Title The Last Immortal Spoiler
Four episodes in, but it took some effort to get through the first two episodes, which felt strangely slow. I…
I think the Gu Jin’s character is refreshing for the xianxia genre. Usually the male lead wants to be powerful but Gu Jin almost seems to scared of ascending- despite being born with a great destiny. He’s the future true god so he’s supposed to be absurdly lucky. I think way his character will develop won’t be through his strength but rather through his mentality. Exploring why he acts that way and what will be his catalyst to change/mature. Which I usually find more rewarding to watch than simply a male lead that wants to be physically stronger.

I think in his current state the dynamic between the leads is more balanced. Gu Jin proudly admits he’s weak and the leads bicker all the time. I like that A Yin isn’t afraid of offending Gu Jin at all. Unlike in LBFAD, LLTG, TTEOTM, etc where the FL is constantly walking on eggshells because of the ML’s scary reputation and cold personality. A-Yin here is making up 123 rules so he can accommodate to her 😭

One aspect I enjoy about Gu Jin is that he has gentle (?) forgiving nature. He’s friendly and genuinely seems to care about the people he loves. I don’t think Dongfang Qingcang would’ve been able handle A-Yin’s mischievous antics like Gu Jin did. Like the dude almost turned into soup and he got over it pretty quickly.

Title The Last Immortal Spoiler
The dynamic between the leads is so fun. I don’t really watch xianxia but the ones I’ve watched all have a cold grumpy male lead whereas Gu Jin is sorta the opposite of that archetype. He’s kind of a loser. Which makes for a hilarious chemistry between leads, their bickering is adorable. I love how they’re besties at first, instead of one person falling madly in love with the other for a random reason. Also the female lead saving the male lead in the first episode is a pleasant surprise, it’s usually the other way around.

isnt it gonna be on youku too? it's an incredible feat to have all the big 4 platforms broadcasting a drama
Ahh the title mentions it’s only a retelling of TLI plot. Why the heck is it on Youku in the first place and why are they forcing us to pay for VIP to watch the rest???? 💀

But wait...Why does Chinese people wait for few days to reserve dramas like Girl! reservations are meant for dramas…
maybe reservations increase the heat index, so waiting until the last minute to reserve all at once is a strategy to inflate the heat index?

ZLS is the WeTV ambassador, specifically the international side of Tencent video. When you go in the WeTV app her face is all over it. She recently attended the WeTV Thailand conference, where she was proven to be extremely popular. Sword and fairy doesn't have a distribution licence and YSX hasn't started dubbing. So they cannot broadcast it. Whereas the preparation for TLI's release was done months ago. The reason why I'm saying they're trying to improve international reach is because it was first announced by WeTV that TLI was airing soon, and they surprisingly only announced it domestically a few days later.

isn't this a super fast release? a little more than half a year after the filming ended is very fast for a xianxia…
MJTY is wuxia whereas TLI is xianxia. Xianxia should rely more on it's fantasy CGI elements to communicate the story. ZLS herself said the post production effort is huge and there's many people working on it. I think innovations with AI have helped the efficency of the process. Coupled with Tencent's goal to expand their international influence with Wetv by the end of the year. These factors are likely why this the fastest S tier Xianxia release ever.

The latest news on Weibo states it will be airing Dec 4 @ 18:00 GMT China time so like Dec 4 @ 13:00 for EST?
I think that's just the date for the announcement post that it's going to be broadcasted on tencent and mango. so it's like a rumour for a post... it's strange

they most likely don't care abt quality... or else they would have at least waited until next year but their probably rushing because it's the end of the financial year
