First Dorama of 2025 and I loved it! I'd initially planned to watch Brush Up Life as my first Jdrama of this year…
Another thing that I really liked in this drama is that while it's supposed to be a revenge plot, the story goes much more beyond than that...and I believe that's something Jdramas in general do so well — Jdramas are good at social commentary without being preachy and I loved those aspects of the show here too. Even as someone who's not fond of revenge based plots, I liked how the plot was written and executed, especially the lighter moments of banter shared between the characters which I believe added much more depth to the story.
First Dorama of 2025 and I loved it! I'd initially planned to watch Brush Up Life as my first Jdrama of this year but somehow the Netflix page for this version of Kurosagi pulled me in and I started watching it on a whim (I got to know much later that there's a previous version which is also on Netflix)...but I'm glad I did! Loved the characters for how nuanced they were, and the plot was also fast paced and interesting to follow. I was satisfied with the ending and yet liked how they kept it open for a future season. Highly recommend for fans of the crime/thriller/suspense genre. Though I finished it in a week it's actually quite binge-worthy and can even be watched in a go! I'm also interested to read the manga to see how the story progresses there 🐈⬛
loved this movie...it was so sweet and endearing! Both Fumiya Takahashi & Hiyori Sakurada san did an amazing job! The supporting characters were also so lovable 🫶🏼 A very nice, feel-good movie 💕🎈
Finally got around to watching the movie today and loved it! More than anything, it brought back memories from 2022 when I'd watched the drama and fallen in love with Totonou Kunou's character — it was so fun watching him going on his rambles and changing people's lives for the better in this movie again! I would say the mystery felt a little confusing with some many twists going on, but surprisingly the perpetrators turned out to be someone I was suspicious of since the first half of the movie. For me, the strong point of this movie was its characters, and I loved seeing some of my favourite actors (whom I've watched and admired in their other works) playing the supporting role here. Especially Keita Machida, whom I'd loved as Kurosawa in Cherry Magic. Riku Hagiwara, Ko Shibasaki, Hara Nanoka were also great in their roles. I'd definitely recommend it to all the Don't Call It Mystery drama fans. The drama had opened the door to the world of jdramas for me, making this movie all the more special. It was also a delight to see the characters from the drama in the last few minutes of the movie, especially Garo Kun :D Highly anticipating a second season to the series! 🥹
Watched this today. What a heart-wrenching story...halfway through the movie I got a feeling that they would probably not find Miu chan and yet I wished they did...there were multiple times during the movie when I myself broke down... especially when watching Ishihara Satomi's character having a breakdown. Honestly, brilliant acting on the part of Ishihara Satomi san. The other actors too did very well. The acting felt very realistic. Thank you Netflix for making the movie available worldwide.
What a wonderful drama! I always love how Japanese dramas put in work into building the character's environment…
Couldn't agree more! Watching jdramas can be a very good resource for educating ourselves about the Japanese culture, and this drama proved that all the more! Loved the OST too❤️
Probably one of my favourite movies og all time and definitely my favourite of this year. LOVED THIS. Not to mention I cried rivers in the last half an hour of the movie ❤️❤️❤️
Finished this drama today — loved it so much!! The ending with all the reunions was so cute...and the public hug — they really did come a long way from their stiff hugs back in ep 5. Loved it, definitely recommend!!❤️❤️
Started watching this drama as part of my Hoshino Gen binge – I was delighted when I learnt about it being available on NHK world for streaming – and really liked it. I felt that this show's real strength was its characters, especially Maki-kun, and Kamio Fuji did a wonderful job there (I'd watched him before in 3-nen A Gumi, and had liked his acting there as well). I did feel that the plot could have developed in a better way, maybe if there were more episodes, but I enjoyed how the concept of Utopi-AI played out on screen. Overall, recommending it anyone who's keen on watching sci-fi oriented doramas – it's a short watch, and quite enjoyable :)
I'm so glad I decided to give it a shot after watching MIU404 when I realised that Ayano Go and Hoshino Gen have starred together in this drama as well. Their dynamic is so beautiful in this one as well – it seems as if they know each other so well – for e.g. Kounotori Sensei referring to Shinomiya Sensei's “hard to understand kindness” since the latter does come off as pretty harsh in the first few episodes but only has the best of his patients in his heart and how Shinomiya showed his most vulnerable side to Kounotori sensei & also (indirectly) praised his piano skills to Shimoya sensei. The camaraderie between all the characters is so amazing – they all fully support each other and try to be there for each other as well for the patients – it's so very heartwarming ❤️❤️❤️❤️
