugged person). I'd probably call an ambulance or at the very least bring him home, but I don’t see it as sexual harassment to look out for his friend, we didn’t get to see how this played out and I might have changed my mind if we did and Licheng were acting weird. But the way they talk about it made it seem innocent to me (albeit embarrassing for them), like Licheng was simply there to keep an eye on Muren (making sure Muren didn’t down or something). It is also, again, shown as something they struggle with afterwards, it is making them a bit awkward and it’s changing their relationship and how they behave around each other, again furthering the storyline.
Now again, some things I would not be ok with if they were real people, but they are character and when I say I'm "ok" with it because they are characters I mean that I can watch it/see the point of the horrible act, feel bad for the victim and dislike the perpetrator. I think that creating this feeling within the viewer for the characters involved in a scene like the almost rape of Muren, matters a great deal too. But I see the scenes like this like as a part of a storyline, a way to further the story. Now I guess there can be times where series use these types of themes just because, I don't know, but most of the times I would say scenes like these are there for a reason.
Just because you like the series as a whole or enjoy it doesn't mean you are ok/enjoy/or like rape/sexual harassment etc (I know you didn’t say that). It's just part of this character's journey and honestly if there were no sexual harassment (no matter how we personally look at it), rape etc then wouldn't that be boring in the long run? No horrible real-life thing can happen to any characters? Can it happen to straight characters but not gay ones? Where do we draw the line?
Anyway, this became quite long, and I don't want to irritate or make you angry, I'm just genuinely curious on how you think about this and what you think about my thoughts above.
well since no one likes to admit or talk about it I will. Why can't we EVER have a NON-TOXIC BL that does not…
Now I don't know is these HIStory series are strikt BL or not but if they are, instead of actual "normal" gay media, they are probably produced for straight women. That is the target audience for BL series and i believe yaoi manga as well. More straight women read and watch than gay men, I don't know why but it is what it is, and I believe that has an impact on the content.
Then we have to acknowledge that sometimes awful depictions and scenes are there to further the story.
Then we also need to take in to account the different culture. Now I'm not to familiar with Taiwan and their view on this but for example in Thailand they have two words for rape, one that means actual rape and the other meaning basically "I want to do this but I say no because otherwise I'm not giving you a good impression of me"... basically. Its very interesting actually and it made me understand why it's so common, both in straight as well as gay relationships in thai media (this I guess, might not be present here but in a lot of other asian BLs, I thought it was worth to mention since you seem to think about more than just this series). I can't find the original (really good) article I read talking about this but this one is mentioning some similar themes if you are interested: http://thairants.blogspot.com/2015/01/plom.html
And lastly, while I can tell that you are upset about the characterisation of these gay characters you do like some of them right? Or certain parts of them? I think it's valid to depict bad gay people along with good gay ones, just like with bad/good straight ones. It doesn't say anything about you specifically as a gay person that a gay (or ambiguous) character does bad things.
Gosh... episode 6... the thing that irritates me is if it weren’t for his background and complex about the high…
i was looking for someone that see this series like me, a little meh. I enjoyed Where Your Eyes Linger and Mr. Heart so I thought I'd love this one... I think the concept is cool but the execution is boring to me.
So I stopped watching after the 3rd or 4th episode because I just couldn't with the cringe. The format is weird but I could handle it if I didn't cringe every other minute or so. Interesting now that more episodes have come out and people are dropping it like flies because of the storyline.

Hi! I don't think it should be blocked in France. I'm in Europe too and it works for me. I tried the link in safari (which I normally use), firefox and chrome and it works fine for me.
Do you wait a while? Like maybe it needs some time to load. If not, do you get any pop-up? If nothing works perhaps download firefox (another free web browser) and try that one. Strange it doesn't work for you :'/

Sure but it's still better to watch the official that has been translated into English for us than translating it to another language and uploading it to yt/ dailymotion or whathaveyou. That does not support the creators.
If we show them our support they can continue to give us great content.

I'm actually kind of glad they don't have any romance, I'm tired of those so I would probably have dropped it if there were any, I prefer bromance XD
He's half thai and half american.
