i knew this drama would be good ever since i heard of it last year, but i'm really getting my expectations blown out of the water now that it's airing.
having read the novel as well, i can say that everyone is casted PERFECTLY, especially our main four, and the drama is even expanding much more on plot points that were glossed over in the novel (such as liu wei's disappearance! it was never fully clarified or answered!) and adding characters and relationship dynamics of their own that didn't previously exist, but work fantastically.
and apart from the pretty solid writing, the cinematography is also EXCELLENT, like wow my eyes are being blessed every time i press play?? every frame is so deliberate and well thought out and i love that you can see who's "dominant" or is the "key character" in the scene based on their assigned colours! and the way ceramics/pottery/zongyans (blemish flaws) are a key theme and metaphor throughout in a way that makes sense and isn't forced just for the "aesthetics" is so brilliantly done. every single character has a blemish flaw (or several...) and i love that everything's being revealed to us bit by bit. even as a novel reader, i'm being surprised every day.
all in all, if you're considering watching this, PLEASE do! i can't recommend this drama enough! it has me staying up until 5 AM for new episodes AND paying for the express package, which i haven't done since 雁回时 (the glory) and 书卷一梦 (a dream within a dream). ADWAD is my historical drama (and overall favourite) of the year, no contest, but blemish flaw is certainly my favourite modern drama of the year (and of all time now), also no contest. what else can i say? this drama is peak all around.
I am not able to find subtitles. link directs to gdrive which does not have subtitle files nor embedded video…
when you click on an episode to watch, make sure to click the button that says CC! the subs are all there, they haven’t been removed. i’m also in the process of re-proofreading the episode subs again, so i have not uploaded the .srt files, but once i’m done they’ll be in the folder as well.
okay if you know me from twt, you know that i've been nonstop trying to promo this show since last year and i'm singlehandedly trying to bring this fandom to life, so if you don't have mgtv and need better subs, here's the modified subs i put together: https://x.com/zhaoyaos/status/1826743258040652284
please give this drama a chance, i love zhou yue and gu yi with all my heart <3
they did! i mentioned it haha there's going to be many different plots from the novel, but in its essence its the same base story so i'm happy with it! :)
anyway, huxin is such a fantastic adaptation already!! as an og novel reader i could not be more happy about the drama, it’s practically word for word right now and even though it will be veering off into different plots soon, i don’t mind it at all! that’s how adaptations work— they cannot be 100% the same, and there will always be changes. the important part is that the core of the story and our main characters remain true to themselves and they’re doing so well with that here. other things i’m really loving is the casting, cinematography, the sets, the costuming, the comedy, the emotions, EVERYTHING!! as expected of a jiu lu fei xiang work!! 🫶🫶🫶
please don’t go into huxin by comparing it to other dramas!! they tell different stories in different ways, have different casts and crews, and are good in their own ways!! as a watcher of both tteotm and huxin (that i have caught up on watching for both), i can firmly say that they are not the same and it should not be said that one is better or worse!!!!! please just support the shows you want to support and keep negative thoughts on the down low 💕
nearly broke my eardrums replaying this over and over trying to catch the lines covered by the loud background music and sound effects... anyway, i still missed some, but i did my best! here's the viki trailer subbed! https://twitter.com/zhaoyaos/status/1655073485088063489?s=20
