Itt's and Day's relationship seems so awful..on the surface, just romanticed codependency and the only way they can demonstrate and test their love is through unbridled jealousy. Most of the characters are horrible people that just should not exist except in BL and dramas, the only saving grace is they're all trying to be better in their own little ways. All the background information that is revealed about the history of the characters and the main couple is sickening and a little depressing that they end up falling in love from such a history. On the surface , but then you dig deeper into the story towards the end and start to understand their codependency. Surprisingly this tragic combination of storytelling, writing, dialogue and silliness makes for a hilarious watch. Just don't take it too seriously , remember it's fiction and you'll have a good time.
Why are reviews always so bad on this website. I'm starting to believe it's the same people writing the reviews for every drama and they are just impossible to please
if you went by reviews on here you would miss some great hidden gems. This is very much nostalgic of the classic BLs but in mostly the good ways. The storytelling and writing isn't really all that special but it compensates with the chemistry and cuteness of the characters especially Nhai, he's so ditzy (I genuinely don't know how he's survived this long on the planet) but adorable and funny perhaps the only person that can put up with him is Ai which makes for a fun dynamic. Their interactions are really beautiful to watch as well as that of Ai's fathers, i love the unique take on queer fatherhood. The other side characters however i'm not really sure what they add and mostly seem like filler in terms of their interactions. I probably wouldn't rewatch but it makes for a very chill and fun one time watch
The acting is so great, I'm loving the chemistry and the slow build romance but with intense flirtatiousness. the story is a cool interesting one and i love seeing complex characters with shades of gray being explored.
Minato hasn't really changed much since season 1 and confessing to Shin at the end of the season which is really frustrating to watch BUT I think the frustration comes from the lack of communication from Minato and the shows format of style which doesn't really address any of the issues at all even in season 1. As audience we're left just guessing what exactly is going on with these characters because they do not communicate their feelings to one another or to the audience.
Minato's restraint and reservation towards Shin is completely understandable when you think about the context of homophobia in society that makes it difficult for you to accept and embrace your feelings, the age gap between them , someone who is much younger in a hierarchical society who fell in love with you under extreme circumstances (you saved his life as a boy). And just being completely insecure and overwhelmed by someone's feelings for you (Shin is full on and so sure of his feelings but to minato he's still just a kid even a year later) I would be apprehensive and scared about crossing the physical boundary too.
But what should be communicated in one or a couple episodes and resolved is being dragged out for an entire season again. It's clear we're dealing with emotionally immature adults here who have various issues with commitment, expressing their feelings and being confident in them but again because of the format of the show that wants to keep things light and cute none of these issues really ever get addressed.
LOL love the comments, lacks depth of perception.Breaking things down:1. Minato is conservative, traditional guy…
The age gap between them is definitely an issue for Minato. Its also very clear he's never been in a relationship with a man and unlike Shin is finding it hard to dive into the physical aspect of the relationship and cross that boundary yet. Even if he's accepted his feelings for Shin, he still can't get over the age difference in his head
That was cut hella short! It's a huge plot point in the manhwa. They cut out so much of it and tbh it didn't make…
That wasn't the point at all, the point was that he doesn't know how to feel about the relationship which is justified. It's not immature to question how you've managed to get involved with the ex of the person you were in love with and have only just managed to get over infact it's very sensible and mature to take a moment to figure out if it's something still worth pursuing at that point (have they both really let go of that past relationship) plus the whole conflict lasted all of one conversation it really wasn't that bad. It's also quiet realistic in the queer community which can be really small and can get messy
You basically just described pretty much most of all BLs , that's even like the definition of the genre. It's…
You're right and I get what you're saying. I probably haven't seen yaoi enough to understand what the terms mean and what it fully means to you. I apologize if anything I said was dismissive of your feelings. And you're absolutely right BL is different from yaoi , and perhaps I've only watched so many of the really good BLs that make me put up with the bad ones as well.
You basically just described pretty much most of all BLs , that's even like the definition of the genre. It's…
You don't hate yaoi because it depicts gay sexual content , of course not because you're not homophobic you hate it because it is written by women for women. That was your own definition of yaoi. It consists of stereotypes they've made up about gay men. You think it's weird that women are obsessed with gay men and enforce gender roles on them. A lot of women who read them are homophobic. All true. But that's not all these stories are, sure call out the ones that are and leave the bad reviews but you seem to paint everyone that watches them with the same brush and want to gatekeep who writes these stories and who enjoys them. My first comment was just stating facts and you very quickly jumped into assumptions about what kind of person I am and my sexual identity when one thing shouldn't have anything to do the with other.
A fujoshi girl who is obsessed with yaoi asking you who is the man or the woman in your relationship has nothing to do with yaoi itself, I've known people who have never seen yaoi and they have asked me that question so many times. These ideas exist in society already so of course they'll find their way into fiction. Also not only straight girls read them, gay men, lesbian women read them too it appeals in different ways.
Literally I haven't seen one single person condone the abuse, violence and obsession depicted in addicted heroine. That is weird and not normal! But the story itself is cute and appealing , and could have done without all of that nonsense. Unless you're a 12 year old who thinks this is how all gay relationships are, you can discern fiction from reality. If you can't and this is the only reason you like the series it's because you already hold these ideas yourself in which case reconsider your life lol
The representation is bad because of who is writing it no one is saying it's good or it can't be better. I want better representation too and I really look for BL stories that depict positive gay relationships. This was released in 2016 so it's good to see how BLs have progressed since then and are giving less and less toxicity. But I won't be shaming people for what they like which is mainly just stories that depict BL or sexual/ romantic gay content. I think what people find most appealing are the emotional scenes, balanced power dynamics and just that it's written by women.
I think we agree that yaoi is not the problem, its the ideas and stereotypes often depicted in them
The ML is really quite crazy and I kept expecting him to turn increasingly violent and psychotic by the end. I honestly thought this was going to end badly with either one or both of them dead. Definitely not a healthy relationship but the thing is both leads are as bad as each other so it's probably the best that they end up together.
Otherwise I really enjoyed the acting of all of the them. And there's a certain uninhibition that I didn't realised could exist in a Chinese BL because all the other ones I've seen have been coded due to censorship
You basically just described pretty much most of all BLs , that's even like the definition of the genre. It's…
Okay that's where I completely disagree with you. If you think yaoi shouldn't exist then all sexually explicit content regardless of orientation should not exist and that's fine if that's your viewpoint but at least we know where you stand. Cis het women should not be shamed for enjoying what is basically gay porn when cishet men have enjoyed lesbian porn since the beginning of time and no one shames them for it. I also don't think the appeal is about fetishizing gay men (it's impossible because it can never translate into real life it remains within the imagination. A straight woman can never be sexual with a gay man and I don't think they watch it because they want to), I think it's about what is lacking in straight sexually explicit content that's mainly geared towards cis het men but that's a whole other conversation.
I come from a country where something like yaoi or even BL is outrageous to even talk about let alone exist. So for you to say it shouldn't exist , for all it's good and bad is just privilege tbh. So what if straight women are obsessed with BL, they're seeing stories being told that are different from what they've been used to. I watch them too , clearly so do you and there are some that I can barely stomach and would naturally skip but that is the case in any genre people shouldn't be shamed for what they enjoy when they're clearly not harming anyone that is just shitty. I don't know why there is just as much abuse and violence in these stories as there are sweet and tender moments but I'm aware this is a fact of the genre even though this is changing more and more these days. What I don't understand is other than it making you uncomfortable how is it harming gay peopel? Personally when I want queer content that addresses queerness in a realistic way I can go look for stories written by queer people I don't go to a cishet woman to show me that.
You say they are obsessed with top and bottom, I don't like it either but I don't see many gay men in these comments talking about how uncomfortable it makes them because sadly that's how it is in reality too. Everyone gay or straight is obsessed with heteronomativity there are terms like top, bottom, switch etc for a reason deal with it but a 30 mins per episode fluff to escape reality is not that serious, I take what I can and avoid what I can't take.
I have no issue with you leaving a bad review on something you watched and didn't like but gatekeeping, acting that you're better than everyone else who watched it and enjoyed it for whatever reason even ignorance. And to judge anyone's morals or queerness based on that, telling me I should know better is just out of line.
You basically just described pretty much most of all BLs , that's even like the definition of the genre. It's…
Also what's with the hating on yaoi. Most BLs are based off of yaoi manga or novels including this one π If you really hate this kind of genre or material, you're in the entirely wrong place lol
